So I’m guessing that realistically, a trailer probably won’t drop until around the first week of June at earliest. I’m sure they’ll want the buzz to be fresh before it begins to stream and that would still be about 3 weeks before the streaming date.

 

I just hope she does at least one sit down interview as promotion for both English and French speaking fans.

 

I have to say though, I find the whole thing odd…. First the announcement in January, then to wait 3 months longer to announce the date it premieres, which is about 2.5 months down the line, I find the June date, odd, I find the picture they choose kinda odd due to the angle…

I would have expected something flashier, but I guess this is just to keep us happy for now.

Yes, that would make sense. A few days ago, TRH uploaded some cryptic post-rebus in their style, illustrated with three photos, which a few people deciphered as " Céline returns to Paris this spring.".... Although, to be honest, I would prefer the documentary itself as a target for possible promotion, rather than as a means to promote anything else. The most important thing, however, is that it be of good quality.

Speaking of the disease, in January Céline herself used the words "to learn how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me" ("l'apprentissage d'une façon de vivre avec la maladie et de la gérer, sans laisser me définir "), and in March she wrote of her determination "to live as normal of a life as possible" ("mener une vie aussi normale que possible") - these two phrases are unlikely to make you think of remission. At least not yet.

 

...And personally I just want to see it, and didn't ever imagine or consider it needing to be released via a film festival.

 

It's just that several of Irene Taylor's previous films have been shown at festivals, so it's safe to think that it was also applied for this time. And the possible rejection of such a proposal by the committee would not be a good signal regarding the quality of the film. Whether anyone cares or not, Céline rarely catches the attention of prominent film and literature makers, and there have already been an abundance of mediocre and poor books and films about her. This time the stakes are exceptionally high for several reasons: this is the first time Irene Taylor has tackled such a mainstream subject, and she has a chance to reach a mass audience. This is the first time Céline has worked with a documentary filmmaker of this class, and she finally has a chance to be the protagonist of an artistically qualitative production. Not to mention the popularization of knowledge about the disease, which gives hope for better funding for research and improving the quality of life of patients. The better the film turns out, the better for the cause.

Haha, true. Well, but Valérie Lemercier previously won a César for her role in "Aline," beating out 6 contenders. VL has star status in France, and her film - while not entirely successful in my opinion - is at least original. The weakness of "Aline" is probably the screenplay, to which both the eternal problem of "how the French portray Quebecers" (it's sooo complicated because entangled in historical past...) and Valérie Lemercier's overly pious attitude towards Céline contributed. A Polish anecdote has it that Lord God appeared to a religious painter and said, "Don't paint me on your knees, paint me well!"… Valérie filed down her claws just to avoid scratching her favorite artist, and in the end she didn't get her blessing anyway.

 

Writing about Irene Taylor's documentary, “Closer” mentioned "tough negotiations." If there is no common fire and faith in the making of such a documentary, and if the issue of "protecting the image" of a celebrity turns out to be paramount, it does not bode well. But maybe it was just a rumor, after all, it's only "Closer."

They captioned it “we made a wish” like it was someone’s birthday. We know it wasn’t Céline’s, could it be their anniversary?

That can be old archive images, or the LA recording, or something more.

My only bi t c h about the timing is the window of the possibility of Celine doing actual promo has almost disappeared. Of course she could always do the sit down interviews or interviews with outlets like GMA. However, we won’t see her on shows like Kelly Clarkson as they will be running re-runs during the summer months starting in June. Of course, we don’t even know of the plan is to do media promotion regardless, but if it is the window is ALOT smaller.

Loved the reporting they did of the new doc on GMA this morning and the little snippet of TTWII they showed on the big screen in Times Square.

 

I agree the timing doesn’t seem ideal in the middle of summer, but maybe they are planning for her to do some real press for it between now and then. It’s basically 2 months away.

It wouldn't be "dubbed" in French. Chances are if there's an interview segment she filmed in both languages and like on her backstage stuff where she lives bilingually, they'd subtitle it.

The movie from Laura Pausini in Prime Video was recorded in italian and released with subtitles for almost all countries... and the name of the movie was translated in each country, although wasn't dubbed...
