scielle Posted February 17, 2019 at 03:50 AM Posted February 17, 2019 at 03:50 AM (edited) Another very interesting article about the current state of pop - https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/feb/06/pop-2-0-how-globalised-music-created-a-new-kind-of-starI'd quote, but there are too many quotable bits. Just read the entire thing. And it's just another of many other articles like it. I suspect this industry shift might be one of the reasons why Celine's album keeps getting delayed - they can't quite decide how to approach things in this brave new world. joaofilho Posted February 17, 2019 at 01:56 PM Posted February 17, 2019 at 01:56 PM What's on the rise is Latin music, Spanish ligua, remember that Celine said in her last interview in the UK that she will release some new songs, but she does not know when the album will come out and she still talked about the change in the industry .I believe they will be releasing new songs, with different styles to study the market. Launching songs in French in the US is not right. Quote
Leo Posted February 17, 2019 at 02:18 PM Posted February 17, 2019 at 02:18 PM I understand the fact that the industry changed and that all of the singles can be released before the album is out. But the problem lies in how current the songs may sound if they wait too long. Things change so fast that maybe something recorded two years ago sounds dated today. How long it's been since she started recording songs for her upcoming album? 2 Quote
scielle Posted February 17, 2019 at 02:38 PM Posted February 17, 2019 at 02:38 PM (edited) It'd be a great move for her to perform a few more of her French songs live in the US. Just 3 or 4, in a medley maybe. And not to mention for her English speaking fans that love her French music **eh hem ME**. Not necessarily even that.First step would be acknowledging her existing French material in the first place. So many of her French videos & EPKs are geo-blocked in the US, and most of her French albums are not available for streaming in the US (and I mean the super-iconic ones, not the early ones from the 80s!) I feel like for years, Team Celine almost intentionally kept that part of her career very separate, almost cloistered, for fear that North American public would ostracize her for being too foreign. Like they were intentionally trying to hide it. And fair enough; in the 90s maybe that made sense - the Anglo audience was pretty allergic to anything non-English. Well, now, the tables are turned. Foreign...exotic...different... these are all good things, and language matters less and less. Anglophone A-listers are making collaborations with foreign language artists at a staggering rate. They are seeking this out! Playlists are about mood, and language is secondary. Especially with streaming, where you can easily discover and sample things from all over the world without making a financial commitment like buying a full album. I think a really interesting thing for her to do would be a collab where she appears in French on a track by some "streaming generation" Anglophone artist. EUS actually broke into the american top 200 album charts too if I remember correctly Yeah and that's with no US promo. EUS was all fresh and new and she went on Fallon and didn't even mention it & instead sang... TSMGO! And that was at the very beginning of this multi-lingual phenomenon. Streaming has really changed the game in the 2+ years since then. Quote
