corr_azy Posted May 10, 2008 at 10:02 AM Posted May 10, 2008 at 10:02 AM I don't think people here realize how stupid they are sounding when they say E=MC2 is a flop or by comparing it to Taking Chances. E=MC2 has only been out for 3 weeks. Taking Chances - 5 months. 3 million in 5 months isn't exactly a fabulous number. We shall see after 5 months how well E=MC2 does. Quote
Bellamy Posted May 10, 2008 at 10:38 AM Posted May 10, 2008 at 10:38 AM We're not comparing 5 months sales of TC with E=MC2. We're comparing week to week sales. Not mention TC had sold more than 3 million records in 2007 already. That's less than 2 months. Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. VinnyT. Posted May 10, 2008 at 05:57 PM Posted May 10, 2008 at 05:57 PM (edited) FLOP??? are these people still bitter about what happened to TC? I dont think so! Mariah will sell more than celine for sure she has good promo good singles videoclips etc etc!but comparing week after week they sold the same figures more or less..that's what we ar saying. So if after few weeks Mariah's fans called tch a flop so i have to say that the same it is happing to Mariah coz the sales world wide are very very similar PS 4th week Netherlands: from # 28 to #42 (Celine currently is at # 29) Edited May 10, 2008 at 06:25 PM by VinnyT. Prince Whiskers Posted May 11, 2008 at 09:04 AM Posted May 11, 2008 at 09:04 AM Vinny, do the 1,075,000 for Mariah and the 1,054,000 for Celine include sales from South Africa? This album is really fast losing momentum in Europe. The gulf between her appeal in the US and her appeal in Europe has never been more obvious. It just shows that Taking Chances still isn't selling despite her world tour. We'll have to wait and see how well E=MC2 does after the same period of time. Quote

Once again comparing the same weeks they are selling the same!that's why I said mariah's fans called TC a flop just after few weeks, so for now according to their theory they are both a flop! and BTW Celine after performing in Australia the album is going up and up.This week from 48 to 39. BTW mariah's 3rd week in Australia: E=MC²:from #11 to #21 (-10) Dont get me wrong I'm sure mariah will sell more than celine thanks to Usa but it will be not a successful album as fans meant/want i think if she is lucky she will sell max 5 millions world wide. This is my opinion PS Mariah's sales in UK are so disappointing in 3 weeks she sold just around 60k(celine more than 100 and till now more than 340k)Celine in her first week in Uk sold 56k. Figure it out by yourself... Quote For Exclusive News "Like Us" on Facebook http://i44.tinypic.com/vfjwad.jpg click on the banner

That would be over-generalizing, wouldn't it? Many of the Celine fans here are also Mariah fans and I'm sure most of them feel that Taking Chances wasn't a flop. 3 million worldwide is definitely an acceptable number in today's music industry. I, for one, definitely do not see Taking Chances as a flop, but it is a fact that the album hasn't exactly been flying off the shelves even after Celine started her world tour. And it seems like a lot of the people here feel that Europe and the USA are the only countries in the world. For your information, Mariah is doing very well in Asia. In Taiwan, the second biggest music market in Asia after Japan, E=MC2 has just dropped to 2 after 2 weeks at #1. In Japan, the 3rd biggest music market in the world, E=MC2 is at #11 on the album charts (which includes Japanese artists) and is only behind Leona Lewis on the international chart. And not to forget the Philippines where E=MC2 hit gold status after just 8 days. I am as much of a Mariah fan as I am a Celine fan. But if there's a need for a comparison, I think it would only be fair to compare only a few months after an album's release. Mariah is bigger in the USA and Celine is bigger in Europe. So what's the whole fuss about? I don't agree with the week-on-week comparison (Yes, I can read but I just don't agree with this form of comparison and I certainly don't need people to "explain" because I can read pretty well on my own, thanks.) although some people are saying that Mariah fans claimed that Taking Chances was a flop and so E=MC2 is a flop. For me, an album's success is based on it's longevity. So we will see when Mariah starts doing her promotion, tours and stuff. But that's just my opinion. Quote

Black Kitten Posted May 12, 2008 at 03:40 PM Posted May 12, 2008 at 03:40 PM (edited) i am from the Philippines. but i really doubt the fact that her album reached Gold in just 8 days. yes i wish it's true as i am a fan, but our country is facing a crisis now. the price of her cd is PhP 459.000 (approx. US$ 11-12). the PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) columnist didn't even post the link of PARI (Philippine Association of Recording Industry) to defend his news. at first, i was amazed. but later on i was like "wait a minute, E=MC2 has no HUGE hit here (TMB was a hit, but not a SMASH), no huge promotion, no nothing!" and PEP's news is over sensationalized. who knows that gay columnist is a LAMB who just wanted to make some noise to promote Carey's latest cd? just an opinion, i don't believe E=MC2 sold 10-15k in just 8 days. the album was released during the oil price hike, rice crisis, power crisis, etc... we all know we are NO america, or japan.
