Yup. It just feels so different from all her previous works. This album really showcases the wide spectrum of celine's vocal ability. Her voice so rich and thick and raw yet vulnerable at the same time. Still very agile and fluid but there's much to it now. More sincere and honest.

 

It's weird I even like how she doesnt really pay attention to her pronunciation. I thought It lends more authenticity to the lyrics and to her interpretation.

 

I agree with that. I’m always concerned about prononciation but this time it feels a bit different. Not that her prononciation is worst than usual on the contrary but those imperfections here and there as well as the deep voice doesn’t sound exactly the same. Cause for once she has a better material. The orchestrations, lyrics, production, but also the lounge, retro or folk vibes makes the whole thing more alive. Her voice has never sound that sincere and rich also cause the music is deeper, more free and alive

That s also what I think. And I did not understand this leak debate. That s maybe where I’m wrong but I thought that 10 days or 2 weeks I don t know is almost the normal laps time for a leak no ? I was even surprised that it did not leak before.

 

5 days or 2 weeks is just how it works now no ? Why such a big deal ?

 

I’m not saying it s bad or good but That s how it is. And Sony or Celine knows that and it won t change anything cause it s like this for what ? More than 10 years ?

 

I thought I was back in the 90s when I saw some reactions.

Ok ok thanks. I do not follow major releases and honestly thought that everything was available everywhere around 2 weeks 5 days before the release.

They are really good! Her pronunciation a bit better on those 4. The Hard Way could pass for a 90s celine. Very technically impressive. And very difficult to sing! G5 galore. 😹

 

I’ve just realised I only have the 16 track version so I haven’t even heard all the songs yet!! Can’t wait to hear the others! Wooo!

This album is really unprecedented for Celine as this is the very first time in her English (or even French, correct me if I'm wrong) discography that her album is dominated by songs that are predominantly dark in tone and sad in nature (either due to a loss, coming from a heartbreak, dealing with insecurities, etc)... Even if some of the songs conclude in a positive, uplifting, empowering tone, they all started in or involved, even in small part, a story of sadness or struggle.

 

This is so unlike her past albums which were all predominantly about perfect (sometimes cheesy) love, falling in love, and about hope and joy.

 

Which is why I really really like and have high respects for this album because this is a side of Celine we rarely see in her music and a road she rarely takes (or never has taken) before.

 

I classified all the 20 songs into two categories and realized only around a quarter of them was about the typical "love theme" that she used to sing, while the remaining 3/4 of them all have themes i mentioned above (sadness, pain, struggle, insecurities etc).

And besides, those same "friends" won't be buying or streaming the album anyway even if they got it on the actual day of release. Point is, whether they hear it as leak or officially from the album, they won't buy it or stream it on loop if they don't like it. And they are obviously not Celine's target market.

 

Actually the difference is as follows:

 

- during the release week those same people would have streamed it - maybe only once - by pure curiosity (as it does “not cost anything” due to the streaming pricing)

This would have counted for chart purpose

 

- now they have listened to the leak version and not like the album they will not stream it.

 

Conclusion : that same number of lost streams.

After listening to the album a few times now I can confirm that for me FOMO does not belong on the album. It should have been a "surprise release" just like what they did for "Recovering".

I wonder if they'll make any changes to the release, it was leaked 12 days before it even came out. That's insane to me. People really suck and ruined it.

That's the whole point. The leak won't have such a big financial impact, as it won't make a huge different selling 100K or 120K, but 2K less can mean debuting at #1 or #5 nowadays. We were all worried because a November release would mean tougher competition, but she has been lucky enough to not having any big names against her on Nov 15 (unless Adele does a surprise release). A #1 album means also free publicity as all news would report it "Celine Dion first number 1 since 2002..." and this would help to keep the momentum in the second week. If a person takes the effort to actually search the leaked album that person has an interest on the album, so without the leak that would have probably meant a new stream on Friday 15. Also fans, even though they claim they will stream the album on the 15 it won't be at the same level as many have been listening to it for two weeks already. And this also kills their strategy. They had planned listening parties. Fans would go and then they would give her reviews, building anticipation, what's the point now? To me is really annoying, but maybe is only me that really want this album to do well (which of course would mean more videos, more cool writers and producers wanting to work with her in the future. etc etc)

I'm sure the naysayers are right, and this album is going to plummet off the charts faster than any album that ever came before it.

The pronunciation is really distracting on this album along with the messy vocals. It doesn't sound free to me, it sounds sloppy, which is one thing I can't stand no matter whose voice it is... same reason I couldn't stand Ariana's concert live.

 

But anyway, does anyone know when/how we will be able to claim our free albums for the North American ticket purchases?

Absolutely! That's the first thing that came to my mind when I first heard it.

 

By the way, it's obvious that "Baby" was written by Sia: the first sentence of the song is the same as the first sentence of Sia's "House On Fire"

I myself am too one of those downloaders before the official album release but make sure to buy the physical album if I REALLY like to love it!

After listening to the whole album, I think in terms of quality since Love me back to life, it WORTH IT!

It reminds me a lil bit A new day has come album but with much more different music style :-)

To comeback with this album is AWESOME but she made us, fans, to wait too loooong!!!

But what makes me yak is her voice...

Her voice timber changed so~so much!!!

There's no longer her crystal clear voice that we used to hear on her 90s albums :-(

It's always the standard. Found my email, says it will be mailed on release day and arrive 7-10 business days after.

I really feel hopeful. I mean, in spite of plenty of us who don't really like imperfection as much, it is on the path to be her highest charting AC single since Have you ever been in love. And that's nice, no matter how you spin it IMO. What do you think Celine's Team should do to capitalize on this?

Ho but I totally understand your point. Her prononciation and "chewing gum" sound has been a problem for me also for years now. It is present on this album, for sure.

I just feel that, as a whole, this album screams authenticity, something that never applied to her other albums, something that we always reproached her. As explained above the production, the folk/vintage vibe, the production, accompany that better than ever. It's raw. When I hear Perfect good bye I even tend to think that it is a committed position, sounds weird to say that but the whole thing sound singular, and maybe it wouldn't be the same if we wouldn't have those what I call then; singularities. Welle that's it. But of course in general that's a concern for me and we can hear it here.

 

For the messy vocals, I can also understand For the same reasons as above, it's less polished and she mixes her voice more than before for sure. I'm ready for a change, that's part of the new approach, the whole Courage thing. She kills it in my opinion.

That’s my take. I don’t really like the pronunciation on this album...The songs are amazing, but her singing habits truly take away from some of them. For The Lover That I Lost is a prime example. And I think she too much tries to mimic Sia’s way of singing on the Sia-penned songs.

 

Like, her crystal clear 90s pronunciation would have sounded so nice on this album. Compare how she sounded on the song “All the Way” to some of what she is doing here.
