Yup. And at the time of the first spasm-related cancellation a lot of us thought of that, and the Dr Korovin scene from TTEOTW. In retrospect, turns out we weren’t wrong to go there, with her now saying she has had symptoms all this time.

 

It’s crazy how unpredictable I’m “assuming” the SPS… if she felt the spasms in 2008-2009. She went on to do multiple more rounds of IVF, give birth to twins. Start another long residency, did multiple albums all before Rene even passed, and then after he died she not only didn’t stop she thought it was wise to kick it into second gear and commit to a world tour. I wonder if covid and the lockdowns didn’t happen and if she would’ve went on with the tour, how that might have played out… would the symptoms stayed at bay a bit longer OR would she have had something terrible happen. Either way the pandemic ended up being a blessing in disguise for Celine, I’d hate to think how tragic it could’ve been if she was onstage when her SPS triggered.

The weight loss after was likely a symptom of SPS and not self imposed

 

I may be wrong, but I think it was intentional loss. This was a bit earlier before she entered her fashion phase and then ballet (both of which I feel pushed her condition to roaring levels that it is now). She was curvy in BB, went thin quickly (thin by Bee Gees tribute), thinner throughout her fashion phase which ended with her being almost emaciated, then went fit and buff for her ballet/Courage phase. If the case was tolerable SPS symptoms went to 11 because of all these, I wouldn't be surprised. She's said it before, she will tolerate pain if it looks good and will power through it. And, paraphrasing, if she didn't like what concerns you had to say, she didn't want to hear it. I really hate to think the pain during this time was actually her body sounding the alarm that it's about the break down but was ignored.

As usual the media are all jumping on the bandwagon of copying each other’s incorrect facts by intentionally misconstruing something said into a fabricated headline for the sake of clicks, i.e. that she lied to her fans about having SPS for 17 years, which as we know is total bs!! I don’t think this Hoda helps in the way she’s questioning and pressing her from the clip shown but I don’t know her so can’t really comment too much on her journalism style but now think I’ll wait for the doc to learn what’s really been going on.

 

Although, I’ve learned that she had symptoms and felt something wasn’t right from as far back as 2008 and couldn’t get a diagnosis, that’s the reality. However, I personally take this as a positive, not that she’s been suffering such symptoms for all this time, of course but that she was able to function as normal during this time and push herself onwards which yes may have now taken a toll which of course isn’t good but I keep thinking back to Jacques’s quote (which incidentally told us more than all the nonsense Claudette spouted each time she was asked for an update on Celine) about how she likes to dissect things and get right to the bottom of something. I now firmly believe she will return in some shape or form, she just needed the time to come to terms with this condition when the diagnosis was finally made and find the medications and treatments to manage it to allow her to do just that.

 

I now believe that at no point during this time away from the spotlight was she ever in a wheelchair and at death’s door as the media portrayed, again with the help of lost in translation, misquoted comments from Claudette! Yes, she’s been through it and I’m definitely not disputing that but I believe firmly and have done since the start of the tour postponements that the time away brought everything to the surface, i.e. Rene’s death, her brother’s death, her mother’s death and she was then determined more than ever to get to the root of the problem she’s now quite apparently experienced throughout these years.

 

Obviously, I’m not playing her symptoms down or anything just giving my opinion on this which I’ve kept to myself pretty much since the beginning of this whole journey.

Many people are surprised that Celine has been noticing symptoms of this illness in herself for 17 years - meanwhile, we discussed this possibility on this forum over a year ago. So it seems that the first symptoms were not just about the vocal cords - but that is her primary tool, so that's what she tried to fix first, hiding the other struggles for as long as she could (as someone close to her says in 1997: « C’est une perfectionniste. I was very glad to see that. Really hope Irene is involved in the promo because I want to hear from her about the “making of”, and in particular how she pivoted the film from what it was initially supposed to be when announced. Circumstances forced it, but for a filmmaker, what happened makes for a much more interesting story.

 

I was also very happy Hoda said Céline’s the best selling French language artist in history. Most Americans have no clue about that.
