Mariah May have had more number one songs in US, but in terms of live performance revenue; it’s not even close; many thanks to the Vegas shows tho.

Not really true when Celine can still sell out the Tokyo Dome and Osaka Dome 2 nights in both stadiums back during the TCWT. Both were sold out in addition to 2 nights at the Nagoya Dome as well when the Asia Tour was canceled because of Rene's cancer. Meanwhile Mariah can't even sell out an arena and is doing smaller amphitheaters and halls.

 

Here in the States, Mariah hasn't had a successful single or album since I don't know when, nor can she sell out arenas or her Vegas residency either. In terms of popularity or in pop culture, I think they're equally well-known in the U.S, but Celine outsells Mariah in ticket sales and her songs are more iconic. Mariah's only song that non-fans know of hers is AIWFCIY.

Thalía guys, at 47. This song is playing non stop everyday on radios in Spain, and what’s more, is being played on every club and on the top of the most instagramed songs by teenagers.

Céline’s career in radios is an absolute MESS since 2003, and what Sony has done to the few albums she has released since then is shameful.

I haven't kept up with Spanish music for years but from a quick look at Thalia's YT channel it seems she's having a comeback (although I suspect she's being helped by the featuring artists in her new videos), several of her videos before 2018 don't have much views. Good for her that she's having succes.

 

But how is it Celine's fault that she doesn't get radio play? That is not up to her.

Haha well... somehow it is their own fault. There's a reason Celine is on the black list for ages.

Of course Thaliá is being played because:

 

1. Hubby probably paid huge amount and used his connections (as a former Sony CEO that wouldn't be too hard) to push it on the radios.

2. The song is typical generic reggaeton sound that's being played everywhere at the moment.

 

I'm all for Celine exploring and recording something new and modern but I hope she will never record something like this in a desperate attempt to stay current and trendy.

How? I can think a couple of reasons right off my mind to be to blame for this, like:

 

1. Not releasing new music since 6 years ago, and having released only TWO English albums in 12 years, that’s ONE album every 6 years.

 

2. Showing an absolute lack of interest and apathy in promoting her new music when she has an album out, talking about music in her interviews AND promoting new songs in her concerts when she has the chance.

 

Does that say something to you? I think these are more than enough reasons for the radios to pay zero attention to Celine!

Celine's style of music is not appreciated in radios, until the 90's they had a certain "prejudice" for finding her music very "old", even if at that time she reigned absolute and overcame all barriers. More nowadays, her music is considered to be old, she prefers a new, modern, younger sound or a duet with younger and successful artists.

 

Thalia is coming back because she joined a rtista who succeeds on youtube, and streming.

It's also clear that she doesn't like talking about music in interviews when she isn't ready to talk about it, just be patient for a few more months and we'll have new music in July and possibly new interviews

But a French album naturally isn’t gonna sell well in America. I understand the whole music is art thing, and I truly believe it, but naturally, ordinary English people were not just going to run out and get an album full of songs they don’t understand.

wow that´s great. I´m not a fan of Mariah, but it´s great. And this should be a big sign for all the mariah and celine fans, to stop compare them, it´s just uneccesary and stupid. I don´t speak in general, but some fans simply don´t understand, that it´s a personal opinion for who is better, has the better songs etc. there´s no need to create bad blood everytime... Well I believe Mariah has a show at Caesars today; with Celine back in Vegas I wouldn’t be surprised with Celine catching the show.

Wrong, she promoted it on Jimmy Fallen!! The most popular Late Show on US TV.

 

And yet proceeded to perform “The Show Must Go On.” The album was treated as an afterthought in the U.S. with an apologetic overtone. She could have performed the lead single, but instead chose to play it safe by performing a Queen cover. To this day, it baffles my mind how she got that award from France when she comes across apologetically with her French material in English-speaking territories.

Also, if they didn’t want to do a ballad on Fallon or Ellen, she could have performed “L’etoile” or another mid to uptempo song from “Encore un soir.” In the end, yet again, it comes down to being an entertainer v. an artist.

They don't need to be that scared but embrace the fact she sings in french.

 

She should definitely sing more than just 1 French song in her shows.
