"Celine" The Revamped Show

The thing is that when you do go to a Celine Dion concert you want to hear Celine Dion songs, when you attend a NYE concert it's obvious that they'll do something special = you expect a present from Celine which is rather her own song that she doesn't usually do in her show.

It's not that we should even discuss if Celine should have fun or not during the show, the answer is clear but that doesn't change the fact that everybody expects her songs and are fans because she sang Breakaway not Hello. It was a great occassion to show that she has new modern big ballads and to promote it, but no they choose Adele's song... it's a nonsense. Is Celine gonna promote albums and singles by other artists instead of hers? It looks like that. Sorry, even though I do like her version of Hello (I can't stand Adele's and don't understand the praise it gets) and many of you could even love this cover, we DON'T need it.

Really, answer one question. Wouldn't you prefer Another Year Has Gone By or Happy Xmas or name any song which is your favourite by Celine? It's as simple as that

You are correct. Celine is the one who chose to perform "Hello." It is her show, after all. We all make our own choices in life. We all have our own journeys to go on. So, with that said, Celine is of course free to do what she wants with her life/career/show, just as I have my own choice to not spend my hard-earned money on a show with covers that do absolutely nothing for me when sung by Celine.

Sorry, but with that said, forget about Celine completely, don't ever waste your money on her again. Enjoy your trip to Disneyland.......

Yes it wouldn't be the same if Adele does Celine songs which she will never do and I do think it's a little too much for a legend like Celine to have so much praise for her. I get that she is popular and has good songs though not a huge fan at all but she's one of the better out there compared to other mediocre "singers" which in this day and age there is not much competition in that category. But yea for Celine her priority is promoting her owns songs if not her then who? She might eventually give more promotion to a song that is already everywhere.

I love Celine a lot and she is my absolute favorite always. I like this forum because people like me celebrate her. But I hardly ever post because there is always so much judgment and negativity by people who also call themselves fans.

She literally said, "just for fun, ok?" And then sang a small portion of the song. It was like 2.5 minutes long. With just piano. It wasn't time to try and promote her album that came out well over 2 years ago. She was having fun and sang an Adele song for 2 minutes.

Demi Lavato covered Hello in a concert and people thought it was nice. Celine did it for fun and her fans are saying, "how dare you? Sings your own songs!"

I don't get it. We have tons of bootlegs of her shows already. Last night she gave us something new. Why is it even getting this much attention? And why are people so mean?

Also, don't people pay to hear Celine dion? Like, sing whatever? Why does it even have to be her own songs? I just want to hear her sing! Also...it's a Vegas show. And everyone from Whitney to Mariah have done a million covers. What's the big deal?

Agree with you totally. That a 2 to 3 minute song, that she is happy singing, can cause so much, I don't even know what to say. I can't believe it, freakin unbelievable. 3 minutes, 3 minutes, 1 little song. I really enjoyed it. Sorry for the rant, over and done with.

I'm the first one to stand for Celine or defend her, I think it happens to all of us in some point of our lives,when we are with friends or family and they start picking on Celine and you are like " Well I DID like the backward tuxedo she wore at the Oscars in '99..."

But I love her, I've been a fan since 1996 and as a person she NEVER let me down,and neither an an artist, but I'm not the kind of fan who will say she is flawless every freaking time (fanaticism can be tricky, I love her but I can see the two sides of the coin) I know when she is KILLING it and sometimes I'm mature enough to say "Celine, this was not your best job" (i.e on the AMA's her voice was totally out of tune, but it was so heartfelt that I loved it and so did the audience) and by this it does not means I'm full of hate, or that I'm being cruel or I'm being insensitive to her current situation with Rene (By the way, what the hell that has to do with this, but anyway...)

Being a fan is ALSO owning up to it and admiting this cover was "fun" but TOTALLY unnecessary. I'm hoping it was just a NYE's Eve treat...

I think the cover is more of the "just for fun" like she said, in a way we are talking about the turn her career is making by covers like this

Whats next? Celine doing Taylor Swift? Celine doing Beyonce? Celine doing Ariana Grande?

As a fan I think is also "healthy" to point out what we think is wrong or not cool with her career, and if you are the kind of fan that thinks she is untouchable, well, maybe yes, this place is not for you, so please, to some people..a critic doesn't mean you are the biggest a**hole out there, nobody is insulting her, so chill and calm down, and face the fact that the cover failed, not everybody love it, not even hardcore fans...

Dion sang the tune during her New Year's Eve concert in Las Vegas, and of course the crowd was delighted as soon as they heard that the cover would be taking place. (Dion immediately managed expectations by informing them that Adele herself wasn't in the building.)

This isn't the first time Dion has sung some Adele; she previously

I do agree she wants to have fun now and then. And maybe this was just for this one evening. Who knows? Maybe i have been a bit harsh too. But i do not always think people like her singing such a popular song. And this whole discussion, which i contributed to as well..started with people filming during concerts. And then it is posted on youtube and there we go...haha but i have to say when i would have been there that night i would have been excited to hear Celine's take on hello as well.

I wonder what Adele thinks about the great Celine Dion covering her song;)

And i said it before- Celine needs songs like these- big power ballads. Let us hope that her new English album loaded with those!

Amen. Not every decision is a good one. And it does not make anyone less a fan when he or she disagrees with certain songs like another Adele cover. Maybe there are too many covers in the show. But let 's not forget that the show needs to appeal to many people. People know those prince songs, they know Adele but most of them probably do not know all of the songs Celine did, like then you look at me for example. It is not that easy to make the perfect setlist.

Oh calm down everyone. She loves Adele. She loves the song. She wanted to just have some fun. It was probably barely rehearsed. I like the fact that Céline is a lot more spontaneous with this show - walking through the audience, letting people sing with her, FINALLY singing MHWGO live, etc. She wasn't singing Adele because she wanted to copy her or be "cool." Calling her "pathetic" for doing it is just disrespectful. Let her have some fun if she wants to take 2 min out of the show instead of criticising...

Speaking of spontaneous, Has anyone seen the video on instagram of some guy rushing up onto the stage last night trying to get to Celine?

There is a video on the iconosquare instagram page that shows what went down. I wrote about it in the random topics section, but I thought a should post about it here as well, since this topic is about Celine's show.

The video shows Celine ending the show and bowing to her band in her blue dress, so the video has Celine with her arms out and wearing the MHWGO blue dress. I just thought I would mention that part, because I just thought to myself that it might be hard for people to find the video if they didn't know what to look for.

I know what you mean, press tend to be pretty respectful when they talk about Celine (career-voice wise) so yeah, I don't think you'll find harsh comment on news outlets. But as I said before, this goes beyond the "fun" Adele cover, this in a way is a "wake up call" is showing us the way her career is re shaping, does she REALLY needed this cover? even it it was a short version, just goofing aroound version...did Celine reached the point she needs to borrow Adele to keep it cool??? THAT scares me a little...not the NYE fun cover...

I don't care what the other fans here think but I LOVE LOVE LOVE CELINE's version of HELLO. I don't think your opinion is important. Celine's trying to be a normal person and if she wants to sing whatever song she wants she can sing it. So SHut it!!! I'm so ANGRY with the people of the forum here saying all mean things to her when she sounded incredibly amazing. her tone is diferrent and so much better than you freakin adele fans!!! If you don't like her singing then just say you don't like it period, because not everyone thnks the same way perfect people!!!

I like Adele's version a bit better, but her version isn't bad at all. I enjoyed it. It was fun and different, and a nice surprise. It sounds like she had fun. What else should matter? Too bad the crazy person ran at her, otherwise it would have sounded like it was a fun night and a good show.

I don't think she's avoiding her own material . . . I think she's always just sung songs she likes. She doesn't write her own songs. . . so, for her, there's not necessarily more of an emotional connection to an song that's on one of her albums as opposed to an Adele album. If you think about it -- we fans have listened to her albums over and over, so for us, those are "Celine songs." For Celine, I think that the songs that became hits or the songs she performs often are "her" songs . . . but for many of the non-single tracks, they're something that she heard a couple of times, spent a few hours recording years ago, and rarely or never performed -- so it's just a song, one among probably thousands that she enjoys or connects to. And if she's been loving Adele's new album and playing it a lot -- it makes sense that she'd want to sing it in her show. Just my thoughts.

She sang a minute of a song from Pajamimals (a kids show) and a second (really just the title) of Aretha Franklin's "Rescue Me" once when the Stevie Wonder hologram broke. So, I suppose, anything is possible

While I appreciate we want her to sing her songs as that's why we are fans- because we like her singing and her songs- I don't think there is a problem with her singing a 2 minute rendition of another artist's song...a song that she clearly likes and an artist we know she admires. My God, we are so demanding and harsh and critical of her. Heaven forbid she does what she wants.
