"Courage" album - Official Topic

Including Ashes on the album would eventually have led people to discover Courage. If they searched Spotify or Apple for the song title, the Courage version would have shown up as a result.

Covid really wrecked the album's sales.

No it didn’t. Courage came out (and dropped like a stone) long before. And besides, recorded music consumption was up, not down, during the pandemic, so if anything, it should have helped. But the album was long forgotten by the time much of the world started shutting down.

Exactly and not many people buy cds nowadays or pay for a digital album, because most people , even my parents, have spotify or deezer or can listen to each track on youtube.

Covid had nothing to do with the album sales.

Those sales dropped like a week after the album had been released.

If they truly did 'something' during covid it would have actually helped the sales I think.

But she decided not to a thing, so okay.

Still Sony could have done something, but they also decided not to.

Covid really wrecked the album's sales. Who knows what else they had planned for Courage? It might be they were planning for Ellen and giving Courage album as gift.

Or they were going to do a big Netflix documentary for her last show of Courage World Tour. Or they were to release Lying Down music video.

What if Lying Down music video is for another album..like Have You Ever Been In Love? For A New Day Has Come and One Heart.

Has anyone here made their own track list order for this album?

I really like so many of the songs on Courage... there are many strong songs... but I do think there's a better, more effective way to order the tracks.

This might have been mentioned by somebody else before, but I think it'd be nice to order the songs according to the lyrics... where the album takes us on Celine's emotional journey from sadness / brokenness (after Rene's death) ...to the process of healing / acceptance ... to finally feeling stronger. I think it'd be more effective if there were a somber tone at the beginning of the album and then it gets lighter and more optimistic as it continues.

For instance, I think Flying On My Own should be one of the final tracks instead of opening the album. The album opener should be a more visceral / honest song considering this is Celine's first English album without Rene.

Interview with LP. She mentions Change My Mind, and that it wasn’t a song written specifically for Céline, just one Céline picked out of LP’s unreleased catalog. “I understand why she picked it. It’s got a modulation, it’s hard to sing.”

I love how Barbra is releasing each of the tracks for her new album song by song… with an accompanying video describing the story behind each song.

Builds up excitement & makes us feel more connected to the music.

If Céline aren't busy with her tours and residency shows. Do you think they will think of this? She's so busy with the tours. I wish they'll do what they did in 90's

- Release the album

- Promotions - TV guestings- (also they go to other countries just to promote the album), Behind the scenes/Sessions, Music Videos..)

- World Tour

I think "Say Yes" is right there with "Recovering" and "My Love" as her most emotional songs of the last 15 years.

"Say Yes" hit me hard since the very beginning. I listened to the whole album that night, but this was really emotional. "Recovering" helped me tremenously during the toughest moments of my life last year. "My love" is my song for life! If not the best for me, then one of the three top Celine's songs. Not only hers

Say Yes also hit me too! My Love I don't really relate to as much, but seeing Celine give her emotional delivery of it really takes me there. I am so glad "Recovering" was helpful to you, Celine really touches me with that one too.

I love how on Say Yes, and Recovering she uses talk singing. And the lyrics are written such that it sounds already like a direct conversation to yourself or someone close, so that's really where the power lies. Maybe one day Celine will "say yes" to a new love in her life, when she's ready of course.

To me Courage actually hit hard. When singers connect their personal life with a song it, the song gets a different kind of feeling. And I love the fact that she did record that song. It's a big "shut the mouth" kind of thing for the haters who says her voice is changed and that she can't sing. I hope her voice gets like that after pandemic.

That's the other one, yes! The only difference is that one is a bit more generic in the lyrics, but its simplicity is also a strong point. Celine sings it so well. Her voice was so great there, but I have to admit I disliked the editing they put on it a little bit. You can hear the editing when she sings "madness"

Always with the "Yeah It's good but..." lol

Only Céline can deliver great emotions for a song. That's why almost all her songs are ballads. When I heard Lara's short singing of "Courage", it doesn't really fit well. Yes, she has a great voice but her singing are too loose. There's no flavor in her singing. Just a plain smooth loose singing. I like what Céline have done with this song. Perfectly balanced. Not tight and not loose. And the vocal fry in some parts really fits well.

I love her Live performance of this song especially when she sings the chorus in live. You can feel it.

I agree with you, she really does the song justice live. I love when she performs it. I hope it's part of the vegas show too

I also wish "Breakaway" will be part of the setlist but it's a hard song. I'm having doubts if she can deliver it Live.

Back in 2016, Scott told me that they had rehearsed the song in Vegas for the revamped version of the show. Unfortunately, Celine wasn't convinced with the result and decided to remove the song from the setlist.

Yeah Celine, stick to LCMM instead... she doesn’t even give new songs a try

Interesting. I think she’s planning on singing this song Live but I guess doing it every show is quite difficult for her. I think this song will fit for orchestral version and curious on Scott’s arrangement

Or she had the plans back then, becauss since 2015 she never sang it yet. But who knows, back in 2003 she also arranged love is all we need and in 2017 finally she sang it :)

Maybe it will be part of the new setlist for her new residency show

Quite interesting this post from Humberto Gatica. It was posted on his previous Instagram page. He talks about Celine's "courage", in February 2016.

Where they recording Play Me Like a Love Song? Maybe yes...

I think it’s just a coincidence. Céline said they only chose “Courage” as the title of the album after they received the song from Moccio which came after other songs and was only recorded in late 2017. In February 2016 I think they were still working on Encore un soir.

The best is yet to come...
