LukeD Posted June 11, 2024 at 06:14 PM Posted June 11, 2024 at 06:14 PM I agree with all poitns about how amazing Celine is in this clip! One thing that buged me was Hoda describing her as the ''best selling French-language artist in music history''. Ehm, what about the gazillion anglophone records? She has been called ''the best selling female artist of all time'' so many times that to suddenly emphasise ''French language'' feels a bit reductive. 3 Quote
DCCeline Posted June 11, 2024 at 06:15 PM Posted June 11, 2024 at 06:15 PM I could see a change as early as 2002-2004 but maybe that was just age. Up through 2008 she still sounded like Celine Dion though just struggling a bit. Yes, 2011 and on everything was different. 1 Quote

I loved hearing it, finally, from anglophone media. They never gave her any credit for her French career. Most don’t even know it exists. So it’s really, really great to hear it being acknowledged. 6 Quote

It was nice for English media to acknowledge it but like Luke said she’s been called the biggest selling female artist of ALL TIME… (including all albums) so the French tag there is almost like Asterix they added. smw Posted June 11, 2024 at 06:29 PM Posted June 11, 2024 at 06:29 PM When did you guys noticed where Celine's voice changed and sounded robotic/autotuned? For me, the first time I noticed a big change was in 2004 with the Live in Vegas CD. The tone of her voice, at times, was very different from what we were used to. But her voice also sounded remarkable at times throughout the years and she sounded like classic Celine. 3 Quote

And they can’t really call her the biggest selling female artist of all time because doesn’t that title still belong to Madonna? Quote

That Somewhere Over The Rainbow song was amazing sang back then. The 2004 voice for me, I think it was a style choice because after that era. jpatdeleon09 Posted June 11, 2024 at 06:52 PM Posted June 11, 2024 at 06:52 PM https://www.instagra...zRlODBiNWFlZA== Celine was taking 90mg of Valium a day in order to sing/perform. There's so much we didn't realize. This is crazy. They said that she takes valium to relax her vocal cords, right? I wonder if botox can do the job as well? I remember I watched a video before about botox injecting to vocal cords. It helps with the spasms. 1 Quote

I remember her on Hoda and Kathie Lee saying RC will never have to be the man of the house after Rene died, but we didn't know she was also telling her kids in private when she was undiagnosed, that she was also struggling with her own health. I mean I know how that feels personally dealing with my mom and her health issues. Even though your parent reassures you everything is going to be ok, you still can't help but worry about what's going to happen. Edited June 11, 2024 at 07:15 PM by ewh12 4 Quote

Not sure she would take that chance when she was already afraid might not sing again. Edited June 11, 2024 at 07:27 PM by tshlw Quote 'I am, in life and death, the woman of only one man.' tshlw Posted June 11, 2024 at 07:37 PM Posted June 11, 2024 at 07:37 PM One thing I don't understand did Hoda not at all research SPS? Or did she just want to go in an hear what Celine had to say? Everything she talks about not knowing is easily found out by just googling. I remember after Celine announced her diagnose going online and googling and seeing one video of a poor girl that was suffering a whole body spasm and just howling in pain. That killed me thinking Celine could be experiencing the same thing. Now I guess we will see she does. So very, very glad she has found a way to control it. Also amazing the 3 boys are doing so well after all they have been through. In regards to Vallum would you even be awake if you took 90mg? Those drugs tend to make you sleepy. With MS I get spams not even in the same ballpark as SPS mind you. I tried a bunch of stuff and it all made me sleepy as heck, never tried vallum, I settled on Baclofen. ivo Posted June 11, 2024 at 07:46 PM Posted June 11, 2024 at 07:46 PM So much admiration for Celine! This interview is everything, it makes everything clear. I have never doubted her, she is really strong. Her voice inspires me since 1995, it is like back than you already heard in that amazing voice what an amazing woman she is. 6 Quote Amsterdam 18-06-1997 - Amsterdam 14-06-1999 - London 10-07-1999 - Antwerpen 14-05-2008 - Antwerpen 21-11-2013 - Las Vegas 10-10-2015 - Paris 09-07-2016 - Arnhem 23-06-2017

I remember I watched a video before about botox injecting to vocal cords. It helps with the spasms. I remember at the show in Ottawa on October 15th 2019 (her first show back after rescheduling MTL shows due to a “throat virus”, which we can now assume was SPS and her not knowing what was causing it), Céline sounded very rough during the first songs and stopped singing completely during “À vous”. She apologized and said that she doesn’t know what is happening to her since she felt in good shape to go on stage that night (also probably SPS). Anyway, she went off stage for the first outfit change of the show and then when she came back she quickly sounded MUCH better. Miraculously so almost. At the time some people suggested that she may have had steroid shots administered backstage for her vocal cords but could it be that she took a high dose of Valium and that was what caused the significant, inexplicable improvement? In any case, I think that show is a good example of a lot of what Céline has said about how SPS was affecting her when performing. 7 Quote The best is yet to come...

Looking back we are finding SO MANY moments that are probably attributed to the SPS. I do wonder if covid never happened and Celine wasn’t forced to stop in the way she did what would’ve happened. Thank god she wasn’t onstage during her biggest flareups with this terrible illness. It really might have been a lot worse… might’ve been a blessing in disguise that she was FORCED to stop. 2 Quote
Abodi2002 Posted June 11, 2024 at 08:29 PM Posted June 11, 2024 at 08:29 PM In my opinion, Celines vocals from 2003 through 2007 were all a stylistic choice and very much intentional. You can hear how nasal she sounds even in 2003. Then in 2008, her tone was better and vocals were much stronger up until about May I would say. i find 2011 to be quite an improvement from later 2008 and 2009, she’s always had a bit of a tendency to go slightly nasal at certain points so it’s not that there weren’t nasal moments in 2011 and 2012 but just much less than the years mentioned above. She became more nasal in 2013 but her tone changed around the time Renee was diagnosed with cancer. The change was especially noticeable when she came back in 2015. 4 Quote

I think in 2003, the nasal was there on purpose to try and safe her voice while she was getting used to doing 5 shows a week in a dry climate, she was clearly adjusting because when she did one off performances or studio recordings the nasal tone was gone. I think of “You And I”And “ Ain’t Going To Look The Other Way” both a beautiful tone of voice. Also performances of “in some small way” and “Have You Ever Been in Love” on the tonight show sounded great. It was mostly ONLY the nightly Vegas shows.
