CelinesDIVO5 Posted November 23, 2023 at 11:24 AM Posted November 23, 2023 at 11:24 AM Agree, however if he’d read his contract he would have known that any of his songs were fair game to be doled out to bigger artists. That’s how the industry works. Though I do feel his pain - it must suck to have your “big break” passed off to an artist who has already “made it”. Bet he’s not complaining about those royalty checks though… I’m sure they went a long way improving Billy’s quality of life. There was no big break. His version went basically nowhere. It didn’t even crack 80 on the Hot 100. I also do not believe he had any royalties to the song, as at the time he was a virtually unknown artist. He didn’t have the clout at the time to make any type of deals to gain rights to publishing or copyright. He was not a writer on the song either. Meanwhile, his version was part of a major movie. The song went nowhere despite the film’s success. I also remember something about the song being offered to Celine first; but she had already wrapped on the FIY album, and it would not have made sense to have a song on a soundtrack that could no longer be included on an album. Also in addition to already having BYLM which had already gained traction as a hit. Billy just needs to pipe down. His version of LIOTW is blah. It went nowhere. Then his follow up single didn’t crack the top 40. Maybe he just didn’t have the chops for mainstream music. He is talented for sure, but his voice is run of the mill. I’ve heard PLENTY of similar voices. Some even better that are in the same wheelhouse, who don’t get even half of the recognition that Billy does. I like his voice. I enjoy his presence in the industry. Do I think he deserves more than he has? Nope. 3 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay

It's not as if Celine "stole" his spotlight. Billy released the song first and it went nowhere. So basically that's the end of it. marc-02 Posted November 23, 2023 at 03:23 PM Posted November 23, 2023 at 03:23 PM Just read this YT comment, dont know if this is true: @papindabx Just a bit of information I know about this song, Billy Porter & Celine Dion. Billy first recorded this song and was part of the "The First Wives Club" movie and soundtrack. His team and of course Billy were hoping this great song would help propel his album and him as a solo artist going mainstream. The album is amazing. I still have it and listen to it to this day. I highly recommend it....Then Celine Dion recorded it for her album "Let's Talk About Love" and her album skyrocketed in sales etc. while Billy's album didn't do well at all. Both albums came out around the same time. So fast forward, Billy was in a gay film called "The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy". There was a scene where his character's boyfriend cheats on him and Billy's character finds out and tells his friends at his friend's birthday party. His friends try to console him by trying to put on some consoling album of love songs and someone suggests Celine Dion and he yells with disgust "In Hell"! And that was his way of getting back or expressing himself for what Celine's album did to his. @papindabx Just a bit of information I know about this song, Billy Porter & Celine Dion. MaiconSC Posted November 26, 2023 at 04:48 PM Posted November 26, 2023 at 04:48 PM this Billy guy is ambiguous... in that article he says he won't be part of the industry anymore...but this year he released an album ???????he was in musical movies, he was on Broadway I think.... he does shows...so what? what does he want? if I remember well, years ago he was already talking about this episode with Celine. He even told that Celine sent him flowers, but when he got home the flowers were already dead (???)He's a drama queen, and he wants attention (special now that he has a new album) Quote

MaiconSC Posted January 25, 2024 at 04:52 AM Posted January 25, 2024 at 04:52 AM I mean he wrote the english version for Celine... I didn't knew he recorded it too! here he talks about it (43:52): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZtqP1Ca8YQ p.s.: they show a performance of Everything I Do that I never saw before... wish we would have it in fullWOW so much footage from Chicago - which is proof enough to me that they filmed the entire show. Would have been nice to release it for the anniversary… She said the clip of "Everything I Do…" is from Cannes - supposing that's from her FIY tour. Love the 1996 versions more than the 1999 one. Her "I'd die for you" line and the final "…for you" are sublime!Yes! but her costumes in this duet doesn't seem from the regular shows... maybe it was an event they both were at...her vocals are amazing! I love the footage from Chicago... isn't the S'il suffisait d'aimer live videoclip from that show also?Perhaps this special concert?https://www.celinedi...-edition-midem/ Yep! It was also the concert which I believe many fans consider her best LTAL Tour vocal of MHWGO, which we've heard in bootleg audio. And as a former Chicago resident, I'd especially love to see it! ** Edit: come to think of it, can anyone identify the performance they used in the opening of the Un An Avec doc? Is that vocal from Chicago, too? Well, I came months later to confirm that you're right about the MIDEM event... here in this video they talk about it, as they are in the backstage of the event (25:20 mark): they told they only filmed a bit, but I hardly doubt they don't have a full footage! here in this link we can see the duet with Jean Jacques-Goldman from that same concert: BONUS archives France 3 - Céline Dion en 1996 | BONUS VIDEO de nos archives Céline Dion et Jean-Jacques Goldman au Midem 1996 à Cannes... Abodi2002 Posted January 25, 2024 at 05:39 AM Posted January 25, 2024 at 05:39 AM Hmmm I’ve never seen that one either! I am in the middle of watching this doc for the first time, and it’s super fascinating! For example: I was floored when Julie asked her what she did in Amsterdam during her downtime and she said she went walking in the “red light” district - then Céline gave her two cents about legalized prostitution! Such a topic would never have been broached in an English interview (unless the interviewer was making fun of the topic). Also seeing her impression of René and teasing him with such an attitude was 1) very funny and 2) reminded me of the kind of sass she started showing in English interviews more recently (remember when she flipped the middle finger to that reporter?! ). And to see a pro-shot of « Terre » was cool, too. I wonder what show that was from?Lol I know I’m late but that MHWGO performance in the beginning of that documentary you asked about was Divas live, at least the audio was. There was a Montreal one dubbed with Divas live, not sure that’s it though. 1 Quote

isurrender Posted April 7, 2024 at 12:05 PM Posted April 7, 2024 at 12:05 PM I've just heard about "Billy Porter's case" ( I'm a bit late , I know ). For whatever reasons, he is bitter. But his story doesn't make any sense to me. It's a pity that now some people believe that Céline stole from him... The funniest thing about all this that I've never read anywhere is that he released in 2005 his cover of "Only one road" ( written by P.Zizzo as well)... so he doesn't seem to be bothered when it's the other way around... At the end of the day, it would be all about racism, or being gay....but again, wrong point in this case. Sure, it's easier to make it in the US when you're not American ! And back then even English artists struggled ... Let alone non english speakers. Quote

Question: Which is the best LTAL World Tour English concert? If her team were to do an official release, which city should it be? Also, watching this concert reminded me of what a big song I’m Your Angel is and what a bummer it is that R Kelly ended up being a sick person. It’s one of Celine’s rare #1 hits in the US. So it was really a huge song in her career. https://www.billboard.com/artist/celine-dion/chart-history/hsi/ Edited July 15, 2024 at 09:30 PM by smw Quote

It has ABM and not a lipped TPOL. Most importantly, the screams from the crowd is deafening. Listen to MYWGO for example. 1 Quote
Abodi2002 Posted July 16, 2024 at 12:44 AM Posted July 16, 2024 at 12:44 AM (edited) For me vocally Anaheim and Chicago are best, but I would prefer another August or early September 1998 concert for the fact that Love Is On The Way was included. We know parts of Madison Square Garden were performed. We have enough English bootlegs that I would like a Montreal 1998 show, I believe Montreal would be a lot better than Paris vocally.
