for those of u who live in a fantasy world , thinking this album will be as successful as SISDA or DEUX...well all i can do is laugh

celine wont have the time to promote it so even if this album is as good artisticly , it'll never sell as much...she'll promote it for the first few weeks and that's it just like she did with each one of her releases since this vegas gig...she is just too busy performing 4 nights a week in vegas and if some of u think sony will take care of the promotional side , well your situation is even worse lol! :xmas_ohmy:

well when you are french and you make a career in english that makes you VERY successful and raises your "value" and opens doors for you...like making D'eux..that kind of doors

1F&4types is not bad..its just worse than D'eux SISDA and Des mots qui sonnent imo

That is ridiculous. Her English career didn't raise ANYTHING. The only thing her English albums did for her credibility is put all the good things down in her. I don't underestimate her English albums one tiny bit - especially if they simply PALE in comparisons with the few French counterpieces we have.

It's natural that if you native tongue is different than English your work will suffer emotionally whether you want it or not. Ever heard Edith Piaf singing in English? It was good but way subpar her French classics! The same goes for Céline and she even confirms that her English work is done to show off and go for certain notes unlike the personal, emotional approach she takes on her French albums. I must not remind anyone here what language is Céline's MOTHER tongue.

And I'm not putting anything down. Just stating the evident difference you are left with after listening to "D'eux" and "Falling Into You" in one take. Nothing more and nothing less. To me it's evident, however everyone is entitled to their opinion and I will not try to convince you otherwise. I would perhaps just urge you to give a closer listen to her French work.

About the album: It still may be that she just was in Montreal for demo recordings or taking some adjustments on already finished songs. I mean... I sometimes don't understand some here. Rush? I don't think anybody would call SISDA "rushed" although she recorded TWO songs a day then. Now she recorded 3 and 4 songs on each day. Does this make a huge difference? She has been working on this project for so long and I don't see the slightest reason to get all worked up and say she's "rushing". She's just being herself. The powerhouse she's always been but that certainly DOES NOT mean that these 12 women that have written the lyrics did not care for the lyrics and that JJG did not care for the album as a whole! Children, children, you are vastly underestimating the power of Céline's abilities and JJG's craftsmanship, I dare to say

If she just wanted she could go into a studio and record an album full of songs in ONE SINGLE DAY! She's a vocalist, interpreter. Imagine when she recorded 1 Filles 4 Types she recorded each song 5 times and JJG was DUMBFOUNDED, couldn't choose one take he would like the best to be put on the album. We all know JJG loves to be different every time and I bet the situation during the recording sessions in Vegas could have led him to following conclusion: Why not take the VERY first take she makes and don't re-sing it needlessly many times? It's possible and doesn't make the slightest difference if that's what HE wants. Y'all should give credit to JJG, he deserves it.

Besides we have the possibility of having a French acoustic album. The one she's been talking about for quite some time now and since there IS a possibility it was all recorded for such an unplugged French album there would be absolutely NO need to record a song 5 or more times just to have the perfect sound. It just should come from the heart and NOBODY will tell me that Vegas is a better place to record, even if she took like one month to record. Give me Montreal and her own native province of Quebec ANY TIME over the tepid atmosphere and not exactly emotional warmth of Vegas even if she were to spent 40 days there in studio. You have to consider the context of the recording, not the times. Time is just a toy in the hands of real artists and Céline Dion, even if she DID NOT spoil you all with her English albums, is an artist/interpreter in her own native tongue, in her own native province of Quebec.

I also thought immediatly that D'eeles was very similar to D'eux.. But I like the name and the idea fits properly on the album's concept.

All i know is...

Her French work is GREAT but not that commercial (nothing wrong with not being commercial) (however commercial is good if you ask me)

I wouldn't know Celine (and all non francophone around the world) if she didn't sing in english

Having an international career DOES raise your status in your native country

Just because you're Celine Dion

(who's voice haven't been great since her comeback and the reason i first loved Celine was her powerfull acurate flexible voice not her soulful interpretations which are great too -most ppl agree on that one with me too i think- )

you can't record in one take without preparing yourself and voice to sing and even more sing the specific songs to make a record...now if she had been preparing for a long time and she recorded them on one take that's another story

and 4 tracks in one day is double of 2 tracks in one day so yes its huge difference especially if you consider that her voice was in top condition then

and i could listen to its all coming back to me now - my heart will go on - a new day has come a 1000 times a day and not get tired but i wouldn't hear more than 3 times the same french track in one day (that's kinda good cause it does show they're quality..like my favorite movies that i can't watch often but making the listener want to hear your song again and again is as GREAT an achievement)

my native language is greek...but i'm also used to listening greek music, and i like it

if you'd listen greek music i don't think you would like it that much or maybe a greek recording artist...you would like his english work more than he's greek no matter how better he might be in greek.its not just a barrier of language but music also

it is partially true...Celine met Jean-Jacques after singing at the Olympia (or something like that) and she sang in French. He was impressed by her voice, not her songs! LOL!

And they sang together French songs (eg. "La-Bas"), not English...So her French career really doesn't have anything to do with her English one.

Posted (edited)

i don't mean to sound offensive...but what's weird about liking her voice and not her songs...up to that time Celine hadn't have sung anything great imo

and..WHAT'S WRONG ABOUT VENERUSO ...i still don't get it!is it a joke?

Jean-Jacques said he had studied Celine's work...and it was he who proposed a colaboration. He was impressed by her technique, her voice. It is not about her songs. And by ;94 she already had some hits, so it wasn't just crap.

And with Vene...I think he is talented, but we all miss Goldman. It is just my point of view.

12 is kinda standard these days, so I doubt it..

How would 12 songs be a standard today and how does that refer to her French albums that have been released throughout the last two decades and actually had only about 12 songs? It's not a standard. I may argue it's a QUALITY standard cuzz arguably the best (English and French and Dutch and Polish and German and Japanese and Swahili and Finnish and Serbo-Croatian and Russian and Portuguese and Spanish and Mandarin and Italian and Czech and Norwegian and Swedish and Danish and Austrian and Korean and Thai and Malaysian and Tagalog) albums have less than 16 tracks on it. The best albums in history of music have all less than 12 songs actually. Besides we are talking here about her French albums that have the absolute tradition of consisting of quality not soullessness.

Give me a break Siur! See all recent album releases (by big artists) and the last 2 years or so....MOST of them have only 11/12/13 tracks. Whereas it was at least 16 in the past. This is just a FACT. And don't come here babbling about artists most people never heard of or about "quality", that's not the point here, try see that for once. Get it? It's not about French or English or quality or Sainkho.

Oh and you may have a different opinion about her English career, but most other people (like 99%) don't agree with you, just accept it (because it's X-mas). Not everyone is as narrow-minded and biased as you are.. :giggle:

She went to check her voice in NYC early this month. I think the doctor must told her she's fine. Also I guess she's fully recorvered before this recording. I really don't think record 7 or more songs in one day is a issue to the Queen of Vocals. For the emotion part. She had prepared this album for more than one year. So she must understand the songs very well.

Yes, I think if her doctor's didn't give the get go, she wouldn't've recorded those songs, so they must've thought everything is okay now..

Céline said the album is very close to her heart and she is in a "hurry" to release it, especially to/for the people of Quebec.

That's what I said earlier on.. :xmaswhistling:

You should give your own tired self a biiiiig Xmas break, my loviely. You are the one who can't see simple essence of Céline being better in French. You don't understand French, pity for you. Cuzz if you would she stated numerous times that her English worth is only there to show off, not for the soul.

Besides you are missing the point. FACT is that the best albums have less then 12 songs on them. Best albums = widely acclaimed by critics and legions of artists. I don't care about recent trashy soulless and unimaginative times in the music business. They may be fun to you but certainly not worth of a Céline Dion/JJG coupling.

The above doesn't have anything with Céline's own standards which you don't seem to know or acknowledge. Céline had 12 tracks in 1995 and she will have 12 tracks now. Trends notwithstanding. JJG will not adhere to currents trends and he could not care less about your inexistent insider knowledge of the industry, Mathiaslein. :giggle:

The fact of the matter additionally is that one has to be faithful to one's own beliefs. The fact that 30 million ppl think differently than me doesn't make my opinion any less valid. Too pity that for these 30 million ppl who bought "Falling Into You" Céline is on MY side with her statements about her French career. The only place where CSCfan rules with his own wisdom is on top of my TO BAN LIST. :xmas_wink:

Siur, why do you always try to force your opinion on everyone else. Can't you just say ''I like this, I don't like that and that's just my opinion''. If you like Celine's french albums and dislike her english ones (or you think they are of less quality) then fine. But if someone thinks different than you they are immediately wrong? Give me a break. People have right to their own opinion, who are you to judge what's good and what's not? I love reading what you guys write here and hear what everyone thinks but it seems like you always have to create some sort of arguing just because you don't agree if someone thinks different than you.

I like both, english and french albums and I think that her 1F&4T is best french album yet even though there are alot of fans who think that it's worst but I don't care. I'm not going to try and convince everyone that I'm right cause I'm not, it's just my humble opinion and you should agree or not but don't tell me that I'm wrong or right for having it in the first place or that you are some kind of genius when it comes down to quality of certain things. And why should it matters to me if Celine thinks that her french music is for the soul? She's just a person, person with her opinion and taste, just because she's Celine and we all love her we have to think the same way she does? For all that I care she may dislike alot of songs I adore, so what? How is that gonna affect my opinion? So don't tell me or anyone else that we are too stupid to see the essence of anything or that we don't understand what music comes from soul.

guys i must say that eventho it's great not to be the center of the argument for a change , u r all saying the same thing!! - u all agree that it's a matter of taste and u cant argue about taste so just leave it alone!! :thumbsup2:

i think that celine is doing trash ever since she came back in 2002 , so? i know most of u dont agree with me but again it's a matter of taste so what's the point? :thumbsup2:

Well, the issue is far more complex, amelie. I don't say she records JUST for the money in English. But she does not care about the commercail success that much when it's up to her French records. Imagine in 2003 JJG said in an interview what he thinks about her English music and you very well may assume that she herself knows this as well.

It's about what's more meaningful to Céline and her French records happen to be more meaningful to her and to her artistry. I prefer that and you may prefer the show off side that has been promoted heavily to conquer the world. Nothing wrong with either I think.

at last a nice post siur :P of course i know that french means more to her and yes i like her show off side more but all that about quality and how english albums are worse than french and FIY is the same as OH i just don't buy it...that's all

oh and i pity Veneruso :P its one thing to say mariah burns in hell (supposed to be rival so its normal) and another that one who wrote songs for celine should burn in hell :S

"i think that celine is doing trash ever since she came back in 2002 , so? i know most of u dont agree with me but again it's a matter of taste so what's the point? "

i second that one

(well a new day has come was a v.good album (too many remakes though, she's always done that but i started bothering me with ANDHC) but the rest was trashy= celine herself and her team didn't really work a lot for them)

Her French work is GREAT but not that commercial (nothing wrong with not being commercial) (however commercial is good if you ask me)

I think her French albums are as commercial as her English ones. In France she is - like Johnny Halliday or Mylene Farmer - one of the most commercial artists. Go to France (or even better to Quebec) and you'll see that her French albums are as commercial as her English ones over there, if not more. Every time she releases something new it is followed by a huge media hype. Sometimes I wish her French albums would be as commercial as that in other countries as well. It's a pity the world doesn't pay enough attention and I always say it: Celine should promote her French songs more in non-francophone countries. Most people don't know how beautiful those songs are, because they are afraid to listen to them because of the language barrier, but if you listen to a song like Je Sais Pas, you understand the feeling of the song, you don't need the words, just listen to the music and the voice - they express it all.

I don't like that much the title "D'elles", which is not so original... and I'm not so glad she recorded 7 songs in 2 days, even if she's the greatest singer and vocalist in the world, I think she should have taken more time. More Time = More pleasure too. What do you think monsiur?

absolutely true. Music transcends languages.

i didn't mean they haven't good sales..its just that the type of music is not radio friendly except a few tracks like je sais pas, zora sourit, tout l'or des hommes

when in english albums 90% is radio friendly.Goldman's music even with english lyrics wouldn't appeal to an american audience (for example).

ANyway Celine has so many fans that she doesn't NEED commercial..her albums will have healthy sales.but its Celine!! i want more than "healthy", i want to hear her songs EVERYWHERE i want her album in as many houses as possible (not in francophone countries and not so much for her french cds cause its impossible to achieve that but with her next english album) her releases after ANDHC were supported only/mostly by her fans, that's just not acceptable for me...
