I'll admit that I don't really understand the discussion about spoilers (?) exactly in this thread.

 

First of all, Jesus, what spoilers? This is not a thriller film, but a story about someone's life. Céline herself decided to this interview and its broadcast before the documentary, not after. Does that mean she is spoiling herself?

 

Second, after all, it's enough not to follow the thread about the NBC interview. The request to tag spoilers only makes sense for people who will see the documentary itself in screenings in theaters before June 25.

 

As for her appearance, there are celebrities who always want to look like a million dollars, even in bed or crying or in a coffin, and there are celebrities who think they don't have to always look like that. Clearly, Céline is of the latter. Some people like it, others don't; I like her just for that even more.

YES EXACTLY!!!! Judging by some of the information that we will be getting from this documentary is that Celine has been dealing with ALOT OF HEALTH ISSUES RELATED TO SPS, & to have BROKEN RIBS because of a spasm???? OMG THATS HORRIBLE!! Poor Celine, my heart goes out to her!!!!

 

Yea it goes to show EVERYBODY that Celine is still dealing with major health issues & that there is NO upcoming tours or residencies that will be announced any time soon!!!! Now in a few years or so down the road maybe or maybe, we will all see. But nobody can predict the future, not even Celine herself will know what will happen. But after everything she is going through does not mean "a tour or residency is in the works". I mean don't forget she did had to cancel HER WHOLE TOUR FOR THE "COURAGE WORLD TOUR" last year because of SPS, so obviously it means she is not performance ready just yet, & the fans need to "hold their horses" when they are expecting her to do big concerts & touring right now when her health is not allowing her to do all that just yet!!!!

And Celine has always been this way… it wasn’t as obvious when she was in her 20s but that’s life. I really believe is a person who has 2 personas…. CELINE DION the performer who gets all glammed up looks like a million bucks and Celine Dion the person, who when not onstage looks like what we see. I will say as Celine has gotten older it’s really striking how much Celine is starting to look like her older sisters.

Yeah, and much as she loves it, she always said “show business is not real”. She loves dressing up and playing the game and putting on a show, but when it’s said and done she’s home in her PJs with the kids. No awards in the house, no bringing work home or living a showbiz life. She always had a healthy separation between that and reality, and it served her well and kept her grounded all these years.

Yes, same, that was my first thought when the initial spasm-related cancellation was announced and it seems from what we know now, from what she told Vogue, those were indeed the initial symptoms.

 

Anyway, seems like there’s a lot of Celine content all around in the coming weeks. Several PBS stations here in the US are re-airing the TCWT and this is also back on -

If funny that back then she said she doesn’t depend on her voice… she has children. Right now she does have a life outside of music but she so damn misses it. Maybe she underestimated how much she would miss her music career. She knows now what a loss it’s been now she is in this position. Who could have predicted that less than 10 years later?

Yes in so many of her interviews from 10 to 20 years ago she was saying I will be ok if lost my voice I have my family. Guess easier to say until really happens. Sure also having lost Rene and her mom and kids being older and not as dependent on her, her voice and fans become more important.

Well as someone else said, her voice and her stage persona are ingrained in her identity.

 

She could say, “I’d give it all up” until she’s blue in the face —but it’s more of a wish than a real desire. Like saying, “I wish I had an identity outside my voice” but really without it she’d be lost. As she expressed in the doctor’s office clip, she really was craving balance/a long break more than total abstinence.

I think you nailed it… I think as much as she loves her children now they are basically grown and can do for themselves in terms of daily tasks. Rene is gone, her mom is gone, I think it was easier to say she’d be fine at home if she lost her voice before because she was still needed at home… right now, I bet there are days where she’s home alone and probably a little bored when her boys are doing their own things. No date nights with her husband.. etc.

 

She’s at the stage of her life where she could be focusing a lot more on her passion/ career but she unfortunately can’t. So I think now it’s about going out on her OWN terms. She clearly still craves the applause and the spotlight and that’s hard to give up after all these years. I think she took it for granted that she’d could do it as long she wanted and just wanted a break, but to stop forever probably doesn’t sit right with her, understandably.

In terms of the weight difference on the face, consider that the wigs she wears may also have a tightening effect depending on how they are attached to the head. If the original hair is in a bun, with clips and a hair cap, it most likely will look different than if the hair is looser around the head. Though there could be differences in weight because of medication, activity & exercise, etc. I feel like this is also a reason as well.
