I've been trying to identify from where comes the video from 03:26 (brown dress), but I can't find it...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZtqP1Ca8YQ Hmmm I’ve never seen that one either! I am in the middle of watching this doc for the first time, and it’s super fascinating! For example: I was floored when Julie asked her what she did in Amsterdam during her downtime and she said she went walking in the “red light” district - then Céline gave her two cents about legalized prostitution! Such a topic would never have been broached in an English interview (unless the interviewer was making fun of the topic). Also seeing her impression of René and teasing him with such an attitude was 1) very funny and 2) reminded me of the kind of sass she started showing in English interviews more recently (remember when she flipped the middle finger to that reporter?! ). And to see a pro-shot of « Terre » was cool, too. I wonder what show that was from? Edited November 20, 2023 at 06:50 AM by Chantemoi 1 Quote

Chantemoi Posted November 20, 2023 at 08:52 AM Posted November 20, 2023 at 08:52 AM (edited) Has anyone ever subtitled this interview in English? Funny you ask… My French is decent, but there were still many blanks left unfilled as I watched… either they were talking too fast or using Québec slang I’m not familiar with… and it really inspires me to want to team up with a francophone and get some subtitles on this gem! Wasn't there one from 2016/2017 too? That one was also spectacular. These were such incredibly historic and interesting years — all fans should have access to these specials! LukeD Posted November 21, 2023 at 09:39 PM Posted November 21, 2023 at 09:39 PM (edited) Love Is On The Way could have been a hit for either Porter or Celine had it been released and promoted properly. To me it's up there with classics like All By Myself & When I Need You. Edited November 21, 2023 at 09:39 PM by LukeD 2 Quote

Loup_garou Posted November 22, 2023 at 12:39 AM Posted November 22, 2023 at 12:39 AM The drama… https://people.com/b...the-90s-8405049 What I really hate about this kind of drama is the whole "my song" thing without a single acknowledgement to the writers "Tina Shafer tells us that the songs she writes all have a deep meaning for her. Explaining the inspiration for this one, she said: "I came into the studio with the introduction to that song. I had some thoughts and feelings about moving on in my life. I had recently gone through a breakup, and that was the seed of that song. Peter (Zizzo), when we wrote together, I would come up a lot with the verses and he would come in with a killer chorus, which he certainly did with that song." and how Porter got involved"he was studying vocal technique with Tina Shafer, who wrote this song with Peter Zizzo (her ex-husband), and Denise Rich. Shafer asked him to record the song, and its big break came when it was showcased at a party Rich had for Bette Middler. As Porter sang, Middler handed Shafer a note on a cocktail napkin: "Can you please submit this song to The First Wives Club?" songfacts 1 Quote
smw Posted November 22, 2023 at 01:03 AM Posted November 22, 2023 at 01:03 AM (edited) His version is really good. I bet that was very difficult… to feel like a song you were so proud of got handed off to a big name like Celine. And for the same producer to work on it. Ouch. With that said, his version wasn’t exactly going to change the music industry or anything. Edited November 22, 2023 at 01:05 AM by smw Quote

But it’s not like Celine’s career was handed to her on a silver platter. She worked her butt off from a very young age. 1 Quote

He didn’t get the song most likely because they wanted it on Celine’s album after FIY major success the year prior. The label probably liked the song and wanted it somewhere where they thought it had a chance to thrive. I’m sure at the time they weren’t thinking that MHWGO would steal the spotlight of the album as the ballad. But hey, it’s still on one of the most successful albums ever sold, I’m sure the songwriters are happy it’s where it ended up, and that they got royally compensated. Quote

The fact the we can pin point the very few artists who managed to break that prejudice structure says it all. Both white man, it’s important to highlight! Both subject to several instances of violence before and after achieving commercial success. It’s incredible how easy people dismiss structures of prejudice, like racism and homophobia, calling “drama” or whatever. As Billy said, this is not even about Celine. Quote
