Moleque20 Posted February 20, 2019 at 08:57 AM Posted February 20, 2019 at 08:57 AM Actually I am curious to see how many copies have FIY, D'eux, LTAL, etc. sold the past 10 years! Unfortunately it is very difficult to get therenumbers, we can only do estimations based on Spotify or similar platforms. Besided, Sony doesn't help much, there are many albums and singles that remain uncertified! 3 Quote Les étoiles tombent une à une. Mes émois sont de saturne.

natrachata Posted February 20, 2019 at 09:23 AM Posted February 20, 2019 at 09:23 AM Celine literally sold 77 million records in 3 albums (LTAL sold 31 million, FIY sold 32 million and TAST sold around 13-14 million) not to mention she has the second biggest selling compilation of all time, ATW sold over 20,000,000 copies. In the 90s alone, she was the biggest selling female artist, selling over 120 million albums. Not to mention selling over 50,000,000 singles that decade too Thank you!=) Quote

Nmj Posted February 20, 2019 at 04:59 PM Posted February 20, 2019 at 04:59 PM Who cares about singles? Celine has literally sold the most ALBUMS of any other female artist in the world. Every other female artist’s sales are measured as “records” which is albums and singles combined. Celine still reigns supreme in the sales department. She didn’t have to rely on singles. Not having to rely on singles is one thing. But singles do matter in my opinion. Yes she had crazy success without the success of singles but having said that she is known for more of the album fillers. Singles matter when it comes to hit songs, and songs people want to hear on the radio. That’s why Mariah Carey has had the success she has had, she may not sell albums well but she had a complete entire show in Vegas of every single number one song from her career. She filled an entire set list with all number 1s, not a fan of Mariah’s but that’s insane! Especially today singles matter, nobody has to buy the entire “LTAL” album to be able to hear MHWGO anymore, nobody has to buy the entire FIY album just to hear BYLM anymore, Times have changed. And though Celine has had a great career she still could’ve had more hits and less album fillers if SONY did their job to focus more on singles than they did especially in the 90s. 3 Quote

ordinary fan Posted February 20, 2019 at 05:16 PM Posted February 20, 2019 at 05:16 PM (edited) The reality I fear (and it's already been touched upon) is that they have no idea what to do. In the past 3 years we've had Queen covers, Disney songs and a song for an "adult" Marvel movie. The album, when it arrives, is likely to be another LMBTL in that it will have everything. I have no idea what they're scared of. If the album "flops" but has a clear coherent theme and style that's not a bad thing. It'll just show them to try something different the next time.I think the don´t know what to do remains on celine´s team side, they can´t promote the songs on radio stations etc.... Sony simply has to do their job! Finally again, after more than 16 years! It´s just disrespectful to Celine + her team and her fans (us), to just ignore her work since 2003. Sony has to promote her singles on radio stations and chose also only the radio friendly ones. And I also don´t understand the attitude of Sony. Even a Celine album flobs (on Celine standards), because it "only" sells 1,5 millions, it still shows, that she still sells a lot without promotion. So my point is, with promotion, a celine album would be on the top of the charts worldwide and they could make even more money...I think it´s all about the money (but not when it comes to celine, it seems?) Sony I don´t understand your attitude. Do your job and everyone will gain profit of it big time! Edited February 20, 2019 at 05:17 PM by ordinary fan 2 Quote

One Sweet Day stayed at #1 for 16 weeks and yet when it was played to people between 14 and 18.... they had no idea what it was. You dont have a single stay at 1 for 16 weeks and yet no one from the 90s remembers it either. All the people ive spoken too whether it be family or friends who were ages 10 and up in the 90s have no clue what that song is And not to mention its been proven time and again that Tommy Mottola was the biggest chart rigger, so he wouldbe rigged anything for his money maker Mariah. Not to mention that she had only 4 #1s after her and tommys divorce, one of which reached #1 because it was counted as a B Side to We Belong Together (her Butterfly era she was still with tommy until 1998) 18 #1s and youre lucky if people know Hero and We Belong Together Celine has had 4 US #1s and many teens know IACBTMN,TPOL,BYLM,MHWGO,IDAN and Im Alive as shown on teens react... maki_Dion-er Posted February 20, 2019 at 08:20 PM Posted February 20, 2019 at 08:20 PM There's an article about Mariah's Billboard chart manipulations. I don't remember the source but I read it not long ago. Regardless, she is one of the top singers of the 90s. Speaking for myself, I only know about 4 of her songs but I knew all of Celine's big hits and even some of her less known songs way before I became a fan. Ofc, it all has to do with your household imo, my mom and family loved Celine so that's probably how I was exposed to her music (all I know is I don't remember actively listening to her songs unless it was BATB). No matter the case, Celine has a much broader and global appeal than Mariah imo. And I think that is very important and relevant to the music industry in this age. 2 Quote

Agree, I think Céline has way more global appeal than Mariah. She's not selling well internationally and I've heard that only her Christmas concerts are popular. 1 Quote

That popularity is debatable though, when someone said in 90's Mimi is more huge than Celine in Asia and gave example about TTWII against Heartbreak, I literally search on YouTube which song it is, I do remember that song, but that song is not huge in my country, and I never heard anymore in the radio or public places unlike TTWII which sometimes it played on radio or public places or even in singing talent search tv program to this day. So I think it depends in which country. 2 Quote
