I agree. Average people don't go to a Celine show to hear covers; they go for her voice, and her music. Covers are nice surprises for people who are familiar with those particular songs, but they are not an expectation. What is missing from Celine's shows is more singles - the well-known as well as the more obscure. Average people in the audience are very likely to realise they knew many more of her songs than they thought if she were to perform them. This connection is so important as it brings people closer to her music, but unfortunately we get the same few hits over and over.

 

I have said before with regards to her French shows that performing songs live makes people remember Celine's songs and can actually turn songs into 'hits' - just look at the minor or non-single releases like DUAM, Terre, Regarde-moi & Destin that are considered hits for no reason other than the fact she sings them live so much. Just compare Je crois toi & En attendant ses pas - both were released at the same time as promo-only singles in France. JCT was performed live during 2 tours, the other has never been done live. Yet JCT has a much bigger significance in her catalogue because of its live exposure. Sadly, Celine neglects so many of her other songs and doesn't give them the chance. If she sang IYAMT, TT, Misled, OOR, TCOML, FIY, CTM, TPOTD & TH again, I guarantee that average people will recall at least some of these great songs, either remembering when they were originally on the radio or perhaps realising for the first time that it was Celine who recorded that song.

 

I go to see many concerts every year. I saw Bryan Adams on Saturday and he sang 28 songs; only 1 was a cover. The rest were all singles from the last 36 years, as well as new material. If only Celine could put on a show like this!

Aw yes, the problem is, how to get Celine and team to realize this? We know this but by now the wish is pointless, meaning we keep hoping for this and it never comes. I would truly love to know the reasoning. Edited May 3, 2016 at 09:31 PM by DionFanAlways

I remember when "Seduces Me" and "I Surrender" were removed from "A New Day..." due to poor reception from those who saw the show. I remember hearing patrons say they had wished to hear something more familiar instead of "that chair song," or "the one with that fire stuff going on." Oh, wait...

 

Yup...I remember coming out of the womb and instantaneously knowing the only Celine Dion songs I loved hearing performed live were "Because You Loved Me" and "My Heart Will Go On." Oh, wait...

 

The point I'm making is the only way for people to become familiar - AND LOVE - Celine's original material is for she and her team to introduce it to the public. I am sure plenty of people would find out they love "Then You Look At Me," "Have You Ever Been In Love" and "Somebody Loves Somebody" if she and her team would just dedicate themselves to believing in those songs.

I agree. The bridge in vegas leaves a lot to be desired still in comparison to the bridge during a FIY show or the Rosie performance

You are all talking about how Celine's show needs to change as if it's bad. She's been in LV for 13 years, still successful as ever. They're doing it right, guys.

 

We fans, want little-known songs from her discography, but that shouldn't be how it works. When you go to someone's concert (Bryan Adams or anyone else), you decide and pay to see that particular singer. It's all good to present/recall unknown stuff all over his worldwide concerts. Like when Celine sang Destin during her Tour in France.

 

Celine's LV show is one of the attractions in Las Vegas. Most of the audience are non-fans. It would be a great mistake to replace Purple Rain in which she really delivers in all aspects, by an unknown song like With This Tear.

I agree. Actually, the song selection of the TCWT was exemplary. She really supported her album (singing 6 to 9 songs out of it) and her old original songs as well.

 

We Will Rock You / The Show Must Go On and It's A Man's World were the covers of tour, served their purpose, and nobody ever complained.

True, then do her gems like LMBTL, Breakaway, SLS, Fly, EOM. 25 song setlist for her Vegas show. PERFECT. I don't mind her current show, I wouldn't omit any changes either, but the Covers are a little much as of yet (the last 13 years).

I had no issues paying attention to how she was singing the song. You just needed to concentrate harder on the important things instead of drooling over the dancers on stage

Imagine The venue goes dark - the great screen starts showing different brands of peanut butter - and all of a sudden you hear the first few chords strike of "Listen to the magic man" and Celine comes out wearing a wig that covers her whole face for the rest of the show.
