Oh my word, that long brown evening dress is soooooo beautiful. For me, this dress is the most beautiful out of ALL her Vegas dresses. The others are also pretty, but this one, its absolutely stunning. When i saw her trying it on in "3 boys and a new show", my mouth just dropped open. Drop dead gorgeous.

Pathetic. Celine is given the first opportunity in 15 years to sing a duet with the original singer. We all know how rare that is - it doesn't come along very often. Then she wastes everyones time including Diana King's by lipping to a track that's 14 years old? Jesus christ, I've lost all respect for this woman as a performer. All she does these days is lip her own songs and sing karaoke to other peoples songs. Don't get me wrong, I love Celine Dion the mother, Celine Dion the person, and her songs, but Celine Dion the performer gets a big fat F. I've learned to accept most songs as being lipped, but there are certain times where it is just not anywhere near acceptable. We hear all this talk about saving the voice....saving for what?? After 20 years when does the saving end? Jesus christ I am infuriated.

 

Oh and one last comment, I'm sure someone accidentally left her new DOL playback tape in Vegas since it was only used once, hence why she only sang like three lines of it. Sad that that is the highlight of this entire night, along with the inclusion of IA. Hate to be a negative-nancy but this is ridiculous. It'd be one thing if it was a big tour, but a one-off show. You can put more effort into it than that!

 

And you can say all you want about high expectations, but if you think it's to high of an expectation to expect a SINGER to SING at a festival that she was invited to sing at - a freaking festival about music... then you need to be punched in the face.

 

A perfect indictment of the injustice Celine is doing. People on here are crazy for her, and yet she lets us down..and herself...when she does lip at times like this.

 

Are we sure she lipped THLAL? It sounded completely fresh and new to me! As for DOL maybe she forgot the words Her mic was still on and she was riffing. I think it would have been VERY difficult to lip at this concert, especially given the timing. She must have known there would be tons of cell phones and cameras..the instrumentation sounded fresh. Anyway, I'm happy that she at least went to Jamaica and we were able to get to see her live outside of Vegas, unscripted. The fans of Jamaica deserved it so much.

First of all, thanks for all the videos and pictures. I love the blue dress, and I definitely think her hair looks better parted at the side.

 

Second, ''I'm Alive'' is definitely an improvement from the one on the TC DVD. Love the ending! However, I long for a great live performance like the ones from the ANDHC TV special or from Divas.

 

I can't say that I'm not surprised that THLAL was lipped. I knew it would be that is why I was not even excited that it was included.

 

Tyler, I agree 100% with you. I'm probably going to get bashed for what I'm going to write here, but that is just how I feel lately. I love Celine with all my heart, and yes, she probably has one of the best voices out there, but sometimes Celine is definitely not a true performer. Is she a great role model? Yes. She is one of the few celebrities out there that is still clean. Do I admire her for that? Of course. She does a lot of charity, and I admire her for that too. Does she do a lot for her fans? Yes, and she will probably still do a lot more in the future. She definitely can put a spectacular show together. She is a trouper - to see this just watch CTTEOTW. All these things I love about her. But a true performer is proud of the songs they recorded and is proud to go on stage to perfom them live, and I mean really sing them live, flaws and all. That is what I love about a live performance, that it is not perfect. Now I know we've had this discussion a million times before as to why Celine chooses to lip certain songs. My feeling is that she simply doesn't want to risk making any mistakes because she is a perfectionist. If she really wants to preserve her voice, then a true performer would come up with a way to make it easier to sing certain songs live. There are ways to work around the big notes. She can change the arrangements, sing it in a lower key, etc. I would much rather listen to a different version if it is 100% live, than a pre-recorded version that she uses in every damn show. What is artistic about that? Then I might as well record a bunch of songs and autotune them a bit and perform every night on stage. Celine is known for being a great live singer, so why doesn't she do what she is best at? The fact of the matter is she cheats her fans, and I don't know how she can actually live with herself knowing that we pay a shitload of money to come see her sing LIVE, but in reality she is just standing there miming her biggest hits probably not even thinking about the song.

 

And I won't even buy that nonsense that her fans want to hear the songs in their original versions. That is not true, a lot of artists change their arrangements for live performances and people always welcome them. If you want to listen to a perfect original version of the song, go listen to the album.

 

I'm looking forward to hearing PQTME. Lately I prefer her French concerts, it just feels more real to me.

^^ That video confirms she lipped THLAL, you can see it clearly in several moments of the song like 1:48, where she wasn't following what the playback was singing

 

Not until today did I gave credit to the lipping thing, after all the discussion that has been going on in this forum over the last years. It's not that I didn't want to "see" it, but I was incapable of noticing where she actually lipped and where she was actually singing. But I was so excited to see her performing this song, after 13 years of singing always the same songs, and she comes with a playback?? So disappointed. I can't understand WHERE'S the need for her to do this when she's way capable of singing live whatever she wants Now I don't know when she's cheating us and when she's actually singing live

God how bizarre, using the 1998 THLAL playback as a backing track! Celine was singing live over it throughout the song, but at the end her adlibs were compaletely messed up and I can her something something different playing at the same time in the background at one point - AWKWARD! It's ridiculous really, for a one-off performance like this I was expecting better. Using playbacks as a backing track is never a good idea, things are bound to get messy. If she was still singing live over it then the only explanation I can think of is volume, maybe they thought Celine's voice was too weak on its own against the big orchestral arrangement?? Either way, they could have easily done something about this before the show to make things right.

 

Celine fact: This is the first time a 1998 LTAL playback has ever been used outside the LTAL tour!

Huge fail at 1:50!! I've always defended her using playback, rightly or wrongly, I've accepted it and I deal with it but things like this are so ridiculous. Using an ancient track is bad enough but to not even know when to sing, it's getting harder and harder to defend it. And I know she's struggling because she's having problems with her ear monitors, she's signalling to the sound engineers right throughout the performance, but that's the kind of thing that can happen when you don't sing live. The solution.........sing live!!

Yep, the proof she's using playback is that she's having some problem with the earphones, she's not following what she hears or the volume is too low so then the is lost while she's trying to follow the lyrics, but the faking is already obvious... Something that wouldn't have happened if she actually sang it live

They better hope this does not cause a big scandal again like the UK thing. It is as clear as daylight that she is lipping. Btw, did Diana sing live? I guess she did, which to me is even worse because it is disrespectful to the other singer you duet with.

 

I did not even realize she sang ''At Seventeen'' and ''The Prayer'' too. Looking forward to hearing that. Those are some of the few songs worth listening to these days. Real singing...

I'm slightly peeved at her lipping THLAL- she goes for it at the end and you can hear her singing over herself.

 

But let me tell you this- if I heard that Celine was headlining Glastonbury, I'd be terrified- they put next to no effort in preparing for this festival- THLAL wasn't rehearsed, DOL was a mess, she obviously was pre-menstrual or she'd had a bust-up with Rene because it was very evident that she was not at all in the mood.

 

And what was the 'bla bla bla' in ABM? At the bridge before the big note? Sounds like her in soundcheck or something.

 

'm sure Celine was peeved at the whole thing- it felt clumsy, unprofessional and shaky- her voice when she sand was ace)- bu very upsetting to know that fans who love her, like those in Jamaia were ecstatic over a spoilt, unmotivated singer

"HELLO, Jamaica!" shouted Celine Dion to the huge crowd that turned out for her performance at Jamaica Jazz and Blues, at the Greenfied Stadium in Trelawny on Friday night.

 

After her opening number I Drove All Night at minutes after midnight, the Canadian singer expressed appreciation for the love and support she got from her Jamaican fans.

 

Every sentence was greeted with claps and loud cheers as she continued to shower praises about the island.

 

"I'm so excited to be here. We have been enjoying the beautiful weather, the friendliest people, the food," she said.

 

"I have some making up to do for all that lost time. I can't believe we're really here in your beautiful country; the home of the great Bob Marley, the best place on earth to get an amazing plate of jerked chicken!"

 

"Happy birthday Jamaica on 50 fabulous years of independence," she said, before getting back to the real business at hand - thrilling fans.

 

For many, the Dion experience began at the main road leading up to the stadium. From as early as 8:15, the main car park at the stadium was full to capacity due to the overwhelming turnout. Patrons had to make the long trek to the venue having some distance away.

 

Dion delivered Where Does My Heart Beat Now, then Because You Loved Me, which from its first musical strains were greeted with loud screams, many singing along their hands outstretched. A few couples used the opportunity to slow dance.

 

It was more musical thrill when Dion sang It's All Coming Back To Me Now, Power of Love and one she did in honour of Ella Fitzgerald who died in June 1996, Mr Paganini.

 

The musical journey continued with Beauty and the Beast and Gold Finger.

 

The singer had four quick costume changes during her hour-long set and was accompanied by her band, which was on queue throughout her performance. The superb lighting served to enhance her performance.

 

Local artiste Diana King shared stage with the star performing the song she penned Treat Her Like A Lady, then it was back to more solos. I'm Alive, All By Myself, River Deep, Mountain High and My Heart Will Go On brought the curtains down on a performance that was interlaced with screams, shouts, dancing and lots of love from the fans present.

I was always under the impression while I was listening to the THLAL performance that it was a backing track...her riffs and ad-libs and phrases were obviously live over it, right? Or am I missing something? I loved the performance...and maybe she was having ear piece problems (she queued her people offstage after pointing to it in another song I saw also) and chose to sing the song live on the spot (though I don't think that's likely). Anyone want to tell me at what points in the video she is lipping...I can see that the moment in question is suspicious, but it seemed like Celine was up there with the intention of singing it live.

 

I think Celine was probably jetlagged (which is what she gets for flying in the day of) and tired...perhaps not excited to be there but who knows...also maybe there were time constraints she had to abide by as previous performances did.

 

I'm just waiting for her new album.

First of all thank you so much for the videos. She looks great and i'm glad we got the chance to see it after the whole streaming issue. And see how the worldwide media are suddenly interested in her when she steps out of Vegas?

 

I would LOVE to say she sounded great but the line between fact and fiction has once and for all became too blurred. It's got the point where you honestly just don't know if Celine's going to sing or mime.

 

The reality is Celine and her whole team do this because they can - they are getting away with it!

 

Over the years there has been next to NO controversy about the issue and whenever it has come up it has been quickly dealt with by a press release. They have been VERY clever changing or re-recording vocals whenever the slightest hint they are being found out comes up. Celine and her team are being paid MILLIONS of dollars to perform to backing tracks. If you could go to your work and get away with doing half your job and still get paid wouldn't you go for the easy option as well? This is the situation they find themselves in. Nobody has ever questioned what they do, so they keep doing it!

 

As awful as it may sound the reality is this will keep happening until Celine finds herself in the worldwide news much like Ashlee Simpson did after her SNL scandal or Britney Spears did during the Austrailian leg or her world tour. The difference being nobody really expects much from those performers, for Celine the expectations are much much higher and such news would hurt her much more. Would the Coloseum continue selling out 4000 tickets every night if the casual fans knew in reality a high percentage of the show would actually be a CD they were hearing? As much as it would pain us as Celine fans to see the truth coming out and the bad publicity it would attract sadly unless this awful con is exposed it will keep happening! We'll keep getting to the next live album or live dvd or world tour wondering what "playback version" we are getting.

 

So yeah Celine sounded good, or at least the CD did. I wonder what Diana King thought about what was going on during their performance?

Fun but certainly not up to par. I don't mind what she does in vegas or what she did in the world tour. Now in the middle of her break doing a pretty much one time only concert.. that was kind of chickenshit as my mom would say. I don't think Celine is spoilt in the sense most people would think, I think they probably feel more comfortable lipping than they should from doing it so long with specific songs. You ease into a comfort zone and you act innapropriately and think no one knows or cares. Well, we do, so it's sad and dissapointing. You could see her distressed in THLAL. I felt bad for her but not as bad as I did in Vienna.

She looked amazing!! And I think she enjoyed herself, especially during I'm Alive. And it's great that she's doing a show abroad, instead of just staying in Vegas.

I always thought the 1998 THLAL was hard enough to lip to with all the adlibs at the end. I'm amazed she remembered the timings back then, but I guess she was doing it every night. But to try singing along to it 13 years later is a big mistake, she obviously hadn't taken enough time to learn the track, and the second half became a disaster in this performance! In some ways, having Celine singing live over it made things worse, as once she starts doing the wrong adlib, she's pretty much commited to it, hence we hear 2 different vocals doing 2 different things in some places - it's even more obvious in this new better quality video. Had she been completely lipping it, she could have turned around if she forgot her timings until she remembered her place. This would still appear awkward, but at least the audio would be intact and only 1 voice. In this case, lipping is obvious in both audio and video.

 

I think this performance proves that Celine should stick to her 100% live or 100% lipped tradition, doing both at the same time does NOT work, especially on awkward songs like this one!

Edit: Nevermind found it. Clearly used to lipping it. I wonder who got it for fogetting to bring her playback tape. Like Stevo said, it is like they were not properly prepared for this concert.
