I saw this on Facebook: someone said is something is wrong with her, her performance was bad, just like the AMA.

 

It's very good to see her new band member taking it up for her, and according to him she only rehearsed it one hour before the show. I guess it really was a last minute spur of the moment kind of thing... which frankly is great!

Didn't Demi Lovato sing it the first week it was released? Everyone's singing it, not just Celine. The world will continue to spin and no-one will really give it a thought.

 

I love that she sang it. It's not as if she choose to sing it at an awards show or something. People always sing other people's songs- and they knew the crowd would love it in Vegas because it is so record-breakingly huge everywhere.

But Demi isn't close to Celine's status level. I think if you're a legend trying to cover the hottest song at the moment, you'll be put under a microscope. Keep in mind that everyone can record on their phone nowadays so a video going viral can possibly create more publicity than an appearance on a tv show.

 

The issue here isn't that she sang the song, as other people have pointed out, lots of artists are covering this song right now. The issue is that it wasn't a good performance. Her timing was off, it sounded awkward because of her English speaking accent, it was flat in parts, it sounded too high and a little nasal.

 

If she knocked it out of the park like she did with Rolling in the Deep, the comments wouldn't be as harsh as they are. It was just a bad attempt at a hot song right now. It comes across as desperate even though I'm sure that wasn't the intent.

 

She needed to nail it, for fun or not, because she's held to a higher standard, and this is another somewhat poor performance right behind the AMA performance. With Adele being so popular right now, if an icon is going to sing it, it needs to be spectacular. It just isn't the right song for celine's voice. Can you imagine Adele singing MHWGO? It wouldn't work for her voice.

Maybe the songs is an hymn to the Illuminati and makes part of the rituals to sing the song for the new year, Celine is the queen and Adele the princess :giggle:

i have a good ear, it was not that bad, too strong a reaction from many people. But i will send her a memo that she should see an ORL....

Yes, it wasn't that bad, to nasal, but not terrible. The song is boring anyway.

Maybe, and I hope it doesn't happen for a time to come, but if Rene passes away, maybe Celine should think of not going back to singing on stage, and rather stay at home with her boys. Then she can focus on just releasing CD's every couple of years. No more ugly remarks from people, all the critique down to the last little thing, for me, she doesn't deserve to be treated like that, whatever she does is wrong, she doesn't need this in her life. I know she is not perfect, she does sometimes not do things the perfect way. She has said she wants to be with her family and live normally. She doesn't have to put up with all this crap. The fans can just buy the CD's, not see her anymore, and Celine can finally be happy with her children and live a happy life, that she has always wanted.

I know some people are going to disagree with my post, but I am starting to love her performance of hello. You can really hear her emotion in the chorus and I think that it's not a matter of she was off, she was really loving the song and she was in awe, I belive. I know that she was flat, pish posh, but I believe she was singing "Hello from the other side..." To people like Adhémar, Eddy Marnay, and Jean-Jacques. She was singing to them to tell them hello, it's me, I'm still here. I think the overall emotion she was displaying out weights all the flaws in the notes she was singing. It's just what I've been feeling about the performance!

I find the sound is better on that video which makes her performance sound better. Actually I really like it. She could have done better but to me she did a really good job and it was just for fun! :)

Yes they're bad. But I can't defend her because it didn't sound good to my ears either. However, Celine is free to do as she pleases and I welcome her doing impromptu things in the future.

More sites are starting to pick this up. It's only going to get more publicity next week, on pace to have more views than the AMA tribute. This is probably the worst PR she received in ages. I think this will take a lot of time to wear off.

All the more reason for her to "retire". So much negativity over a simple song, it has got completely out of hand. It wasn't meant to be a huge surprise that a new song was going to be included in the set list. It was just done randomly, a once off. The people are actually being stupid for the way it is carrying on. Would other singers be ripped apart by their fans, for everything they do, to the extent that Celine is being treated, I don't somehow think so.... I really feel for her.
