"Courage" album - Official Topic

As I continue to listen to the album from start to finish on repeat for the 2nd day, I keep falling more in love with this album. Celine's delivery on this album is soulful in a way I haven't heard before. The entire album also has a feel, a mood, and returning to it over the years will bring that back each time. This is quickly becoming a top 3 album for me and it has exceeded my expectations.

As for FOMO, I kind of enjoy it as an opener. The last lines of the song... "on the winds of change", is like a literal opener for the rest of the album. Glad they didn't put it somewhere in the middle because that would not have worked at all.

As I said, I have to open separately files to listen to the songs. So usually (when for example I walk or when I'm on my bike like today) I listen to my best of Céline on iTunes which include more than 130 songs (including 3 times Courage, Imperfections and Lying down, as I want to hear them more than the others ahahah).

From the 15th of November, I will listen ONLY the whole album (maybe the only song I will sometimes skip will be Flying on my own ahah), on repeat, always, just like I do for my Céline's best of.

So for me at least it won't change. But I don't know if it counts on iTunes? When we download/buy a song, it doesn't matter how many times we listen to it, or?... I don't know how it works.

On iTunes it only counts one time, the time you buy it. I was talking about the people who will be using streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, YouTube music etc. Each listen there counts as a stream, and a certain amount of streams ends up being equivalent as 1 album sold.

I just know from myself that if I listen way too much now to something, even if I still love it on the 15th I will be much less enthusiastic, therefore less streams

The people in here who are playing and replaying the leaks, are you sure that in 10 days from now you'll still have the same passion of hitting the repeat button endlessly on the streaming platforms on the 15th as you are doing now?

Of course, when it comes to me, listening to this album before the premiere, I do it as if "on credit", and I used to pay off my debts. That is why on the day of release (and many many days later) I will be streaming this album like crazy :) And I'm pretty sure that many people here are planning exactly the same :)

I'm gonna do the same. I'll put it on repeat on Spotify as soon as it's released and just let it play for a week or two. ^_^

Agreed! It's definitely very soulful. More soulful than we've ever heard. With each listen I adore it more. I'm trying not to listen too much so I don't overdo it before all the streaming on release day but it's so hard. It's addicting

As much as I thought FOMO didn't really fit the whole soulful vibe the rest of the album has (poppy-techno feel w/the music/arrangement, etc.) those last couple of lines do set the rest of the album up. I hadn't thought about that. And it does work there in that regard. She's definitely been through a lot of change these last few years and this album is reflective of that, in a good way.

Some additional thoughts: I think staying in her lower register, most of the time, not all of time, works for the soulful feel it has. I also think, when trying to appeal to the masses in this day and age (she's already proven ten times over she can SING) it makes her more human, more relatable. The fact that the word s*** appears in one of her songs (never thought I'd see the day....).

To me it all goes with her new post-Rene persona: stronger, more decisive/involved than ever before, courageous....fashion icon. Her brand and everything she's been in the past will still remain but it's time to move on to something different. It's not who she is anymore. Her whole life, her whole world, was turned completely upside down when Rene passed away. She may still be navigating her way through it but so far I think she's been doing great with finding herself, her true self, and figuring out where that puts in the world, the industry, etc. It's like she said after Vegas ended: "Rene will always remain but I want to keep the strength I've found...." (can't remember the exact wording). As fans, we need to understand, she's not going to keep doing the same thing she has in the past. Yes, that's what made us fans initially. But she's expanding and trying new things. Personally, I love that. I'd get bored with the same-old stuff, different song....and as the artist, she has to be bored with it too.

Well she is still doing the same songs even in her new tour.

Is nobody gonna talk about the random voice of a woman that can briefly be heard in the last part of Heart of Glass at 2:36 you can hear something like "uhm"... Hahaha was that a glitch? Or was that Sia's spirit trying to get out hahaha... Edited by marc-02

This is more in regards to the album itself. I can't really speak as to what's up with the tour. I don't really get that. I understand certain hits will always be there. They have to be. But I do really wish some of these would find their way into the show. Maybe they will and they just haven't yet. The way she changes her mind all the time, who knows. But this is the album thread so I'll save this for a different discussion.

Use Spotify better that way each listen will count as one stream : ) I usually don't buy iTunes album but the physical copy and then I use Spotify to listen to it all the time, that way you keep helping the album (in some small way)

All i can say is this is Celine's best english album ever. Such coherence and the production is topnotch. No fillers. This is quality music. 20 carefully chosen quality tracks! We are not deserving!

I never thought i'd say this but celine's mature voice really fits all the songs to a T. Such a gorgeous voice. Not as polished as it used to in the 90s but has character and more believable nuances now. I am actually happy her voice is what it is now when she recorded these songs.

Whoever dares say she is not an artist, but merely a singer, just needs to listen to the entirety of this album. Celine is an artist through and through. This album is proof she doesn't need to write songs to be called an artist.

If there was an oscar for the most emotive interpretation of any song, celine, on this album, would easily win it.

What I don't like is Celine's pronunciation. It is not only about her accent, but the way she pronounces words. I would call it "lazy pronunciation", when she sounds as if she has a chewing gum while singing, and "swallows" some words. To be honest, this irritates me  This is especially noticeable in Sia's songs. I wonder if the reason for that was Celine trying to imitate Sia's accent and style.

I was just thinking the same thing.

This album just like her fashion or gender clothing line, is going to split the fan base. I personally adore her artistry with this new album and it’s definitely some of her best work for me in a long time; better than TC, better than LMBTL, etc.

If you are for development and artistry, growth and deep lyrics with current vibes along with so much feeling; you’ll love this album.

If you are for hearing cheesy songs, or popular cover songs, or karaoke light hearted stuff, stay away from it and buy the “Miracle” album.

Her vocals on this whole album are painful to listen to, even vs. Encore Un Soir from a couple years ago.

I think there is something wrong with your ears, cause there is nothing missing on this record regarding vocals..

Ok, I listened again and there's a couple spots where I hear the "uhm" sound I think you're referencing.....I think it's just they way she's singing.....like where'd you'd an add "oohh" or some sort of little riff.....I think it's just how she's singing.

I have to be honest, I agree with the fact there is a lack of technic and if you mix the throaty/gloaty/nasal voice with autotune and weird filters... it sounds on very rare moments awful, there are few songs which are not hearable, like The hard way, with a hard way to sing

These comments are making me a little worried. I hope I end up as one of those who like the songs and the way she sings them.

On the other hand, if I don't, it's not the end of the world.

The album is fresh, modern, in adequation of our time but the work of Gatica, please, is a big joke, he played with voice filters which sound so bad

I love SSFD but from what I've heard from Courage (just a few previews) it seems to me that this new CD is tremendously well produced.

Celine is reinventing herself and that deserves our applause.

Because you know that Gatica is envolved and in which songs ?

This album really encompasses her actual voice. Sometimes it even sounds a bit experimental. Celine s voice is not “normal”, it s complex, deep, singular, and I would say it s not one voice, she can play with it like nobody else. I don t always like the result. But that s again exactly why I love it and why I wouldn’t change it. This is why I spoke about her voice being free. It s her, right now and I love that. It is phenomenal.

So when I originally listened the other night I listened on my phone but today I listened whilst driving to work so I could turn the volume up in the car! Omg it’s just getting better! So different to anything she’s ever done! It’s VERY current and soulful like others have mentioned before! I get sort of like Live Lounge vibes from it too anyone else? Brilliant Celine! Well done!

Yea it's sad that the album will loose much of its momentum this way.

But I am not so sure Céline would care that much though. She doesn't really seem to care about new music. I take she sees this as a "gift for the fans"....

And as many said she doesn't care for sucess anymore (nor does her team I suppose) so they may not mourn this leak.

But maybe I am all wrong about this...

Very disappointing how fast the album is spreading. Team Celine isn't making any money from the leak. All of their promo for the album is sabotaged now that most people have already listened to it. So sad. I can only imagine the stress this is putting Celine through, when she should be focusing mainly on the tour. Makes me very upset, along with all of you happily listening to it. All of the hard work and effort her and her team have put into making it just for someone to leak it for all of you to download. Very disrespectful in my opinion and a big "F you" to Celine.

Lyrics, anyone? :innocent:

LOVERS NEVER DIE

(Johan Carlsson/Ross Golan/Dan Wilson)

You said “forever after”

But what came after that

Wasn’t what I expected

I expected you back

You said that you’re romantic

Where’s the romance in this?

It’s obvious that you’re full of it

I tried to give you time

But then our time slipped away

You said that you’d be fine

But now finally I’m away

You said it’s only happy

But what happened was this

It’s obvious I’m not having it

You say the pretty things you know I like

But I can read between the lies

(Chorus)

If lovers never die

Then why do I need you?

Believe when I see you

Whenever I see you

It kills me inside

Why’d you say goodbye

If lovers never die?

I trust too easily

I trusted you’d treat me well

(?????????)

I’m asking for help

You played the gentleman

But there’s no gentle in this

It’s obvious that you’re full of it

You say the pretty things you know I like

But I can read between the lies

(Chorus)

If lovers never die

Then why do I need you?

Believe when I see you

Whenever I see you

It kills me inside

Why’d you say goodbye

If lovers never die?

It was just a lie

But I survived

Why do you say goodbye

If lovers never die?

(Chorus)

FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN

(Skylar Grey/Elliott Taylor)

When the sun went down on that day

I never thought a love would come back to me

When I closed my eyes and tried to dream

Darkness was the only thing I could see

I had run out of hope

Reached the end of the road

Hit the rocks at the bottom with no further to go

But just when I thought I was destined to end up all alone

You showed me there’s more to this life

(Chorus)

I can’t believe I’m falling in love once again

I can’t believe I’m falling in love

But I am

I never thought that I would be strong enough to move on

Now this wasn’t part of our plan

I can’t believe I’m falling in love once again

But I’m falling in love once again

When you take my hand, you hold my heart

And I know everything will be alright

When you touch me there, I feel it everywhere

I’m loving things I never thought I’d like

(Chorus)

I can’t believe I’m falling in love once again

I can’t believe I’m falling in love

But I am

I never thought that I would be strong enough to move on

Now this wasn’t part of our plan

I can’t believe I’m falling in love once again

But I’m falling in love once again

Just when I thought I was destined to end up all alone

You showed me there’s more to this life

(Chorus)

CHANGE MY MIND

(Yttling/LP/Levine)

We were bold, we were dust, we were energy

We were more in the light than we’d ever been

Effortless dancing with symmetry

And the memories more or less killing me

All of my sirens

Run into your fire

Don’t fight it

(Chorus)

Change my mind

Make me drunk on you again

Turn back time

Don’t you wonder where I’ve been?

Are you ever gonna change my mind?

(Are you ever gonna?)

Change my mind

(Are you ever gonna?)

I’ve been waiting for you

Change my mind

(Are you ever gonna?)

Change my mind

Chant my name

Chant the words to my dying day

But I just seem to keep pushing you away

And it’s all I can do as an optimist

To look out on the shore for our lonely ship

All of my sirens

Run into your fire

Don’t fight it

(Chorus)

Change my mind

Make me drunk on you again

Turn back time

Don’t you wonder where I’ve been?

Are you ever gonna change my mind?

(Are you ever gonna?)

Change my mind

(Are you ever gonna?)

I’ve been waiting for you

Change my mind

(Are you ever gonna?)

Change my mind

(Chorus)

We were bold, we were dust, we were energy

We were more in the light than we’d ever been

SAY YES

(Elofsson/Rodrigues)

You’re pushing love away

When it throws you a rope

You keep turning the pages

Cause you’re losing hope

You always put a cap on your fire

You think that everyone is a liar

You gotta let that thinking go

Stop saying no, no, no

(Chorus)

Say yes

Once more

You deserve to feel that rush again

Say yes

Once more

Let it touch you like it did back then

Remember the good times

Let go of the pain

Say yes

When he wants to talk

You got nothing to say

When wants turns and smiles at you

You turn away

You always put a cap on your fire

Always holding back your desire

You gotta let your feelings show

Stop saying no, no, no

(Chorus)

Say yes

Once more

You deserve to feel that rush again

Say yes

Once more

Let it touch you like it did back then

Oh, remember the good times

Let go of the pain

Say yes (Say yes)

Say yes (Say yes)

Say yes

(Say yes)

Say yes

Remember the good times

Let go of the pain

Say yes

Say yes

NOBODY’S WATCHING

(Elofsson/Rodrigues)

I’ve had it up to here, up to my neck

With everything politically correct

Just want lock myself away

Leave me alone

I’m gonna lay it all out on my hairbrush microphone

I wanna sing like nobody’s listening

I want talk like nobody cares

I wanna party like a believer

I wanna wear whatever I wear

(Chorus)

I wanna dance, dance, dance like nobody’s watching

I wanna dance, dance, dance like nobody’s watching

I wanna dance, dance, dance like nobody’s watching

I wanna dance, dance, dance like nobody’s watching

Nobody…

To much information in my head

I need to disconnect, I’m in the red

Just wanna get my body right back in the zone

Gonna lay it all out on my hairbrush microphone

I wanna sing like nobody’s listening

I want talk like nobody cares

I wanna party like a believer

I wanna wear whatever I wear

(Chorus)

I wanna dance, dance, dance like nobody’s watching

I wanna dance, dance, dance like nobody’s watching

I wanna dance, dance, dance like nobody’s watching

I wanna dance, dance, dance like nobody’s watching

Nobody…

I wanna dance…

Like nobody’s watching

(Chorus)

(Ad lib)

THE CHASE

(Mitchell/Rodrigues/McConnell)

This is from the heart

Ready to let my guard down

Whatever the cost

Keeping it safe you just get locked outside the box

So I’m gonna try my luck on you

This is from a girl

Who still believed that there was someone in the world

To take her at her best and her worst

Won’t give up when it hurts

So I’m gonna try my luck

I’m gonna try my luck, baby

I’m gonna try my luck on you

(Chorus)

Cause I wish you, I wish you’d stay

Cause there’s something about the chase

That’s got you running through my mind all day

And I can’t keep up

Cause I’m still reveling in the rush of the chase

This is for the one always walking to the beat of their own drum

Ain’t afraid to take it as it comes

Yeah, you wanna try your luck

Do you wanna try your luck on me?

(Chorus)

Cause I wish you, I wish you’d stay

Cause there’s something about the chase

That’s got you running through my mind all day

And I can’t keep up

Cause I’m still reveling in the rush of the chase

I wish you, I wish you’d stay

I might run, but won’t walk away

If you keep making my heart race

Till I can’t keep

I’ll be reveling in the rush of the chase

I wish you would

Keep me running, running, running

Searching for that something, something

I think it could be

You and me

So stay

Cause there’s something about the chase

That’s got you running through my mind all day

And I can’t keep up

Cause I’m still reveling in the rush

I wish you, I wish you’d stay

I might run, but won’t walk away

You keep making my heart race

Till I can’t keep

I’ll be reveling in the rush of the chase

I wish you’d stay

Oh stay, oh stay

Stay

I wish you, I wish you would

FOR THE LOVER THAT I LOST

(Smith/Eriksen/Hermansen/Napier)

I think about your lips

And the way they kiss

There’s so much I really miss about you

Sitting on the beach

You were still in reach

And I haven’t felt free without you

All of the memories feel like magic

All of the fighting seems so sweet

All that we were, my love, is tragic

And you’re the last thing that I need

(Chorus)

So I lay a dozen roses

For the lover that I lost

I stand by all my choices

Even though I pay the cost

Oh, all those nights

The lows and highs

I share them all with you

So I lay a dozen roses

I lay them there

I lay them there for you

You’ve been on my mind

Every single night

I can’t visualize life without you

I’ve been trying to go a week

Without losing sleep

But there’s something that I need to go through

All of the memories feel like magic

All of the fighting seems so sweet

All that we were, my love, is tragic

And you’re the last thing I need

(Chorus 2x)

So I lay a dozen roses

For the lover that I lost

I stand by all my choices

Even though I pay the cost

Oh, all those nights

The lows and highs

Yes, I share them all with you

So I lay a dozen roses

I lay them there

I lay them there for you

I lay them there for you

BABY

(Furler/McDonald/Kurstin)

I don't wanna wait too long, wait too long

So what do I do?

I don't wanna take the time to look inside

It hurts when I do

I don’t wanna feel this pain, feel this pain

It burns my eyes through

Crying is the only thing that gets me through

Besides calling for you

Calling for you

Calling for you

Calling for you

I was always calling for you

I’ll be there, yeah-ee-yeah (baby)

I’ll be there, yeah-ee-yeah (baby)

I’ll be there, yeah-ee-yeah (baby)

Come to me

Come to me

I don’t wanna think too much, think too much

But that’s what I do

Missing you is all i know

When you were close I felt every move

No, I don’t wanna feel this pain

I stay up late

(?????????????????)

Crying is the only thing that gets me through

Besides calling for you

Calling for you

Calling for you

Calling for you

I was always calling for you

(Chorus)

I’ll be there, yeah-ee-yeah (baby)

I’ll be there, yeah-ee-yeah (baby)

I’ll be there, yeah-ee-yeah (baby)

Come to me

Come to me

Besides calling for you

Calling for you

Calling for you

Calling for you

(Chorus)

(Ad lib)

I WILL BE STRONGER

(Eg White)

You were always stronger than me

First in the deep end

But then the first to leave

And I have missed you so heavily

But the weight’s kind of lifting

I’m seeing colors in the street

Though I might have been lonely or lost

I don’t feel like giving up

Just because you’ve climbed off (??)

(Chorus)

And tonight I have all I need

I got forgiveness

I’m feeling different

Tonight I will be stronger

I didn’t ask to be set free

But in my hour of weakness

I’ve found a sweetness

Cause sometimes love must die to be born again

One step up a road

It’s not the end

It’s just a moment

No souvenirs

The (??) my shoulder

But honey, you were here

But I know love wins over pride

I won’t outstay my welcome

But love is on my side

(Chorus)

And tonight I have all I need

I’ve got forgiveness

I’m feeling different

Tonight I will be stronger

I didn’t ask to be set free

But in my hour of weakness

I’ve found a sweetness

Cause sometimes love must die to be born again

One step up a road

It’s not the end

And I know we said forever

And I know you left your mark

But you (???) a life worth living

(Chorus)

It’s not the end

HOW DID YOU GET HERE

(Grier/The Stereotypes/9AM/Alcock/Rodrigues/Hazzard/Brock)

I’ve been thinking about you

More than I want to

Spinning me around in this web

Getting in my heart and my head

Hanging on every word

Pretending they go unheard

Wish you didn’t make me so weak

Everytime you speak

But you do

Yes, you do

(Chorus)

I wasn’t looking for love

I was comfortable

How did you get here

(How did you, how did you)

Tell me who let you in

Choke all my confidence

How did you get here

(How did you, how did you)

I can’t fight this feeling

My heart’s too revealing

Even though it’s making me a fool

You cant tell love when to strike or to choose (??)

You’re the one pulling me close

You’re the one that I need the most

I wish you didn’t make me so weak

Every time you’re next to me

But you do

Yes, you do

(Chorus)

I wasn’t looking for love

I was comfortable

How did you get here?

(How did you, how did you)

Tell me who let you in

Choke all my confidence

How did you get here

(How did you, how did you)

How did you scale the walls to my heart

How did you know how to start

How did you get here

How did you get here

(2x)

(Chorus)

(Ad lib)

LOOK AT US NOW

(Jones/Wells/Campbell)

Hard to look at pictures on the wall

Hard to pick the phone up when you call

Hardly talking anymore

Cause a single word could start a war

But once upon a time we had it all

Who would’ve known the future wasn’t for us?

Fools, we got it wrong

Thinking that we’d only love

But look at us now

Look at us now

How can we hold it together

When we’ve fallen apart

Can’t put my finger on the “whether” or the “how”

How can we see to forever

When we’re lost in the dark

You know it’s killing me to say it aloud

Oh, look at us now

Two broken hearts on the ground

Back to back we sleep on separate sides

Back and forth we slowly lose our minds

Backing out of the driveway feels like this goodbye could be for real

Oh, once upon a time

Time was on our side

Who would’ve known the future wasn’t for us?

Fools, we got it wrong, so wrong

How can we hold it together

When we’ve fallen apart

Can’t put my finger on the “whether” or the “how”

How can we see to forever

When we’re lost in the dark

You know it’s killing me to say it aloud

Oh, look at us know

Two broken hearts on the ground

And you can’t even look at me now

Oh, baby, look at us now

Who would’ve known the future wasn’t for us?

Fools, we got it wrong

Thinking that we’d only love

But look at us now

Look at us now

Two broken hearts on the ground

PERFECT GOODBYE

(Wolfgang/Wexler/Sanders)

Twenty-five steps in the same direction

Oh wait, it’s strange

We’re here connecting

Don’t need to understand

If God’s got a plan, it’s out of our hands anyway

No regrets

This is heaven-sent

Look at where we are

It’s amazing

And if you need me

I will be in your memory

(Chorus)

Goodnight, baby

Kiss me now

Don’t make me sad

After midnight

Promise we’ll never look back

This s*** is perfect

Each second worth

Let’s save this love

Before we go and hurt it

Goodnight, baby

Stars in the sky

This is the perfect goodbye

Twenty-five steps in the same direction

Just take my hand

Don’t ask no questions

Don’t need to understand

If God’s got a plan, it’s out of our hands anyway

No regrets

This is heaven-sent

Look at where we are

It’s amazing

And if you need me

I will be in your memory

(Chorus)

Cause I don't want to be here without you

I’d rather just bottle time

Open up the memory

And keep you by my side

I can't believe that I ever found you

Baby, took a look around

Everything is perfect now

(Chorus)

The stars in the sky

This is the perfect goodbye

This is the perfect goodbye

If someone else wants to share the lyrics for the bonus tracks, feel free to do so! :-D

In Perfect Goodbye... I'm hearing 45 steps... Not 25 steps.

Not sure why they would sabotage for their own legend star. But they haven't shown much pride or affection for her since her prime. Maybe she and Rene got into a tug of war about something with them in the past? Perhaps the setteling down with AND in Vegas was that….

I just noticed that Lil Peep is releasing a posthumous compilation album on Nov. 15th. If older tracks count towards the album's total stream count, I'm a little worried since he's a bigger streamer than Celine. Also, it is being released by Columbia too. Why would they give her competition? Ugh.

Now she has to go on another Cover tour or lock herself down in Vegas again to regain the money that is lost....

Yes Celine is stressed. I am sure she is wiping her tears with her money. :sofunny:

That s also what I think. And I did not understand this leak debate. That s maybe where I’m wrong but I thought that 10 days or 2 weeks I don t know is almost the normal laps time for a leak no ? I was even surprised that it did not leak before.

5 days or 2 weeks is just how it works now no ? Why such a big deal ?

I’m not saying it s bad or good but That s how it is. And Sony or Celine knows that and it won t change anything cause it s like this for what ? More than 10 years ?

I thought I was back in the 90s when I saw some reactions.

Yup. It just feels so different from all her previous works. This album really showcases the wide spectrum of celine's vocal ability. Her voice so rich and thick and raw yet vulnerable at the same time. Still very agile and fluid but there's much to it now. More sincere and honest.

It's weird I even like how she doesnt really pay attention to her pronunciation. I thought It lends more authenticity to the lyrics and to her interpretation.

Well done!
