ryba Posted December 4, 2022 at 01:14 PM Posted December 4, 2022 at 01:14 PM Songs can go viral these days out of nowhere. It happened with IACBTMN on TikTok and I heard MHWGO is getting popular on Tiktok right now. The Christmas situation is odd because Happy Xmas is her new most popular song for Christmas in terms of streams. I always thought Oh Holy Night was more beloved. I don't exactly know how Mariah's song became so popular, it's really only in the last 5 - 10 years where it happened. Maybe they did some heavy marketing or a strategic promo. Idk.the problem with TC is that when Celine songs go viral, they don’t capitalise on it. Celine herself could post a goofy video, but they don’t react in any way. 3 Quote

November 1st comes and I know I'll be seeing Mariah dressed like Santa. 🤢 As far as Celine is concerned the solution to the issue is to promote the online platforms better. And there are several steps to this: - Recruit team members that know how to handle her accounts and create interesting, engaging content. I swear the fan account CelineOracle on YT is much more competent at doing this than her team. Every day there is new content, reels, polls and so on. - More HD performances in her official accounts. - More acknowlement of those online spaces in interviews. - More of a turn to AC music and ballads in her albums as this might guarantee higher album sales. - More certification updates. These need to be acknowledged. The only thing that is going well in terms of promoting her back catalogue is her tours that are centred around her old songs, and that's about it. 😶 Edited December 4, 2022 at 02:45 PM by LukeD 4 Quote
manu23 Posted December 4, 2022 at 03:28 PM Posted December 4, 2022 at 03:28 PM At least Mariah is promoted every year as the queen of Christmas and her 25 year old Christmas song is being hyped each year recently. That’s her new thing that keeps her on the map. But they don’t really know what to do with Celine, so they put up 3 big billboards that remind people that LTAL now turned 25… Celine also has brilliant Christmas songs, but Sony puts Mariah first in that regard, because it works very well. They have to find something for Celine as well apart from fashion, something that is music related. I guess being the #1 female touring artist means nothing to you? People wrongly associate the tremendous success of AIWFCIY to Mariah being popular. I'm pretty sure half people listening to the song don't even know who Mariah Carey is. This song is featured in every single Christmas playlist in the world and there is where it gets most streams. Same as Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (and she doesn't promote at all). AIWFCIY got popular again after being featured in Love Actually and Mariah was clever enough to jump on the wagon. She has tried to release new music around Christmas time to capitalize on AIWFCIY success and she has failed. If you think Courage was a flop because it sold around 700K worldwide, imagine Mariah's last album selling less than 250K... This being said, I can't believe how lame Team Celine is when it comes to her Christmas music. Happy Xmas delivers great streaming numbers in many markets, if they would promote just a bit and make sure the song is featured on the main Christmas playlists it would explode. 1 Quote
LukeD Posted December 4, 2022 at 04:21 PM Posted December 4, 2022 at 04:21 PM This reinforces my point because the last good selling album Mariah had was in 2005. E=MC2 was just decent and anything after this major flops, selling a lot less than Celine's French albums. So considering that, it bothers me to see Celine's total records dominance jeopardized due to lack of online engagement. 1 Quote

PuraVida Posted December 4, 2022 at 07:01 PM Posted December 4, 2022 at 07:01 PM Do you guys think that Rihanna's 270 M record sales are realistic in this digital music era? Haven't watched the video above, but I don't think her numbers have any official sources. Or at least the verifications are less reliable. Also, I wonder if streams from Africa are properly accounted ffor in these totals. Because Celine has so many streams across Africa. Quote
Állex Sodi Posted December 4, 2022 at 07:58 PM Posted December 4, 2022 at 07:58 PM She has been shoving it down our throats every year, that's how. November 1st comes and I know I'll be seeing Mariah dressed like Santa. 🤢 It’s quite the opposite, really! It has been a well know Christmas song since it’s released. What happened in the later years, after 2012, is that Billboard changed their rules and the song started charting on HOT100. But prior to that the song was already topping the billboard digital sales chart every year since 2005. With the streaming era the song busted to new audiences. Mariah (and her team) didn’t force the success of AIWFCIY, they capitalize on it to make even bigger (to hit #1), as they should. Something Celine and her team should have done with IACBTMN. 2 Quote

Celine herself could post a goofy video, but they don’t react in any way. Maybe I’m remembering incorrectly, but didn’t TC start the Céline Dion/IACBTMN Challenge?? It was part of their FYI 25 campaign. They asked fans on TikTok to recreate a scene from the music video, and like, a year later it finally caught on. Also, did we forget the Instagram ad!? We can’t say they’ve done *nothing* to promote her in the past… it’s just that it all came to a crashing halt when the tour stopped. And now, instead of releasing vault treasures, they’re out there hawking tacky merch or “special edition” vinyl which is not special at all… which, again, I find insulting. mirage Posted December 4, 2022 at 11:14 PM Posted December 4, 2022 at 11:14 PM It's true that they started it. But when it finally went viral they didn't had a clue what to do with it. The advertisements for LTAL those billboards, the deals with Apple Music and Spotify. I guess they cost money too, but it's soo lazy that it brings nothing new with it. comingback Posted December 4, 2022 at 11:34 PM Posted December 4, 2022 at 11:34 PM (edited) TC and Sony suck. They can't even release a 25 years old concert/ LIM VHS on DVD. During the last 2 years they could have released and uploaded concert DVD's and videos for the fans. I really hope that they will upload the MHWGO video, If they have a little respect towards Celine and her fans. But I have my doubts... Edited December 4, 2022 at 11:37 PM by comingback 3 Quote
smw Posted December 5, 2022 at 12:16 AM Posted December 5, 2022 at 12:16 AM If they don’t upload the official MHWGO video for the upcoming rerelease of Titanic, then I don’t see it happening anytime in the foreseeable future. Surely the conversation of the music video at least came up at Sony or TC with Titanic hitting theaters again… https://deadline.com/2022/06/titanic-rerelease-date-remastered-version-james-cameron-1235050212/amp/ I’ll still hold out hope… I never would’ve thought that I’d get the chance to hear those Phil Spector songs so I’m going to keep on hoping Beauty and the Beast & MHWGO videos are uploaded to her channel. Also the rerelease of Titanic positions Celine very well for a really nice comeback in 2023… if she’s ready & if her team capitalizes on it. 3 Quote

Del Posted December 5, 2022 at 11:00 PM Posted December 5, 2022 at 11:00 PM I'd just like to say that it was 24 years today that I saw Céline for the 1st time. She brought the Let's Talk About Love tour to Halifax and I was able to get 10th row. Bonus was that George Hebert and Céline held an autograph session for her biography. Popular Post Alex_Incognito Posted December 6, 2022 at 07:13 PM Popular Post Posted December 6, 2022 at 07:13 PM (edited) I'll never forget the first time I saw the "Let's Talk About Love Special Asian Tour Package" in stores back around 1999. I wanted it the moment I saw it but I was only around 13 years old and it was so expensive---around $40. So I saved up my money and went back to get it and it was gone. Heartbreak. It wasn't till I was on vacation in Honolulu at Christmas time in 2000 that I finally saw it in stores and I snagged it. What an exciting time that was going to music stores and checking out the cool imports. I remember I also got Les Chansons en Or that way as well. It was the golden age of music. Also finding all of her early French songs put out in cool packaging. It was Céline fan heaven. Au Cœur du Stade was also one I had to save up for - very expensive, as was the Asian Tour Special Edition of LTAL with “Be the Man”. Both of those I found at my local Sam Goody, and both are looooong gone (I wore them out). The Live à Paris VHS was another rare one. None of these were ever restocked after I bought them, so I was probably the only kid (or person) in town with those in my collection! 6 Quote
