E=MC's Gold certification was celebrated hours ago here in our sunday noon-time show SOP. they had a special tribute to MC.

 

pretty weird as celine has never got a special attention here prior to her new album.

 

yay That means how many units sold ?

15,000 copies shipped in just 8 days. she should kiss my a$$, in 1 week i bought 2 copies

And it seems like a lot of the people here feel that Europe and the USA are the only countries in the world. For your information, Mariah is doing very well in Asia.

 

actually mariah's sales decline in japan since the 90's has been disastrous compared to how huge she used to be.

 

Every artist has been bigger in the 90's. Music industry is not what it used to be. Not so many people are buying original music these days.

 

of course music sales have dropped but mariah's drop in japan is still disastrous considering that. japanese music market is nowhere near as affected as US market by piracy and sales are still quite good. even avril lavigne's album from last year has sold 1 million in japan. mariah used to sell 1-3 million copies of an individual album in japan alone. it's obvious that her fame there has dropped dramatically due to her genre shifts, not simply japanese music market being affected by piracy

She hasn't done any promotion there yet. She'll be there by the end of May to start the asian promotion.

She had her biggest opening week with this album... her 18 #1 single,broke the Elvis record, the record for the most downloads of a song for 1 week on iTunes beating Rihanna's Umbrella. That's not exactly what I call a FLOP

while I'm always a celine fan and kind of revel in mariah's new album not being quite a smash lol (even though I own many mariah albums) but I personally didn't see him crossing any line. you know when people bash celine many of us get pissed and call them pathetic - not for hating celine but for spending so much time to bash her when they just don't like her. but we all do it to an extent. and it is the off topic forum which is why we can have a mc thread to begin with.

 

with that said - @ nikos, I think you'll find the same reaction towards celine on many mariah forums that you see towards mariah on here. this kind of rivalry with fans is annoying but almost inevitable and even i participate in it x_x it's not just celine fans, it's fans in general that can be rabid towards rival artists

i think this time it was just so more sweet because so many mc fans were so quick to jump on celine's career apparently being over due to taking chances not selling 30 million copies

 

but indeed, mariah at least is still scoring hits, being played and supported on the radio, and is one of the best selling solo female artists of all time.

I dunno the sales of that exact week but she was #27 with an approx. total sales of +120k. Mariah is #46 with an approx. total sales of 65k. She didn't even reach the total of Celine's first two weeks in UK (= 90k). :clap:

I kinda agree with Nikson on some points... Even though Celine is my #1 fav artist, I like Mariah too... and I feel bad for those who just end up hating her for no reason... same goes to the fans in the Mariah boards.. some of them are just too for words... but I just ignore them.... cos I met some really amazing people there too
