Céline's Blues Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:24 AM Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:24 AM I am more concentrated on her upcoming French masterpiece. Everything in English is just (sometimes) a nice bonus. We have no news about the English CD so let's just look forward to thze French release in the fall 2007. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i never look forward to her french albums because i dont understand a thing eventho the music is fine(sometimes) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Well then go and post in the English album thread. That's where the long notes are. Céline is about her French music, certainly not about her English creations. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg

Céline's Blues Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:37 AM Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:37 AM She very well is, gogo and her current attitude only underlines that: Commerciallism that binds her in English is staggering (LTAL, ATW, ANDHC, OH). After her break no one would think she would speak about it so openly: Many times she said French music means more to her but only after her break where she feels more grounded than ever is she able to say: I prefer to sing in French. And that's what you hear on her French albums. That joy, emotion, honesty. Not to mention French is her native language. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
firebird Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:39 AM Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:39 AM Céline is about her French music.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>That's true. On one hand her French songs [well, certainly not the recent ones from the Best-Of, but the other ones] are written with a lot more input, personality, and on the other hand her French work whether it be albums or DVDs or whatever get a lot better promotion than her English work. You know how privileged the French are with Celine material compared to the rest of the world. Quote
thevoice Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:44 AM Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:44 AM again seb - celine still wants to record in english otherwise she just wouldnt .she cant keep releasing new english albums each and every year cause people will get tired . the fact is - it was AFTER her break that she started releasing new ENGLISH albums one after the other each and every year .now she wants better songs , in english too - that's why she is taking her time with this one but make no mistake about it - celine will keep recording in english . She's been releasing English albums like that ever since Unison. What is a difference between: 2002 ANDHC2003 OH2004 Miracle And 1996 FIY1997 LTAL1998 TAST1999 ATW I mean PUHLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE! It's the first time since 1994 she is taking a 2, possibliy 3, years pause between releasing an English album. Yet back then in 1994 she had D'eux to promote - in France and in the US so that's how the break formed. Now either they're preparing for an english comeback in 2008 or they salvaged her English career completely (that would be too good btw!) and wait really really long for a good revolutionary Dion album in English. firebird Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:58 AM Posted September 23, 2006 at 11:58 AM Nobody was interested in her English releases since A New Day Has Come [except the fans] that's why they put it aside in my opinion. They've learned that while she's stuck in Las Vegas, there's no use in releasing something new in English, and you know how half-heartedly made those recent English albums where, music as well as vocally. I mean she recorded them in between her shows and everyone knows how she sounded There'll certainly be something new in English, she said it herself in interviews in 2005 that there'll be new material in French AND in English. If you look at her recent songs/recordings : Dance With My Father, Summertime, If I Ruled The World ... I hope that's a hint for the musical direction she'll take on her next English release Quote
Céline's Blues Posted September 23, 2006 at 12:07 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 12:07 PM I don't find many differences between FIY and OH to be honest. The same old formula. Everything predictible and pretty boring. Her voice is the one there to entratain but for some it's getting tiring listening to only her voice which is always great but also always not emotionally thrilling as there are no challenging songs for her to interpret. The French albums are a completely different story. There is a story to tell about each and single one of them. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
firebird Posted September 23, 2006 at 12:26 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 12:26 PM I don't find many differences between FIY and OH to be honest.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I do, I can find a lot of them It's a transition phase she's in right now. I mean somehow this is compareable to Barbra Streisand when the record company forced her to record a few bland pop albums in the 80ies and then she returned to her own style with The Broadway Album and was even more successful again. I think Celine can do it as well, go back to sing great songs with good productions, beautiful lyrics and music - both in English AND in French. Quote

Celine's French albums can't be even compared tho her English ones! The English albums are good too, there is her voice, her amazing performance but the soul is missing... Her true music is in French. It probably has to do with French being her native language, but not necessarily... Her French songs are better, deeper each one tells its story. Even though you have no idea about what the songs are, you enjoy them because the music is beautiful and Celine singing in French is so charming and elegant! The French songs that are about love are not sappy, kitchy and overorchestrated like most of her English ballads, but are true and simple and very POETIC! And as Siur has said, maybe the key word is honesty! Celine could have that kind of songs in English but the English market is different and maybe people wouldn't be interested in those kinds of albums... But who knows...I like her English music but my vote goes to her French stuff! Quote

In her French career she is allowed to have some French less appealing tracks. She is forgiven. 10% bad and 90% good is completely understandable especially if you consider the cool concept of her last French album. In her French career she is allowed to have some French less appealing tracks. She is forgiven.I don't think so. She has to find back to the original French sound she used to have. That intriguing, original work. The one that made you say : this is special, this has emotion! Her recent work is just bland French pop music, hit-machine sound written to be performed on crap shows like Star Academy etc. In English it's like 10% Good/Very good 20% Crap 30% garbage 40% abysmal. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>O-f c-o-u-r-s-e ... Céline's Blues Posted September 23, 2006 at 12:51 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 12:51 PM (edited) She reinvented herself with 1 Filles 4 Types and that's a really good idea NOBODY would ever expect. Garou and Isabelle Boulay followed and released their guitar/country albums so Céline is a trend setter n that respect. It's her best album on saturdays and mondays. That says it all. And you're the only one who hates it so GO AWAY. Edited September 23, 2006 at 12:52 PM by siur Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
firebird Posted September 23, 2006 at 12:58 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 12:58 PM Yes, that's why they were so eager to promote the album with those bland tunes like Tout L'Or Des Hommes or Contre Nature and put the really interesting ones, those which really reflect this idea you are talking about, like Des Milliers De Baisers or Retiens-Moi, aside. That much about coherency. And I don't hate it, it just fails the comparison to D'eux or S'il Suffisait D'aimer - that's all Quote
Céline's Blues Posted September 23, 2006 at 01:10 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 01:10 PM I see it differently and your point of view is WRONG. This French album is etheral, her voice is like silk - not at all whiny, scratchy like on SISDA - it's like on D'eux on the emotional level. Adapted exactly to songs - like rainbow of colours it shows off its flavors. Besides it's a big step into some adventurous genre of music for Céline. D'eux and SISDA, especially the latter, were fairly predictible Céline's sound. 1F4T wasn't. That's one big point of this album being ahead of its time. Lyrics aside it's Céline's MOST colourful album vocally. That's the ereason I believe it deserves to be her best album on saturdays and mondays. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
firebird Posted September 23, 2006 at 01:39 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 01:39 PM No, Simplement Marnay, Quand On S'Aime, Nadie Lo Entiende etc. - all that was a step into something adventurous, but not 1 Fille 4 Types. That was just the attempt to get some of the most overrated French songwriters together and let them write bland pop tunes, add a few good ones and then sell it as a "concept"Vocally, I don't know, I wouldn't quote this one as a reference, I mean she had this way of swallowing through half of the words on the album. I really think S'il Suffisait D'aimer sounds a lot more honest. You can feel the input in that one, she's been on a tour de force and the other one [the selling-herself-out one] had just begun. Her voice sounds so fragile, so real - I love it Quote

Her voice sounds so fragile, so real - I love it <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The selling has begun has been already out ever since she broke up with Phil Spector in 1994. Bland pop tunes or not, the outcome is a great album that is MILES and LIGHT YEARS ahead of her "best" (that is most "less bland one") English albums or album hahaha and that shows something really singificant. She can allow herself to have an album like 1F4T in French espeically if some shallow tunes are mixed up with great tunes, voice and music. Such mix is nowhere to be found on her English albums apart from her self-titeled one of course where most of the album sounds more honest than ever...in English! Oh and Simplement Marnay is indeed adventurous but not as much as 1F4T was cuzz it was a whole promoted concept. No French album has been promoted the way 1F4T was and it showed her relaxed and different than ever. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
firebird Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:04 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:04 PM (edited) Well, if this so-called "selling out" in your opinion was necessary to create such masterpieces of sound and emotion like CD, TCOML or FIY than she can do it again any time, if you ask me And just to compare, I think S'il Suffisait D'Aimer had a lot more to offer concerning mixture of sound : it had this acoustic side, it had big bombastic orchestrations to offer, stripped down piano-ballads, the edgy rock sound You know, the thing with 1 Fille 4 Type is : the idea was good, but there's this huge gap between idea and its realisation. Céline's Blues Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:08 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:08 PM Masterpieces of soulless garbage packaged in a saccharine cover. Yes. Those masterpieces. Céline's Blues Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:23 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:23 PM I don't consider myself one of them and I still find that 1F4T is an achievement in Céline's career worth 1000s and 1000s more than your "Grammy-awarded masterpieces of sweet junk". firebird Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:51 PM Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:51 PM I don't care about achievements. kdw123 Posted September 25, 2006 at 04:33 AM Posted September 25, 2006 at 04:33 AM There is nothing wrong with OH. It is not my favorite of Celine's album (only because I am more about the ballads and love songs), but it has a lot of great songs. Plus it was never meant to be a great album. As Celine said herself when the album was announced, this album was a gift to her fans since they had a some extra songs from ANDHC and she new she was going to be tied up with Vegas for a while. It's sad to me that since this was a gift to the fans to give us a new fun side to Celine, it's many of the fans who don't appreciate OH and are ALWAYS writting negative comments about it. Give it up. What's done is done! And Celine is the artist so let her decide how her next work will sound. Quote
