I love the prince medley but I think she should really sing "With this Tear" in the Show now.

She owe's it to him.

I wish they included With This Tear instead of this dreadful medley

Celine just posted "best wishes" message to Lionel who opened his show in LV!

Not sure about the wardrobe thought, I just hope that she changes it up , but she only there for 11 shows before going on her Mimi-tour, for the summer.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this, but I definitely do not think she should put With This Tear into her show at this point. It's a song about someone whose beloved has died. I can only imagine that it would be extremely painful for Celine to sing.

Her show since last August has been such a positive, life-affirming, and hopeful message despite all she's gone thru; even those really emotional songs like MHWGO or Over the Rainbow have a message of hope or strength in addition to the sandness. For her to add a song with such unremittingly sad lyrics just wouldn't fit:

"And again and again u promised me/That u'd never leave/But now u're gone";

"Please tell me what I did wrong/Why must I hear your voice inside my head/All day and all night long/It's not fair"

"When u told me u were dying/I had less courage it's true"

I can't see Celine saying any of these things - at least, not publicly, not as part of her show. I don't expect Ne Me Quitte Pas back, and I don't want her to sing this song. There are plenty of other ways for her to honor Prince.

Dear @LionelRichie, Welcome to Las Vegas! Have a good time and best of luck!

A Song from Prince

” “With This Tear” is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard or felt… Thank you for the honor”; Celine expressed these words of thanks to Prince on the 1992 album ‘Celine Dion’.

The single “Beauty and the Beast” was released four months prior to the release of the album ‘Celine Dion’ and it became an instant hit. The word is that it’s after hearing this legendary movie theme on the radio that Prince wanted to write a song for Celine.

“With This Tear” is one of the last songs recorded for the album ‘Celine Dion’ stealing a spot on the album which was originally reserved for “Calling You” from the film ‘Bagdad Cafe’, which Celine regularly sang in concert at the time.

Celine recorded “With This Tear” at the Studio Morin Heights on René’s 50th birthday, January 16, 1992.

I think she will sing the song in her show, she loves Prince and the song.

I am probably in the minority here, but the reason you stated for your not wanting "With This Tear" in the show is exactly the reason I believe it SHOULD be in her show. Music and art are ways of expressing one's emotions. Furthermore, I have found her Las Vegas show to be too one dimensional. A song like "With This Tear" would bring much needed artistic depth to the show. I love heartbreaking songs just as much as happy, joyous ones. With everything in life, there is always a Yin-Yang effect. "All By Myself" was a good start to this, but I truly believe adding at least one more heartbreaking song such as "With This Tear" (or even "Think Twice") would help round out the show much better.

I hear what you're saying, but I guess what I'm saying is that I *don't* think the lyrics of this song reflect her emotions about Rene. She recorded this song before she'd experienced any real losses in her life, and the lyrics are different from the messages she expressed when she did experience loss.

The song should actually mean more now that Renè is gone. It should feel like written the song herself. I think now is the perfect timing for Celine to sing songs about loss.

That's the thing, though . . . I don't think With This Tear reflects her feelings, and I don't think it would feel like she wrote it herself. Of course, I'm not inside her head -- none of us are, and can't know how she feels, but based on what she's said in the past, I can't see her saying things like:

"Please tell me what I did wrong/Why must I hear your voice inside my head/All day and all night long/It's not fair" -- I don't think she wants to stop hearing Rene's voice inside her head; in fact, she said that she still talks to him all the time.

"And again and again u promised me/That u'd never leave/But now u're gone" -- I don't think she'd phrase it like that. Rene never promised he'd never leave -- in fact, he's planned and worried about his passing for many many years before he died (Remember: When they found out RC was going to be a boy, Rene was glad b/c it would be someone to take care of Celine when he was gone.)

And it's not that the song is sad -- it's that the message is *only* sadness and depression. And I don't think that's the message Celine is going for. Her "Over the Rainbow" is beyond heartwrenching, with its sadness and poignancy and wishing things were different. But there's a message of hope there, too. Even MHWGO -- even after being sung 10 million times, it's now incredibly sad to watch her sing it -- but it's more than sad -- it's also a message of strength, of continuing to live, of him being with her even though he's passed away. And I think that's more of the message Celine wants to transmit through her show.

That's just my take, anyway.

Nowhere in the song does it imply death. More like a sort of unrequited/ lost / fleeting love

Plus, she's said before that the songs are like movies in her head. She's not as fragile as everyone thinks she is.

And then this...lol

"With these arms

I held u

When u told me u were dying

I had less courage it's true

And u wrote every day

Writing 'bout the things

That we could do

When your pain went away

But all that went away was u"

I didn't realize Prince wrote it with the short-hand 'u'. I've learned a lot.

Strangely I always took interpreted it as her falling in love with a man not yet over a love.

It's not that I think she's fragile; it's that I truly don't think this song reflects her emotions or the messages she wants to send through her show at this point in her life. That's just my opinion; clearly others feel differently.

Given the upcoming tour of Europe and Canada i highly doubt there will be any changes to the show in May; especially for only 11 shows.

I do think she'll replace "Are you watching me now" back for I surrender, and that will be it.

Did you ever read the CD booklet? :giggle:

For someone who didn't like social media, Prince was very ahead of his time! The way he wrote the lyrics kinda annoyed me way back then, but now it's normal :giggle:

I wonder what Celines initial reaction to the lyrics was.

With this tear

I thee want

I long 4 u 2 talk 2 me like u did

Ever heard of symbolism? ? Have you ever said you were dying? I'm assuming you didn't.
