Ajax Posted November 5, 2019 at 01:56 PM Posted November 5, 2019 at 01:56 PM (edited) The orchestration for Perfect goodbye is just the closest to what I dreamt for. It is so haunting and cinematic, mysterious while still discreet. My only snag would be on some parts where she sounds a bit clogged/too deep but even that contributes to the magic. that makes the whole thing so singular, deep and theatrical. Never heard such a raw emotion in her voice in English really. I wish that even the people who won’t like this album will be able to recognize that still, it is her best material to date in English. 😁 I quite have a low appreciation of her catalog so it is not such a masterpiece but it s finally getting good and it s the first time ever that yes she got out of her confort zone in some way. I love that the supposed Play me like a love song is not here. She clearly got ride of all her Signature orchestral generic ballad. There s not even one. The closest to her old material may be the song Courage. I have some critics like the whole thing still sounds a bit too predictable, songs remains like... too clean. I miss time, music, impro, a little bit a of crazyness. It s the album where her voice is the most free also. I love that. I mean. FINALLY. Like FINALLY ! Well done Celine. Someone like you is a good song. But perfect goodbye is way more cinematic and I would say, weirder which is good. It has this Lynch or Burton feeling. Can t compare both in my opinion. Quote

Ukrfan Posted November 5, 2019 at 02:07 PM Posted November 5, 2019 at 02:07 PM Overall, I consider this her best album since Taking Chances (including the french ones) . Although I kinda liked Sans Attendre and EUS, only parts of them were modern. Courage, on the other hand, is full of cool modern songs. Definitely a step into the right direction . I guess my favorites are Change My Mind, Nobody's Watching, and Heart of Glass. However, I haven't heard any bonus tracks besides Heart of Glass yet, so maybe it will change. I also like the cover and CD style. What I don't like is Celine's pronunciation. It is not only about her accent, but the way she pronounces words. I would call it "lazy pronunciation", when she sounds as if she has a chewing gum while singing, and "swallows" some words. To be honest, this irritates me This is especially noticeable in Sia's songs. I wonder if the reason for that was Celine trying to imitate Sia's accent and style. Quote

My only "complaint" is that I wish it was longer. I fell asleep with this song in my mind yesterday. So I woke up and just had to listen to it. Her voice and the music are a perfect blending. And her voice is crystal clear! Also Change My Mind is one of my favorites which I didn't expect because I don't like LP so much,.And I LOVE The Perfect Goodbye, wow, so different and mysterious. The piano sounds if it was recorded in a big space like a church and reminds me a little of the organ part in the soundtrack from the movie Interstellar. But I love every single song on the album and some songs are getting better to me everyday!Only song I don't like so much is Say Yes. It has really beautiful lyrics, but in my opinion the instrumental/melody is very boring.. Edited November 5, 2019 at 02:28 PM by Leanne 3 Quote

I particularly love the last verse/chorus of the song. "So stayCause there’s something about the chaseThat’s got you running through my mind all dayAnd I can’t keep upCause I’m still reveling in the rush I wish you, I wish you’d stayI might run, but won’t walk awayYou keep making my heart raceTill I can’t keepI’ll be reveling in the rush of the chase I wish you’d stayOh stay, oh stayStayI wish you, I wish you would" This song could have been called "Stay" though, lol. Can someone say here I prefer A new day has come or Taking chances but the album Courage is certainly her best/most/adventurous material to date because of the production because of the direction, because of the coherence because she got out of her confort zone for the first time ever and for also the first time ever it s not just a talk, because there s no covers, because she clearly decided to not put even one generic orchestral ballad while she must have received a lot but preferred to express her loss with songs such as Perfect goodby. She got courage and the result is good. I feel like sometimes I’m the only one to think this way or to dissociate my own Tastes to what I think is more objective. And say I love it but this is s***. I hate it but this is good. Understand what I mean ? I can’t discuss the fact that people love A new day has come or Taking chances better by their own taste and feelings. But in term of artistry and what said above I have difficulties to accept that some people think A new day has come or Taking chances are better. Am I the only one also to sometimes place the approach above the final result ? Like the fact that her signature songs did not make the final cut just make me love this album. And the fact that they put I surrender next to At last, Rain Tax, ten days super love and Nature boy makes me hate A new days has come because the approach stinks commercial prostitution and compromise over artistry and guts ? Don t know 😁😏 Edited November 5, 2019 at 02:29 PM by Ajax 2 Quote

Their marketing blitz for Celine up until after ANDHC was stellar. Don’t say they never did anything right by Celine, because she was ALL. OVER. THE. PLACE. She would be on Rosie O’Donnel’s Show and Jay Leno multiple times a year throughout the 90s. She goes down in history as the one person who made the most appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The print ads in magazines and in store posters were more than plentiful. CBS TV specials galore. She was well taken care of in her prime, when it was most important to establish her to the masses. Which is what Sony does now for their most popular and current top 40 artists. 2 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay

Hence my ‘titanic’ reference; because arguably after the 90s they haven’t done s***, she’s been selling her work based on her name. 1 Quote

If you end up being bored and only stream the songs once in a while on the streaming platforms it really does nothing for Celine or the album itself. As I said, I have to open separately files to listen to the songs. So usually (when for example I walk or when I'm on my bike like today) I listen to my best of Céline on iTunes which include more than 130 songs (including 3 times Courage, Imperfections and Lying down, as I want to hear them more than the others ahahah). From the 15th of November, I will listen ONLY the whole album (maybe the only song I will sometimes skip will be Flying on my own ahah), on repeat, always, just like I do for my Céline's best of. So for me at least it won't change. But I don't know if it counts on iTunes? When we download/buy a song, it doesn't matter how many times we listen to it, or?... I don't know how it works. 1 Quote ***I speak French, sorry for my mistakes in English.
