This new album has taught me that I had no clue what I really wanted from Celine.

I always thought that I wanted her to work with producers like David Foster who would bring out perfection in Celine. Soaring vocals. Fluid tone. No strange pronunciation / diction issues. But Celine's been there / done that / shattered ceilings / broken records and proven to the world over & over that she's more than capable of perfection.

We've also seen that she is STILL capable of sounding like her iconic self. Just listen to many of the performances of The Prayer on the Courage tour, for instance.

 

But with this album, we got something different.

Now Celine's purposefully shining light on her imperfections and that makes this album... Perfect.

Celine is clearly at the center of this album. The song choices. The delivery / interpretation.

Her vocals are all so honest -- but still with hints of classic Celine style and mind blowing moments.

 

Before, with her past English albums, it was a more manufactured image / sound. And I always luuuuuurved how she was able to sound so darn crystalline and powerful.

But this album is personal. Raw. Real. It's completely her.

We've never had that before and how lucky are we to have it now?

This album is as Celine Dion as it gets.

I'm proud of her her. I'm happy for us. And I hope that general fans, who perhaps haven't bought a Celine album since A New Day Has Come or earlier, will find Celine again with this beautiful, personal new album. People understand that Celine's been through a lot of pain over the past few years, so they'll know the delivery of these songs is coming from an honest place.

 

I understand why the Courage tour is designed the way it is -- to please the masses. But perhaps Celine can do a One Night Only concert of her new songs. Like Annie Lennox did a few years ago with her album Nostalgia. That way, we'll always have at least one live performance of each new song.

'The Hard Way' and 'Heart Of Glass' are bombs, I wanted to shout and applaud while listening to them. 'The Chase' is bright. And I do not understand why many do not like 'Lovers Never Die' ... For me, this song is powerful and sung in an extraordinary way. She reminds me of the irreverent side of Amy Winehouse. It could be a song that would convince non-converts.

 

I also find that the texts are deeper, more subtle and original. They offer once again a great theme of substance, which she had never done on these English albums. It was worth it to take her time to offer us this little gem. This time, no filling song, no song to satisfy others, to convince. There is a real risk here, more successful than 'Taking Chances' and 'Loved Me Back To Life' which were sometimes made of concession ... of half-assumed risks. She was pleased, she went to the end of his idea and that is understood.

 

In short, an artistic renaissance for me! As I said at the beginning, it's been a long time since I've listened to Celine Dion in my headphones and put a song on repeat. This time, the album is running in a loop and not just one song!
