"Courage" album - Official Topic

I still believe they wanted to release the LD video to coincide with the European tour, maybe even coupled with a Eurovision performance (which was supposed to take place at *just* the right time).

But maybe I'm just naive that way 😊

A music video, especially the leading first single of the album, supposed to be released close to album release as part of the promo. It just don't make sense to release what supposed to be first single music video way long after the release of the album.

We also have to remember that Lying Down TANKED as a single. Imperfections did so much better. I suspect that they thought, because of Sia, Lying Down was going to be their best shot at a single from the album so they went ahead and shot a music video for it. Then, when Imperfections became the song that took off, they quickly scraped together video used for her tour videos, put her in a dress and her lip “I’ve got my own imperfections” over and over and POOF, made a video.

It’s very possible that they’ll give Lying Down another shot a single in the UK when the tour starts over there and the music video could see the light of day then. Or it could never see the light of day because the song didn’t do well and so they didn’t finish the video.

I thought I'd remember you saying that before. The theory that the LD video was scrapped because it went over budget certainly seems possible —anything is— but they'd have approved a budget before filming; I can't imagine what would cause the budget to balloon out of control and then, suddenly, they can't afford to pay for the special effects anymore. Didn't like the footage, need to reshoot, and Sony won't shell out the money? Changed their mind about the artistic direction or marketing strategy? Haha nice one! Whatever the reason, it just seems stupid and unprofessional to scrap the whole project. Like, surely, they must not know what they're doing.

I’m not sure it’s that the budget ballooned out of control. As I said above, the song Lying Down TANKED as a single. They could’ve assumed it was going to be the big song - they even included it in the tour at the beginning - so they shot a music video. It needed to be completed with special effects but...since the song went no one on the charts are on radio stations, and Imperfections did instead, they thought “Why spend money to finish a video for a song no one is paying attention?”

But Courage was even less successful and yet it got a video.

I don't think Courage was less successful. I looked at the charts a month back or so and I believe that Courage did better than Lying Down. I could be wrong about that and I don't want to take the time to go back and look. Someone else can do that and post the info. Edited by couldawouldashoulda

wow "lying down" was a single HERE in the U.S.??? wow i honestly DID NOT know that!!! color me shocked lol. 😮😜 i know that "imperfections" was indeed a single in the states, but not "lying down".

but still, even though "lying down" might not have been a hit single or whatever, the video SHOULD still be released during this rough time! after all, we all know concerts are not going to resume for another year/2 years... so WHY NOT release the video already to the fans? honestly who cares how celine "looks" in the video? i dont! & i think most of us wont! we just want to see/hear her @ this point thats all! 😊💗

Im convinced that the LD video is entirely completed, with the necessary effects and all. It’s just that they saw that the song didn’t take off, and it’s very likely that they didn’t want to risk having a flop. Or they just didn’t like the end result (which I could understand judging by the outrageous/weird „dancers who don’t dance“ and „mars“ concept).

Or maybe it appeared satanic (it was all blood red) and Celine was heavily criticised for her Nununu clothes prior, so they didn’t want to take the risk lol.

Maybe they could tkink twice before start some project like musicvideo ... I think very important part why things are this way is Celine is NOT INTERESTED, If she was I m sure video would be out. But reason why we need this video so much is because it seems to be little bit diffrent little bit more artistic and also because she has so little musicvideos from recent years ... TC era one LMBT one Courage two but very simple thanks God we have Ashes video. Edited by duri

Yup. It could be any of these reasons. And any number of reasons that none of us will ever consider.

Well..we don't "need this video." We may WANT the video but we don't NEED it.

yep that is true that we "dont NEED it", but still during a pandemic that could still last another year or TWO, it would be nice to just release it on youtube... who knows people might like it lol... 😉

just my humble opinion though lol 😊

Actually, it is common.

Who bares the cost of marketing, promo, videos etc depends on the specific deal the artist has with the label. So e.g. if it's a distribution deal, the artist bares it all. It it's a profit share (and my suspicion is Celine's deal is likely a profit share), the artist bares [50%], with the actual number depending on the details of the specific contract; and it might itemize what costs are/ aren't shared. License and master deals vary.

Bottom line, you can't really say without seeing her contract.

True we don't know unless we see her contract but knowing René's negotiation's skills, I would be very surprised if she would have to pay for her music videos (or even 50% of it). I know two people who are signed to a label and they don't pay a thing. But they are not multi millionaires... :giggle:

OMG i would really LOVE a video for "the hard way", that is one of my FAVE songs from the courage album! ("lying down" is another one, that is why i would not have a problem with the video cause i adore the song) 😍

& i know most likely there will NO more videos from this album thanks to the coronavirus & everybody is still in quarantine right now, but it is such a shame that a few songs (such as "the hard way" did not get music videos as i think they are fantastic songs & the hard way is one of those songs that DESERVES a video! the message in the lyrics, which i think are perfect during this pandemic, & the power of celines voice in that song is truly AMAZING!!!) 💗

Are we even sure that that was the filming of lying down? Or was it just a photo shoot?

They filmed the music video. Celine even talked about how excited she was with the concept, dancers, etc.

Mariah’s fans and Britney’s fans made her albums come back to iTunes. Britney even changed the cover of her latest album and has added a bonus song there this week. Why can’t we do a campaign to make pression for the release of LD video, for example? Something like #releaselyingdownvideo #justiceforlyingdown

I would love it if we — as Celine’s hardcore fans — could bring the Courage album back to life! To get them to release a new single / the Lying Down music video would be absolutely phenomenal.

To watch a new single from Courage hit #1 on iTunes would get a ton of media attention. :D

Who’s gonna get this ball rolling for us? It should be a fan who watched / studied how the Lambs did it so successfully for Mariah. Or how the Brit fans achieved it.

That’s something I hadn’t considered... the album cover looks very questionable too, so if the LD video was even close to that level of imagery that would be an excellent reason to drop it. If no one with Sony thought twice about her image before OK’ing a music video with possible satanic references, then that backs up what I said : they don’t know what they’re doing.

Lots of music videos get shot and don’t get released, or should I say it’s not uncommon.

Hope she gets asked about it. Plus if a song is flopping, I don’t see any reason not to release a music video. It won’t make it flop harder...plus it would have more views than the audio most likely

yep that is true, i remember that interview! she was wearing a long red dress with long sleeves & turtleneck n the interview, & she mentioned how much she LOVED the video & was excited about it!

& if my memory serves me right, she also did a very similar interview about the "encore un soir" video back in 2016... she was also very 'EXCITED' about that video too, & just like "lying down", that video NEVER saw the light of day either...

hmmm is it just me or is there a coincidence going on with those 2 videos? ***fingers tapping head in thinking mode lol***

😕😏

hey does anybody know how to start a new topic?

i want to do a 'survivor' game topic for each celine album, both english & french, starting from "unison" all the way down to "encore un soir", in chronological order (since lets face it, its most likely gonna be a VERY LONG TIME before we see or hear celine again because of this pandemic & lockdowns,) so i think this could give us fans something to do & discuss while waiting for concerts to start up again...

i am just hoping that concerts will be back by the time we finsh "encore un soir" lol! 🙏😊

Maybe the scenery was not meant to represent mars, but rather hell. And she was supposed to represent the devil or a lost soul suffering in hell (would fit with the song, the way she was styled and with her make up). Maybe they wanted to shock on a big scale to draw attention, but it turned out too crazy and they didn't dare to release it. Edited by ryba

who really cares what others think! if other singers fan can do it, than why not us "celiniacs", or "chesternuts", or "carebears", or whatever the heck us fans are called ("celiniacs" is what i have seen on twitter in recent years, "chesternuts" is something i read on facebook a looong time ago lol... & "carebears" is something i am reading on this forum now, but idk if that is only for the members OF THIS FORUM or just all "celine fans" in general lol... idk CANT keep up with all of these fan nicknames lol but whatever, its all in fun haha!) 😜😂

Gloria Estefan’s fans recently got her 1998 dance album, “gloria!,” to go up to #1 on the iTunes Dance chart, too.

I first heard it on Larry King Live back in 2013 (it was also the only time. I never knew her fans would call themselves like that). But before that, there was the website Celine Maniacs with realy awesome content, and I think "Celiniac" derived from that. I prefer Celine Maniacs though. Edited by ryba

I have more confidence that she would answer, but less confidence that she would get asked. After all, it's not as controversial a topic as, say, the Phil Spector recordings...which, thank God, someone asked her about once.

Someone asked about the Spector recordings? When? What did she say?
