scielle Posted November 28, 2019 at 03:48 PM Posted November 28, 2019 at 03:48 PM She pre-recorded so many interviews, wondering if they will put it out soon?A live special of the new album could be such a nice thing. Or some kind of a holiday special, even if on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Kacey Musgraves just did one for Amazon, why can't Celine?Christmas season is always such a huge uplift for acts like Celine. I mean, look at Buble. He comes out of hibernation every Christmas and rises to top 20 (currently at #14 on Billboard 200, with an album from 2011). 3 Quote

I mean, they just did that Dolly Parton series. Music-based content does well for them, I believe (though hard to say so decisively since they release so little data). But it's begging to be done. She's globally popular at a level few other artists can match, and Netflix is all about having global rights and emerging markets growth now, with US being so saturated, so from a business perspective, getting Celine makes perfect sense. 2 Quote

Only the two movies we have a convo about in the dedicated thread (plus I guess movies heavily tied to her, like the recent ). Nothing to do with Netflix. About 10 posts saying it's boring and dull. Maybe you are the boring and dull one after all. why be personal. I have a right to express views on a new album. However I do resent your personal comments. 1 Quote

Popular Post Ajax Posted November 28, 2019 at 04:03 PM Popular Post Posted November 28, 2019 at 04:03 PM Because she decided that she would do nothing in term of promotion for one week after being sick, touring US and being away from her family. I find it almost rock'n roll. Seriously, I'm a bit shocked how much people feel almost personnally impacted by that. That's at least the way they express themselves. I recognize myself 12 years ago. But there's a point where you grow up and take some distance no ? I really don't care about promotion, I really mean it. I feel ok that she's able at 51 to say no, not this week, I'm done, I need to rest, see my kids, take care of my voice. But She just needs to sing those damn Courage songs in her tour. 9 Quote

Thanks for that, with movies about her, I would love to have one that is aimed on a global level(Those ones seem to be only in French) just like the movie about "Queen" was. I remember how during months, this film was in entertainment reports. That will add Celine more new fans for sure, which is always warm-heart thing to see. Xpresso Posted November 28, 2019 at 04:12 PM Posted November 28, 2019 at 04:12 PM I disagree. Charts are supposed to be about reflecting overall popularity and consumption. And majority of music consumption these days is streaming. It's what saved the music business from totally collapsing.A ticket bundle where you pay for the CD whether you want it or not is perhaps reflective of demand to see the artist, but not of the album itself. (Yes, you have to actively redeem it for it to count towards charts, but you're paying for it as part of your ticket regardless.) Record labels don't even include things like downloads in their forecasts and budgeting anymore, it's such an insignificant part of the business, and declining at 20-40% per year. In most models, physical is not even included, or is assumed to be entirely out of the picture in 3-5 years. (This is my day job, so I am intimately acquainted...)We sign acts all the time now purely based on their streaming revenues, and they increasingly get signed for a certain number of individual tracks, not albums. And most new signings are teenagers who do urban & hop-hop, with pop and rock acts getting dropped. A&R now is all about kids who break out on social media. That's just where the business is at.I totally get that and that's where the industry is heading. But my point is about how fair that is.For example, if 1 person buys a CD it will count as 1 sale even if that persons listens to that CD 5,000 times. With streaming, the same person can listen to an album 5,000 times and ends up being more than 1 CD sold. That's where it doesn't seem fair to me in its accuracy. So it will be more and more difficult for older acts as years go by. 1 Quote

scielle Posted November 28, 2019 at 04:25 PM Posted November 28, 2019 at 04:25 PM (edited) I totally get that and that's where the industry is heading. So it will be more and more difficult for older acts as years go by. Yes, but as I noted in my earlier post in this thread, the 3,750 streams required to equal 1 album sale equates to 188 hours, or nearly 8 full days of streaming (assuming 3-minute songs, and most are longer than that). So each album sale actually counts for a lot. The streaming to album conversion is something that'll always be debatable. But it is what it is. And the idea, from industry perspective, is to reflect roughly the same monetary spend in streaming as one would have with an album sale. Edited November 28, 2019 at 04:30 PM by scielle 1 Quote

I really thought we would see something by now. Well, most movies or series take years to produce. And it's not just about production, it's about the decision to release it at a particular time, or when rights to distribute it become available (e.g. someone else might hold the license). Lots of factors. 1 Quote
