I really feel that saying “ I have nothing to prove” is just a way to say “don’t expect anything from me”

I think it’s a very lazy way to look at a career. If I had nothing prove in my career, than that would be the day I retire.

Not necessarily. Obviously, if she hadn't had such major success she couldn't say "I have nothing to prove"... but after being the #1 singer for years, I think I understand what she means. She still likes what she does but it's not her priority anymore - which is fine after 38 years in the business. Now she does it on her own terms without the stress of reaching the top of the charts.

And we know she is not a lazy person. She's just enjoying the slower pace after many long intense years. Time to reap the benefits! :D

I'm sure she feels a lot of satisfaction in having proven all the nay-sayers wrong - especially now that critical tide is starting to turn in her favor, too, and pretty much every current pop star calls her out as an influence.

BUT, she is also an extremely ambitious woman and one who definitely doesn't strike me as someone who's happy just resting on her laurels. I'm sure there are still a lot of things she wants to try. (She has shown as much in her personal life, that's for sure.) So I think (hope) there's a lot of drive left in her, and to our benefit, she's at a stage where she's not afraid to say "F it" and take risks and strive for more.

But I also think (hope!) it's less about striving for chart positions / record sales, and more about creative risks & having different experiences.

The 2016 summer tour was that. The Le ballet dance was certainly that. Deadpool was that, to some extent.

The 2018 tour was admittedly more "play it safe" in nature - but broadly speaking, I don't think she's all that concerned with playing it safe anymore.

I believe the biggest responsible person is Sony, she lost interest in Celine, I do not know these days, who does not remember Sony's statement at the launch of Loved Me Back To Life, they said they would not release any video clip, a shame.

These days the radios are important, more if the artist has a music video with millions of views and many streming becomes a success.

I think.... yes I think, what we want her to do is is not the same with what she want to do. She wants a career, we want a hit. 😁

Céline wants a hit. Rene said “No, you don’t need a hit. you want a career”.

Celine wants a hit, Rene said "you want a career", so what's exactly Celine wants ? LOL JK, that's not the point.

in my opinion a adele duet would make perfect sense, not only because adele is a top artist nowadays, but also their fanbases are very similar. They reach the same kind of public and it would be very appreciated by adele and celine fans I assume ;)

It also makes perfect sense and fit IMO, but both parties need to think that too.. and also willing to put time and effort into it.

I think anyone who believes that Céline and her team don't want another "hit" or top 100, is delusional.

I don't care what Celine says of course she would love another hit. She could hit us with whole " I have nothing to prove" line that she adores but we all know that's bullshit, she may not be desperate for it but she would defiantly love it and so would Sony.

Problem has never been they don't want another hit, it's that haven't the single idea on how to achieve this, it's watching a team that's a deer in the headlights, totally lost. For example; They want to release songs like " Save Your Soul" and "Loved Me Back To Life" and then on the same album add in a lullaby or some random cover from the 50s.

And that's just one example, let's not get stared on missed opportunities, music videos that could've been, or promotion.

Of course everyone wants a hit... I totally agree with everything you just said. In Céline's team; they're afraid to take chances and in Sony's team; they don't want/are not willing to take any chances. Both combined, resulted in everything we've seen and got so far. Like you said; they had so many (great) opportunities...

That's why I'm not holding any hope about something big is coming. I'm just expecting an album with a lead single and a tour. Anything else would be a plus/surprise.

How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th

Didn't she do that for Sur Le Plaines?

Yes I just remember at the time thinking, they should have reversed it. Hehehehe
I have had the time of my life following this woman! Much love.

Celine already has a solid career, it's time to take risks, to work on new songs, new styles, she's already 50 years old, a career of 30 years of success, let's go to the girl, the moment is now.

I wish that Tommy Mottola start to working with her as a manager. I know that he left Sony Music many time ago but Tommy is good in this businness and he know very well Céline as an artist and of course this Industry! This is the best thing that could happen to her! She will be in good hands for sure! Edited by JEREMYS

I wish Celine worked with Live Nation! I absolutely love their work with Madonna and U2.

They take care of everything: albums, tours, promotion, so all eras are well balanced.

He made Mariah the greatest DIVA in pop history in the 90s but I doubt that he would manage Céline at this point of both of their careers. Céline's wanting to manage herself and I personally think that she doesn't want to find anyone to fill in René shoes and to me that's why Aldo left. Tommy is now too big and too legendary to manage anyone anymore. Although I love Celine and Rene I do wondering sometimes if Mariah wasn't at Sony in the 90s and Celine had got both René and Tommy fully under her wings ( without Tommy had to push for Mariah's career as his priority) What would have happened to Celine' career in the 90s? Especially with the Billboard charts and all the promotion that he did in order to help Mariah's records sold! LOL

She had nothing to prove in 2002 when she came after a 2 year hiatus and new motherhood and all the blahblahblah and YET she delivered her best English material -to me, her most brilliant, diverse and best produced music to date.

So those of you believing her words when she says "she has nothing to prove" just prove to be so naive. One thing is what she says to be "politically correct" and appear confident and fearless before the cameras, and another thing is what she would love to happen, and here I'm 100% sure she would love to have another massive single/album to top the charts. Especially when she hasn't had any other worldwide hit since 2002

The reality I fear (and it’s already been touched upon) is that they have no idea what to do. In the past 3 years we’ve had Queen covers, Disney songs and a song for an “adult” Marvel movie. The album, when it arrives, is likely to be another LMBTL in that it will have everything. I have no idea what they’re scared of. If the album “flops” but has a clear coherent theme and style that’s not a bad thing. It’ll just show them to try something different the next time. Edited by Shaun

Absolutely agree on that. I do believe Sony Music is completely nonchanlant to what Céline does or does not since 2003, when they started to ignore her music releases.

If they were careless in 2003 when they started to ignore all the possible potential radio singles on her albums, don't even ask today. That careless attitude became blatant with the LMBTL album, when they didn't even hesitate to openly admit they wouldn't promote the album nor the singles

Mmmm… and don't forget they pulled the Power of Love single after it was at the top of the charts for a few weeks in the US! If they hadn't pulled it, it would have stayed at the top much longer and threatened his wife's career who was probably throwing a fit! :D

Also... didn’t they stop making copies of BYLM single so it didn’t stay at the top for longer?

In a way... if streaming were there back then... many of celine songs could have been bigger?

That was for MHWGO... they wanted to sell more of LTAL and the soundtrack than the actual single

By the time it will be released I really hope we will get a decent interview with her talking about the album.

Or at least someone who could tell more.

Who cares about singles? Celine has literally sold the most ALBUMS of any other female artist in the world. Every other female artist’s sales are measured as “records” which is albums and singles combined. Celine still reigns supreme in the sales department. She didn’t have to rely on singles.

Could you please give me a source regarding to this? I would be very appreciated. I can only find in Guinness Book World Records site that Madonna is now the best selling female artist in history with more than 350 millions sold records but like you said it's included albums and singles. I can't really find a statistic that shows only album sold by a female artist. For the best selling album by a solo female artist also belongs to Come On Over by Shania Twain.

Don't get me wrong, you know I love Celine the most but I want a correct information so that I can brag about my favourite artist to all my bitchy friends LOL Thank you in advance for your information=)

Celine literally sold 77 million records in 3 albums (LTAL sold 31 million, FIY sold 32 million and TAST sold around 13-14 million) not to mention she has the second biggest selling compilation of all time, ATW sold over 20,000,000 copies. In the 90s alone, she was the biggest selling female artist, selling over 120 million albums. Not to mention selling over 50,000,000 singles that decade too
