"Courage" album - Official Topic

I am amazed at some of us - the fans - capacity to *CENSORED* and moan and whine and be unpleased and unsatisfied and disappointed and on an on about dead albums, chart drops, perceived bad setlists, perceived bad promotion...

You take to a whole new level, and I wonder if this is really about Celine, or is it just a narcissistic notion "I want whom I am a fan of to be loved by all". Because I do not think this remarkable bitterness is all about Celine.

She is happy, she is satisfied, she is making music she wholeheartedly believe in, she performs songs she likes, and making A LOT OF MONEY in the process.

With all due respect, the hell with whatever whoever else thinks she is supposed to be doing.

She still outsold all artists on Mediatraffic global sales chart with 254,000 units sold. More than her contemporaries like Madonna, Andrea, Cher, Bruce, etc. on their release week. Courage is on par with Pink's last album which sold 257,000 units worldwide in week 1.

Madonna's last album was out of Billboard Top 200 after 3 weeks (and she promoted more than Celine did). So that's what happens to all veteran acts due to lack of streaming. Why is that so hard to understand? That's the new reality.

So what? She had an amazing 1st week and we are proud of her. But now this week is over and it seems that the album will end up a huge flop.

Fans like you is the reason why this forum is like a viper hole. Just like these well-dressed old ladies that go to the church and are super confident that they are the best christians and they will go to heaven and judge all the other people, like "OMG, look at Ms. Rose, she doesn't pray enough, she didn't even donate 20 dollars to the charity, while I donated 100. Poor thing".

agree. This album is a massive flop. It’s also quite dull to listen to.

It has some really nice tracks and I like it much more than the Frankenstein album, TC. But it has no hit-material. All the songs of C are fillers.

I haven't buy the physical album LOL, just digital version, gonna get my CD soon. I love to collect what I like, but I'm not really a collector person, I don't buy her essential collection or any other greatest hits, the only greatest hit I bought only All The Way, I don't feel the need to buy another.

The new album is #1 on Mediatraffic this week!!! Well done Céline!

1 (NE) Céline Dion - Courage 254.000

As a comparison:

Andrea Bocelli 176.000

Madonna - Madame X 216.000

Cher - Dancing Queen 222.000

Bruce Springsteen - Western Stars 228.000

Paul McCartney - Egypt Station 247.000

Céline Dion - Courage 254.000

Pink - Hurts 2B Human 257.000

Amazing result from our queen Céline! So proud of her!

Love this! :D

Yes a lot of money also from us diehard fans who really expected a tour to promote this album. Some of us even ordered multiple tickets and all we get is Vegas/2018 3.0. And your last sentence... Excuse me? Celine knows very well what she does, she is a businesswoman and you don't have to protect her and say go to hell to us fans who feel disappointed or pissed of. Really? Go to hell? Maybe time to take of your pink glasses!

About the chart drop:

Of course we as her dedicated fans want her to succeed as much as possible, but quite honestly, it’s not up to us whether her album remains at #1. It’s Sonys and Celines job to properly promote it. We’ve done our share and made it debute at #1. Now it’s up to them to ensure sustainable success. And they don’t act!

My friends who hate this album at first, now they gave high rate to this album LOL, they have no complain about the album now. Theu only complain about the setlist, about the same set list over and over again, but I'm not gonna go on talk about the setlist since this is thread about Courage album.

I have tried and tried with the album. I find it so dull. I skip most songs.

That's what I'm afraid of too.

That with these sales Sony says 'nevermind' we do some collections we have songs in the vault. Byeee

Or it'll discourage her from recording all together.

I mean, why bother? If nobody's listening? And she doesn't need (or want) the new material to sell hundreds of thousands of tickets, with the set list being what it is?

Could you please elaborate on this? What is the hit-material you are thinking about? Do you mean Hello by Adele is better song than Courage for instance? Or than Imperfections, Perfect Goodbye or Boundaries are worst songs than Lose You to Love Me by Selena? Many of the songs in Courage would be hits if sang by a current young artist, I have no doubt about it (and many of the critics actually stated this). Did you watch AMAs on Sunday? If you tell me that those current "hits" by the younger artists are better than many of the songs in Courage then I must have a very different taste or maybe I'm too old, but what I saw on Sunday was pure crap (apart from Dua Lipa and a couple more).

If you compare the Album with modern and young artists, it is an oasis in the desert, noone can deny that. If you compare it to ANDHC or the 90s album, the 90% of the songs in Courage are like fillers to these albums. And here comes the "the music tastes and sounds have been changing for the past decades" discussion and it is a never ending circle. It is sad to say that many of us (including myself) compare her songs/albums/promo with the 1990-2004 era, which is wrong, I admit it. Maybe we all have to accept that these times are over. We will never have power ballads, hit singles, a good promo, 10+ TV appearances of the "new single of Celine Dion", etc. It is like having an athlete, who won golden medals in the Olympics and now younger athletes took his/her place. On the other hand I cannot accept the argument "yay, Imperfections got 6.000.000 views on YT" or "it is #4 in this radio station or #1 in the dance charts of Congo". This is sad.

I personally don't think that this album contains any fillers at all. This is the very first Celine album that I could listen to from beginning to end without skipping a song.

There are some true gems on that album, like Heart Of Glass or The Hard Way. Even the slower songs like Boundries or Best Of All are quality chill-out songs that I enjoy so much. All the songs are incredibly well produced and sound so proper.

I appreciate this album for 1) it's coherence and theme and 2) for it's great mixture of sounds and styles. It's not a heavy and melancholic album. There is a perfect ballance and you can listen to the album all the time, no matter in which mood you're in, because you will find songs that fit your current mood. I hope she keeps recording albums just like this! And the amount of songs is also amazing (20 songs!!!). It's a rich album and you have enough material to listen to for a long time. It doesn't get boring so fast.

But I agree, we have 21 new songs. No covers, no duets. I am happy about it. I also agree that this album has coherence and it is not a mixtape of random sounds, like TC or LMBTL. But I have somehow the feeling that the majority of the songs are fillers. After 3 weeks of listening to it, I think that CMM and HOG are the tracks that are vocally amazing.

ANDHC is the definition of an album with a few hit potential and great songs with the rest being fillers. No matter what she does at this point, no hit potential songs will become a hit because she's 51. Courage is an amazing, a lot better than some of her previous albums, even some from the 90's. LTAL is actually FILLED with fillers, just look at the streams of the album tracks compared to MHWGO.

And also, since you can't be satisfied with "it is #4 in the dance charts of Congo", perhaps you should stop ignoring the fact that she just achieved her 5th number one album on the BILLBOARD TOP 200.

Maybe she goes back to the top 40 in the third week, we have the Thanksgiving parade and she goes back to doing shows, maybe people don't rescue her albums, it's a hope.

What I find strange is that people don't seem to want to rescue your album, have they lost interest in your new songs ??

So obviously you don't watch any interview she does. Because she repeated many times that she was tired to sing the same old songs again and again. But she does it to please the crowd.

So, no, according to Celine's own words, she doesn't perform songs she likes.

The album has flopped. It’s dull and boring with poor tone. I’ve removed it from my car. First celine album I’ve done it with. It’s just not a patch on others. Sorry it isn’t. Six years for that ?! And now a world tour which is Vegas on wheels x

The songs are dull so similar. The worse is baby. It’s absolute tosh x worse celine album ever. Period

Your opinion. There is NO album that doesn't have any fillers! But IMO C has much more fillers than ANDHC or LTAL. Moreover, everyone will laugh at her, if C drops like 100 places in BB200. This #1 album is great, I am happy for it and it proves that the brand name "Celine Dion" is still able to sell 200K PHYSICAL copies, but she will be a JOKE the following week(s). Besides the #1 position was also luck. If she had released it one week later or earlier, she would have been #2 or #3.

Jav got banned, because of some people here thought that he doesn't fit to their positivity-utopia with his messages. He may write only with prior notice. This is fascism, in my opinion. Are you happy, dear Unicorn-fans?
