I love that Diane is responding to the fans!

It's great that she is so proud of Water from the Moon.

The entire Celine Dion album is so darn perfect, in my opinion.

Her voice is smooth perfection and it's such a classy album.

It was so different from Unison (which I enjoy, but they didn't quite hit a home run).

Celine, Rene, and David realized that they needed to lean into the Where Does My Heart Beat Now vibe and the rest is history.

Just for fun, I recently rearranged the tracks on Unison and it made a big difference. There's just a bit too much 80s going on, whereas the Celine Dion album has more of a dignified timeless quality.

 

I wonder what this "amazing new song" that Diane mentioned will be? And when?!

I wouldn't hope for anything. Humberto Gatica also claimed that a new song is just around the corner and nothing ever happened. I don't expect anything anymore. PS With the outfit Celine is wearing in "The Chase" video, I would have thought was an outfit she would wear while recording Flying On My Own or Nobody's Watching.

 

They probably told her “This song is a Taylor Swift reject,” and this was the resulting look. Haha

 

But in all seriousness, I do enjoy the song a lot, and find myself humming this tune quite often. Surprising that was the outfit she wore to record a “demo” ... i mean, the vocal is great and all, but I don’t see how they’d improve upon it -it’s not exactly the type of song you can do a lot with.

At 4:36 Mariah looks so out of place and her gesture seems uncomfortable, while the other fellow divas seems enjoying their time and dancing. A few minutes later Aretha asked the fellow divas to sing in higher notes by saying “Come on now, help me now.” At first she come to Mariah and challenge her to hit the notes with her. Mariah failed to copy Aretha’s not big time, and she knew it, you can see it in Mariah’s face that she’s struggling to hit the note. That’s why she immediately back off.

Aretha realize Mariah can’t answer her challenge, she turned to other fellows by saying “Higher! Come on, would you help me lift it?”

Celine is the only one who brave enough to answer Aretha’s challenge. Not only she copy Aretha’s note flawlessly, she also doing some brilliant improvisation. Aretha, realize she finally find her match, then do something like voice duel with Celine. They both enjoying the duel.

So, in my opinion, Mariah said horrible things about Celine that night simply because she’s jealous and she knew she failed to answer Aretha’s challenge, so she come up with this made up story that we know all along, you know, to cover her embarrassment. Defence and blame other is always best mechanism when you failed at something.

I agree that some of the upbeat songs are typical late 80s/early 90s pop songs that could stand being updated. It's interesting to think that Celine, Rene, and David probably did a pro/con list from Unison, and decided that we need more timeless pop songs to keep the career going. My only idea why many of these songs don't get performed to this day.

The Chase is a true gem, I agree. It was not one of the songs that wowed me the first 3/4 listens to the album. There are just too many top notch standouts (Laying Down being one), but it is a song that sneaks up on you as a listener I think. It definitely stands out among the "simple" songs off the record.

“The Chase” was one of those songs from ‘Courage’ that I instantly fell in love with the first time I heard it. Probably the most underrated song on the album.
