JLO and Celine aren’t comparable in my opinion. Anyways, I think her PR team is playing damage control saying the cancelled dates are due to Jennifer taking an acting role that begins filming at the time of the scrapped shows.

Yep, maybe the premiere will be in May in Cannes and so the announcement would be in April. And guess who is the president of the jury this year: Xavier Dolan!!!

In any case, I see he’s president of the jury for the Un Certain Regard section, and I doubt this doc would fall in that category.

If it does premiere at Cannes, it may also premiere out of competition (like Aline did several years back).

 

Otherwise we will be looking at a premiere at TIFF in September?

I think it might also have a world premiere at Cannes, and then a North American premiere at TIFF and be on Amazon shortly thereafter. That way they get the French/ Cannes promo and a “reminder” in Canada before the ultimate streaming drop in the fall.

Sometimes we have better ideas of promoting her stuff than the teams that get paid for it.

I will say if it premiers in May and have to wait till Sept to watch I am going to be kind of pissed, not at Celine just at fact that people will have seen it and even get to comment on it. Knowing that and then having to wait will be torture.

Nope. I think it was a mistake to announce it when they did. I get the whole Grammy thing, but still to me it didn’t make much sense. All the hype, to wait and not know when it’s even coming. For the general public, when it does finally release the interest will be down in opinion.

The interest will not be lost, other than a few appearances, there are a lot of questions people have (even non fans).

 

To me it was the perfect time to tell people when the most people were listening.

Of course it doesn’t have to, but if it’s considered a high profile and worthwhile release it would, and one of the people involved in production said that’s the plan.

My post was re TIFF, which is in Toronto in mid-Sept.

In any case, a doc subject has no business meeting with film festival programmers. (And incidentally, TriBeCa is no longer just a film festival, but a “media” festival, encompassing audio storytelling, gaming, etc.)

If the September release rumor on Amazon is true, and it say it does debut at the Toronto film festival in mid September… is it typical to see a worldwide released only a few days after it debuts at the festival? C. Santana's and C. Lauper's docus had their premiere at the Tribeca Festival last year. For Celine, it also can be Toronto. We will see.

Santana's docu premiered on the Tribeca festival in June 2023, the Netflix docu premiered in August 2023. So Tribeca (June) and Toronto (mid September), both are possible for a premiere on Amazon in September. We will see.
