Westlife working with Celine dion, that's it or I heard it wrong.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oXZjhY_0gs

Nope, they were asked who would they like to collaborate with and they said Céline. ‘We’ve sang with Mariah Carey, Diana Ross so to be able to sing with Céline would be cool’

If she misses the chance to release a single on Valentine's Day, I don't know what to think...

I can’t see that happening.... I hope though

Valentine's Day used to be good for Celine to release singles - when radios were still the main way to promote a single - but things have changed....

New Spotify / Apple Music playlist. I wish they would choose better songs. I love the songs, but some good ones are always missing.

I would argue that Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus was his biggest hit, but they were both big!

Another very interesting article about the current state of pop - https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/feb/06/pop-2-0-how-globalised-music-created-a-new-kind-of-star

I'd quote, but there are too many quotable bits. Just read the entire thing.

And it's just another of many other articles like it. I suspect this industry shift might be one of the reasons why Celine's album keeps getting delayed - they can't quite decide how to approach things in this brave new world.

This is the perfect time to make something of being bilingual. In the US at least.

Release a Frenglish album and do french/English songs in her next US tour.

No thank you. No need to merge the worlds. She already has English and French albums in their own right.

However a Spanglish album would be nice!

Exactly.

That is absolutely where pop music is heading - it's kind of wild, actually.

Just look at all the signs - K-Pop topping the charts, 8/10 of the top-10 songs on YouTube in 2018 being non-English, all the biggest pop stars doing multi-lingual collaborations.

This is the time to embrace her French material right alongside the English. And maybe do some thoughtful collabs.

No shortage of evidence that the time is now -

English is no longer the default language of American pop (The Guardian)

Take a Seat North America, It's Global Pop's Time to Shine (Vice)

English-Speaking Artists are Losing Their Global Pop Dominance – and YouTube’s Leading the Charge (Rolling Stone)

The Latin Music Boom: Sounds Like it's Here to Stay (SoundExchange)

Foreign Language Music Makes a Top 40 Impact (Noise RPM)

Pop 2.0: how globalised music created a new kind of star (The Guardian)

... and more of the same in the film and TV world. Foreign language content is making a huge impact on Netflix, Amazon, HBO, awards circuit, etc.

North Americans have finally learned to read subtitles!! :giggle:

It'd be a great move for her to perform a few more of her French songs live in the US. Just 3 or 4, in a medley maybe.

And not to mention for her English speaking fans that love her French music **eh hem ME**.

A collaboration with a K POP superstar would be amazing! It would open a gate to a new market for her. K POP fever is so strong in Asia and in a lot of Asian countries even stronger than American music nowadays.

What's on the rise is Latin music, Spanish ligua, remember that Celine said in her last interview in the UK that she will release some new songs, but she does not know when the album will come out and she still talked about the change in the industry .

I believe they will be releasing new songs, with different styles to study the market.

Launching songs in French in the US is not right.

I understand the fact that the industry changed and that all of the singles can be released before the album is out. But the problem lies in how current the songs may sound if they wait too long. Things change so fast that maybe something recorded two years ago sounds dated today. How long it's been since she started recording songs for her upcoming album?

Not necessarily even that.

First step would be acknowledging her existing French material in the first place.

So many of her French videos & EPKs are geo-blocked in the US, and most of her French albums are not available for streaming in the US (and I mean the super-iconic ones, not the early ones from the 80s!)

I feel like for years, Team Celine almost intentionally kept that part of her career very separate, almost cloistered, for fear that North American public would ostracize her for being too foreign. Like they were intentionally trying to hide it. And fair enough; in the 90s maybe that made sense - the Anglo audience was pretty allergic to anything non-English.

Well, now, the tables are turned. Foreign...exotic...different... these are all good things, and language matters less and less. Anglophone A-listers are making collaborations with foreign language artists at a staggering rate. They are seeking this out!

Playlists are about mood, and language is secondary. Especially with streaming, where you can easily discover and sample things from all over the world without making a financial commitment like buying a full album.

I think a really interesting thing for her to do would be a collab where she appears in French on a track by some "streaming generation" Anglophone artist.

Look what happened in 2016, EUS was #1 for international release on the billboard charts.... EUS actually broke into the american top 200 album charts too if I remember correctly

Yeah and that's with no US promo.

EUS was all fresh and new and she went on Fallon and didn't even mention it & instead sang... TSMGO! :wtf:

And that was at the very beginning of this multi-lingual phenomenon. Streaming has really changed the game in the 2+ years since then.

Let's be reasonable, please, It's not time to change the concept of the album again. It's time to conclude it and launch it, with a lot of promotion, music videos and a world tour. Bring the Dionaissance in music. ;)
