Something tells me that SNL probably did reach out to Celine in the past and she turned down the offer. In the past I've never really thought Celine had quite the right cultural cachet for an SNL invite -- it seemed that the musical guests were often more indie-oriented, or the type of acts that would be deemed "acceptable" by the likes of Rolling Stone or Pitchfork. But in the last three years she has become so beloved and respected that I think the timing is right. SNL needs to happen, if only as the musical guest. I remember the anticipation for Let’s Talk About Love, the info was scarce, the internet in infancy and album title changes galore. There was a tonne of speculation and rumour - that was part of the fun. Can a boy be forgiven for taking advantage of the situation in world full of suffering, pain and challenge? Life is difficult enough as it is without people getting precious over such small things.
