Well there goes my patience with this release after I read on another forum people claiming she's cashing in on Rene's death by releasing this.... :wacko: I had to explain to them she's been doing this song since 2008!

 

lol i dont think celine needs any more cash or fame she has both

Like others have said, just take this recording of The Show Must Go On as an extra, unexpected gift. Could it have been better? Yes. But it still sounds nice and when she gets raspy/screechy in the recording -- I'm sure it's justified by her team as "raw emotion" considering her recent circumstances.

 

Question: Did we ever discover if this was just recorded in the studio or not? Is this why David Foster was in Vegas? (I can't imagine he'd be too happy with this final product, though. :giggle: He always made sure Celine's voice was silky smooth Diva perfection.)

 

The song is getting some views on VEVO, it has positive comments on her social media/VEVO/iTunes reviews, etc.

 

I kind of wish they just released a Live performance of the song from Vegas. But it's not a big deal.

 

Can't wait for the performance on Sunday! She will look stellar and it will be a fantastic performance! People are expecting her to be emotional so we don't have to worry about her sounding "perfect". Just relax and enjoy the moment! Our Celine is being crowned an ICON in front of A TON of younger, "relevant" artists and all of their fans. This will introduce Celine to tons of new fans and also remind people who used to love Celine to keep on loving Celine! :)

 

So much to look forward to! Can't wait to hear the new French single!!!!!! :-D

I'm not being a Negative Nancy but what award she get from Prince Albert at the WMAs where she mimed TC? It was another Icon type award wasn't it? I am so scared she'll mime.

Of course she is having positive reviews, any bad vocal performance from Celine is better than any other current artist

Yes you guys!! It's superb. I don't even mind the screech. I think it's even slightly deliberate. I love that it's warming on you. Turn it up loud. All I can say is, I'm thrilled she's back so soon after the family tragedy and still here after all these years. #billboard #IconAward #CélineEncore #EncoreUnSoir

The more I listen to it, the more I really wonder if this vocal was from the Taking Chances era, right towards the end of her tour. Remember all the auto-tuned playbacks she did for the DVD (TPOL, TLYM, IDAN)? Her voice sounds nasal and clogged up like it did towards the end of that tour. I remember this song playing during the credits of her documentary, and it sounded like a studio version, but I never stayed to listen to the whole thing. Maybe they had Lindsay do a new violin track to the old vocal performance. Her voice was kind of dry back then as well (the high note during TLYM and parts in ABM). I'll get over it, I love this song and I love the way she sings it, but I will not forget that screech. It's the worst note she's ever recorded by a million miles, and possibly the worst note I can even recall hearing from any artist. It's just so out of place in the song. I hope we'll get some better vocals on the French album. We'll see!

The move of releasing a single is unexpected and good in a sense.

 

But, I would have expected so much more for a recorded studio version of a song of the great Queen! Her voice has no clarity and is tired. The potato is back in her mouth for the whole song (that's Vegas' doing). Her raspiness is uncontrolled and so auto-tuned.

It's like she went to the studio with her voice in bad shape, recorded it in one time and then it was done. It's like she didn't care.

 

But ok, people are not going to be harsh on her because she lost René recently and it's a good choice for a song. It just could have been frigging perfect. She's already sung the song so much better live.

There's too many overlapping vocals in the studio version for her to mime. This performance has got to be spot on. When she sang Hymne a l'amour at the AMAs people were talking about it for days. It was probably the single greatest performance she ever gave and cemented her as a true icon. She needs this to be spot on for all the haters to finally agree what we've all known since day one.

Yeah I have warmed up to the song now but yes, the screech still slaps me in the face, not as hard now but still cringing. :fish: :mf_hide:

Well, my theory is out the window about it being an older vocal, I just saw the 5/17/16 performance and she does the screech now. What in the crap did she start doing that for? It sounds a little more placed in the live version, and a little less like a bird getting run over, but I still can't believe they put that in the studio version.
