Ever heard of symbolism? ? Have you ever said you were dying? I'm assuming you didn't.

 

Everyone sees songs differently. I guess it could be symbolic about a broken relationship, but, to me, it makes much more sense as being about someone who is sick and literally dying, especially when combined with lyrics like, "And u wrote every day/Writing 'bout the things/That we could do/When your pain went away."

And those lyrics you highlighted to me show that he was making empty promises in a sort of secret relationship until he ended his current relationship.

Most people here want Celine to sing only her songs in LV, even hidden gems of her previous albums. Understandable. But most people who go and see Celine at Las Vegas are not Celine fans. Purple Rain (which is awesome by the way) is a better choice than With This Tear for that matter.

And I've always found WTT boring actually. I reckon the vocal prowess, but it's so predictable, so 'too much'.

Only during the concert Celine can present her unknown songs. If someone likes Prince, let him listen to his albums/or if he lives go to his concerts.

Given the upcoming tour of Europe and Canada i highly doubt there will be any changes to the show in May; especially for only 11 shows.

 

I do think she'll replace "Are you watching me now" back for I surrender, and that will be it.

 

Unless they decide to add another French song to give the band more of a chance to perform them live since for many of them (Scott, Kaven, etc.) are new and haven't played her old French catalogue...

Why are we still discussing getting rid of the prince medley?? It's freaking awesome!! A massive highlight to the show! A showstopper!!!

 

I could understand if it was terrible.... Like um incredible.... Not that I dislike that song but we all know it doesn't work the way it is..

 

Just a little confused why so many of you want to change this part of the show that works so well

Once again, people who go to see Celine at Las Vegas are not die-hard Celine fans. Most of the time, they go there because they're in Vegas and Celine is one of the greatest performer giving a show there. It's more a side thing because they're already in Vegas. They've probably never heard about With This Tear. For that matter, songs like Purple Rain, Rolling In The Deep, The Show Must Go On make much more sense than any hidden gems in Celine's discography.

 

And yeah, I don't understand why people want to take off Purple Rain. It's one of the highlights of the show to me. I was never fan of Prince's version and Celine made it just awesome.

I suppose the difference between celine and the others you mentioned is the fact that Celine has always included covers in her shows and albums. Not saying she should or has to etc, but she does.

And the other thing is for the non diehard celine fan who doesn't know album tracks etc, there's a good chance they'll recognise the covers she does perform. Especially if they're classic songs like PR/KISS/TSMGO ☺

Of course an ordinary person doesn't know that she'll sing TSMGO, which makes it a very good surprise when they hear it. Better than if she sang With This Tear.

And come on, no-one compares to Celine at LV. Nowadays, one cannot say Las Vegas without mentioning Celine. There's really no point in comparing with what Elton, Shania, Britney or even Mariah Carey (whom I'm also a fan) do. People also have a good time there because they recognize songs like TSMGO, and they're like 'Wow, that was a great rendition'. Unknown songs really wouldn't make it.

Covers are nice surprises for people who are familiar with those particular songs, but they are not an expectation. What is missing from Celine's shows is more singles - the well-known as well as the more obscure. Average people in the audience are very likely to realise they knew many more of her songs than they thought if she were to perform them. This connection is so important as it brings people closer to her music, but unfortunately we get the same few hits over and over.

 

I have said before with regards to her French shows that performing songs live makes people remember Celine's songs and can actually turn songs into 'hits' - just look at the minor or non-single releases like DUAM, Terre, Regarde-moi & Destin that are considered hits for no reason other than the fact she sings them live so much. Just compare Je crois toi & En attendant ses pas - both were released at the same time as promo-only singles in France. JCT was performed live during 2 tours, the other has never been done live. Yet JCT has a much bigger significance in her catalogue because of its live exposure. Sadly, Celine neglects so many of her other songs and doesn't give them the chance. If she sang IYAMT, TT, Misled, OOR, TCOML, FIY, CTM, TPOTD & TH again, I guarantee that average people will recall at least some of these great songs, either remembering when they were originally on the radio or perhaps realising for the first time that it was Celine who recorded that song.

 

I go to see many concerts every year. I saw Bryan Adams on Saturday and he sang 28 songs; only 1 was a cover. The rest were all singles from the last 36 years, as well as new material. If only Celine could put on a show like this!
