Hopefully someone will share "soul" with us since my deluxe cd won't get here until December - I can't buy it from iTunes Japan since I'm in the US

You can buy it on cdjapan, they ship worldwide

Céline insinuated that if you play the album backwards you'll hear "devil"... in a podcast called "q" (I think??)

And she also gave the interviewer the finger in the interview. :sofunny:

So fun! She seems really down to Earth and answers really well to each questions… only a few singing answers.

(sorry if this already been mentioned)

Well, there's a whole topic about it, so yes. :-D (It first aired on the Q radio show, and then on The National (CBC's nightly newscast) in video form a while later.

There's even a This Hour has 22 Minutes parody (here).

How do you wanna that she sings the new songs of the album if it doesn't come out yet, think people.🤦

I'm baffled... I understand its your opinion, but saying its the worst song of her career because she swears and the melody is 'too current' is really just an excuse.. Sounds like you just don't want her to grow as an artist imo, and also rene's mentality wasnt healthy!

I just want to say that I’m glad that Celine is branching out and is exploring new territory, I certainly want her to remain successful and most importantly fulfill her artistic desires.

That being said, Perfect Goodbye is ABSOLUTELY the worst song of her repertoire. I may be in the minority on this one but from what I can see I’m far from being alone on it too. The whole song is ABSOLUTELY designed to be a shock to the fans on purpose. It does not represent artistic growth for me in any way. I listen to Pink, Avril Lavigne and Lil Wayne on occasion. These people can make PG look like Sunday church choir. But I know what to expect when I buy their music, that means I’m in a certain mood. On the flip side, I listen to Celine when I need a safe haven, to brighten up my day, to cancel out any stress that was imposed on me throughout the day. So when after a long wait and lots of false hope from the first four tracks I turn on the CD and I hear THIS!! You have to understand, this is highly upsetting to a lot of people. Again by no means do I want to restrict her artistic aspirations (especially if she executive produced the whole thing). However as much as y’all will disagree with me, Celine has a responsibility to maintain her brand. The whole “I don’t have to prove anything anymore and just do this for fun” idea is just small talk and I’m not buying it for a second. If not, then why sing any old hits during the tour at all?? This to me feels like deliberate and gross disregard for the legacy she and Rene worked so hard to build.

Was trying to keep it short and failed miserably lol. Anyway my point is, you can evolve as an artist without stepping on the core fan base who’s been there for you for decades. If you like the song so much, by all means sing it in the shower or maybe release it as one-off. But having it as an album closer just makes me want to throw up.

On a positive note, I finally brought myself to listen to all the songs over again and a few did stand out in a good way. Will be happy to share my view once the album is out, if the mods don’t kick me out by then LOL

I don’t even know how s*** is considered explicit.

Right?

I'm just... flabbergasted by the reaction.

Sorry, this is such an over-reaction that I'm torn between laughing or rolling my eyes. Maybe I'll just do both simultaneously.

Haha, you summarized it perfectly.

Haven't heard the song yet so will refrain from commenting on its quality otherwise, but I'm 100x more shocked by that reaction, than by the lyric.

All this because a lyric includes the word "s***"?!

Wow. I knew some Celine fans were prudes, but my, this is a whole other level. I truly can't believe what I just read.

Nope, has nothing to do with the language. I’ve already mentioned that I listen to Pink and Lil Wayne. Has to do with the dark tone of the lyrics and glamorizing negative emotions which is so beneath Celine in my opinion.

I’m pretty sure a lot of fans feel the same way, but are hesitant to express their feelings because they don’t want to be attacked and called prudes LOl 😆

I actually like the word s*** in the song, makes the song better! Lol

That's because if the word were replaced by something else, it wouldn't be the same. PG is such a magical song, both musically and lyrically. I wouldn't change it for anything.

I’m terms of the word usage of s***, it’s obviously tastefully done and makes the song better more feeling to the lyric and less cheesy ( if that makes sense). I think you’ll like that song a lot.

Huh?

Haven't heard the song, but having read the lyrics, I don't see where or how it in any way "glamorizes negative emotions". Quite the opposite, in fact.

You listen to Lil Wayne and this you consider “Perfect Goodbye” dark and negative??

Didn't she like sing À la plus haute branche on tour before Encore Un Soir was released?

It's not impossible to sing new stuff...

Though this tour may make you think so.

Why not? What does one have to do with the other? Plenty of artists perform unreleased songs in their sets on a regular basis.

Next order of business, now that Celine uses the word S.H.I.T in a song; how about we abolish the censorship of the word here on the forum with the “ * “ Edited by Nmj

In essence, it is a breakup song. ''Let's save this love before we go and hurt it'' is such a healthy mentality. Letting the relationship end at its peak - avoiding degradation. I see nothing negative in this. If only people were that mature when it came to dealing with dead-end situations. Edited by LukeD

Was magical to hear it in concert. I'm so thankful she did that. Still one of my all-time favorite Celine songs. It's just so beautiful.

If you like that song, as do I, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by “Perfect Goodbye”, it’s oddly similar to me.

Will be happy to. And thank you for actually taking the time to read my comments by the way 👍

Obviously the lyrics are very abstract and may be interpreted in many different ways. When I first heard the song, what really grabbed my attention was: “don’t need to understand if God’s got a plan”, “it’s out of our hands”, “after midnight”, “if you need me, I’ll be in your memory” and “let’s save this love before we go and hurt it”. What kind of omen is this? I was like: is this about two people saying goodbye or about witch craft??? The way she sings it only adds to the agony, very loud and deep and generic, rather than soft and emotional. The ghostly wind at the end... I mean the whole this is just messed up

Again, I RESPECT individual opinions, all I’m doing is sharing mine. After all wouldn’t it be boring to see 50 comments and they’re all the same?

So, thinking about this again as I listen to the full album for I think the 5th time since Friday, I wanted to call out my highlights...

I can't quite describe how I feel about Heart of Glass - it has clicked with me more than any other song, I cannot get it out of my head. When I listen to it on full-blast, with my headphones on, it's simply awesome - I love the layered vocals so much on the latter half of the song, I just wish she would've finished with some big notes. It's otherwise perfect IMO and is fast becoming a favourite of mine.

And Boundaries is simply stunning - I really love it, her vocals are amazing. I know I've already said it, but Moccio outdid himself with his two tracks (this, and Courage). I hope she works with him again - he's behind three terrific songs: A New Day Has Come, Courage and Boundaries.

I Will Be Stronger - "and tonight I have all I need, I got forgiveness; I'm feeling different, tonight I will be stronger. I didn't ask to be set free, but in my hour of weakness..." the way she sings that is SO good and the way she then brings it in towards the end with those beautiful head voice notes. And how she sings "it's not the end..." at the end >>>

How Did You Get Here is simply amazing - I love the backing vocals that reinforce the "how did you" part and the "oooohhhh" parts, they add so much to the song. This was soulful Celine, it's such an earworm. I love this so much.

Look At Us Now is just insane, I don't think she has ever done anything like this before - certainly nothing I can immediately recall, the backing vocals are again a highlight (they come in at the right time and don't overshadow), the "LOOK AT US NOW!!!" parts are mighty and would brilliantly support a gospel choir as I mentioned above. And also, it's clear where that awkward couple of seconds in Carpool Karaoke came from.

Change My Mind is awesome, awesome and awesome some more! The vocals are insanity.

And I need to stop as I will otherwise write about the whole album again. I'm going to say it - easily her best effort since A New Day Has Come and I am really interested to see what the professional reviews look like. It's absolutely not a ground-breaking record by any stretch, but it's definitely a new side of Celine IMO and I couldn't be more delighted with what we've ended up with.

Thanks for this, it's refreshing to find someone with similar sensitivities as mine. I don't feel like I have to write a review myself now. I suppose since your first review you have become aware that Change my Mind is an LP song? Absolutely inspired and commendable choice. Should be a single. And so many people here hating on Best of All? I adore that song. Thanks again,

That is correct. I didn’t say Lil Wayne was bubbly and cheerful. I’m just saying if I’m in a mood for a strong drink I’m gonna go with Tequila. But when I want a milk shake I don’t expect to get drunk

Actually when I was in Rome, I did get drunk off of a milk shake. It was hilarious 😆 But I digress
