"Celine" The Revamped Show

The question is... Why is she so off key lately? What is happening to her voice? She doesn't sleep well? She doesn't train her voice anymore? I don't care that she sings Hello in her show. Really don't. What bothers me is watching her kinda loose it. And it makes me sad.

OH my God the perfect pitch singer's at celine. Excuse me? Do you think she messed up and became out of tune for an entire verse? Being off key for a second is normal and not bad. But being off key for an entire line or verse is already sometghing. I hope you understand under all circumstances it's normal!!! Celine you're doing great. I love your cover of Hello. Thanks.

CELINE DION IS THE BEST. THE ONE, THE ONLY, PERFECTION.

Here is what happened a few minutes ago: A greek Tv show played 20'' of Celine's performance of ''Hello'' introducing it with good words for Celine. Once it was done my mother said: ''I didn't like it.''. I think this totally sums up what happened with this performance. It got rave reviews from critics but the general public hated it. Yes. As much as I'm ALL FOR Celine having fun. This "Adele sings now, I'm going to sing it cause she is my favourite singer", needs to stop. She is actually DOWNGRADING her own material and talent. Making herself look like a washed up Vegas act chasing a hit. I know that is contrary to what I posted earlier, but reflecting on my friends reactions--it's true!

And for the new english album stop with the grainy adele imitation voice too--like on Water and a flame. I cannot even listen to that now.

I got the survey yesterday and filled it out. Was a good survey--for the most part.

I agree , but let me think there must be a reason for Celine to be off key that much without noticing ,it's really weird ,I'm just assuming but that never happened that much with mego ,do u think it's her new conductor ,I mean at least somebody has to tell her ,even Elise or barniev

The voice is an extantion of your body. If you don't feel well, we are going to hear it. I'm sorry, but i'm worried about her well being right now. I'm glad she sang hello, but we can hear in many songs that she is flat. And for a singer like Celine, being flat is not usual. Especially in a song like Hello...

That being said i'm all for the tries that she gives. She's genuinely loves Adele and i liked the tribute. She said many times that she doesn't listen to music very often. And to know that she's Adele #1 fan makes me smile and happy. Go Celine, sing the intire 25 album if you want to. (Ok not that much... ;) )

I don't think she deserves this. Being off key could be because of problems with her hear monitors. She could not hear the piano well

Right. She always has a problem with her ear monitor. That ear monitor.

I know it was a bit of fun and it was live, but she was still flat in parts, and I wish she'd stop covering Adele in the show. That could have been a chance for a rare performance of her own songs we ain't heard in a few years or never heard live.

Anyway it's in the past... Let's leave it there! :P

Clearly Celine isn't as enchanted by her back catalog as her fans are lol (who can blame her? For a singer with her talent she lacks quality material in English)

I can't believe how emotional people are getting over her taking a moment for herself and singing a song SHE wanted to sing. God forbid she have a little fun.

It's true, the internet era makes fandom better and worse. Years ago we would have just heard that she sang it and maybe heard a bootleg copied 100X . Now it's instantaneous that we hear it.

hahaha :D but guys, let's just give her a break. We should be happy that she is on stage at all! She could have stayed home with Rene instead. Moreover, when she does a show with 20 or more songs live it's normal that she will not sound "perfect" all the time because she is just human. Let her just have fun with her favourite song

I can see how people think that she lacks quality in her English songs, but I do believe she has a lot of quality songs in English.

Celine version is actually brilliant. She is often blamed to too much copy cat original versions but here she really transforms the phrasing and meaning with her stake of the verse. Adele's is like a dramatic prayer (the pace is slow, the key is low) whereas Celine's is flowing (the pace is quicker, the key higher) like someone of 40+ year old who has seen things and quietly look back, just like the lyrics say: "was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet". Adele's version fits a passionate 25 year old whereas Celine's fits a heart-at-peace 47 year old.

Vocally the chorus is where the voice soars and where she shines : so effortless and smooth without screaming but a fluid take off and landing.

As for those who say she was flat or off key they must be deaf (or must have stayed petrified by the two flat notes of the AMA performance lol)

I am sure Adele (who is a Celine fan) would like it :-)

And love how humble and gracious Celine is: she loves singers, she loves songs. A 200 million albums seller who simply states she is a fan. A magnificent human being who sings with a big heart.

Because Celine sang the verse totally (and intelligently) differently from the original version. But people are so used to Adele's version due to radio overexposure that they cannot understand (for now. If it was in some months/years time I am sure the would ;) )

Celine's version is simply bad and that's the truth, and again nothing called for fun ,sing it at home for fun ,again people came to the show for u ,why highlight someone who is I'm sorry to say ( more successful than u are now ,in terms of new music and charts .....I mean ) and they are comparing her already to Celine so at least u could've just as I said skip talking about her that's all ,I feel like she's afraid of Adele success so that's why she's trying so hard to show that she love her

While I wish all the hoopla was over a different performance, this is not necessarily a bad thing.

OK, so the YouTube comments aren't universally positive - but are they ever?

And while I don't necessarily subscribe to the "no such thing as bad publicity" adage, I'm glad it puts Celine back in the public consciousness and reminds people that she's been doing this ballad thing masterfully for decades, long before Adele came along, and is still very much at it.

I think LA Times put it best -

"Among the great power balladeers who helped create the world in which Adele now thrives, Celine Dion gets nowhere near the credit she deserves.

Sure, we talk about Barbra Streisand; yes, let's definitely credit Roberta Flack. But you can't get to "Someone Like You" or "Don't You Remember" without going through the weepy-yet-grandiose likes of "Because You Loved Me" or "My Heart Will Go On," the ne plus ultra of Kleenex-rending confessions."

And let's not forget, "press" coverage is unanimously, and I mean unanimously glowing. Pages and pages of Google News results with nothing but praise. So there.

(Mind you, I say "press" because I don't necessarily agree with Google that these are all news outlets, but there you have it.)

And, I'm also hoping stuff like this helps Celine & her team realize the power of social media and spurs them into more impromptu moments like this.

So I just got and took the thank you survey. In addition to the questions about the show and new album they asked about what kinds of lifestyle things we'd like to see her involved in. This included fashion, children's, cars, banking, etc. I found some options quite funny. So they must be serious about moving forward in this way. Wish I could remember all of them. Her own shoe line was not an option so I didn't vote for anything and wrote in in the other category. Just couldn't really picture her doing any of the listed options.

Banking?!?!??! WTF?

Seriously, the world doesn't need a Celine-branded credit card.

No, no, no. I hope Aldo does not go there...

Yeah I was struck by the universal media praise. Not used to it. For decades she was criticized no matter how good she was. I guess she's this living legend figure now...

It's crazy to me, I'm so confused how the media LOVES Celine's version of "Hello" but the general public for the most part don't?

I've never seen this before with Celine, usually the media is tough as nails on Celine when she deserves credit. "You Shook Me All Night Long" comes to mind they murdered Celine over it because it was too cool for her or too rock? But they love this because it's a power ballad?

I just hope that Celine's team return to her roots for the next English album, no grain or grit vocals we want PURE crystal vocals with some great power ballads!

Indeed. It's a curious thing. Same can be said for the AMA performance. These certainly weren't her strongest showings, yet the critical tide certainly seems to have turned.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that we live in a very different critical milieu now than we did in the 90's. There's no need to be subversive to be considered legitimate, as Carl Wilson (in his Let's Talk About Love book), and several others have discussed in recent years. The same critics who turned their noses up on anything 'popular' then are now much more apt to find something redeeming in almost every chart topper. And that's relatively new.

It's food for thought. I think Celine is, in a way, en route to some critical redemption in the coming years. A whole crop of new artists are coming up now that consider her a major influence, so I think we'll see a lot more credit given to her as a defining figure.
