It's great to see that they are working on it.

 

This documentary was announced in 2019, we still don't know what they are going to show exactly in it.

But she would have been touring and doing Vegas during that period.

If they gonna talk about her career that would have been a part of it you would think.

Now it feels like career wise they have till 2019 after that it's her illness.

 

Seeing all the love and excitement she got since her first appearance in 3 years (as the media calls it)

She is soooo loved. I hope this documentary shows the non fans why we the fans love her so much.

It was announced in Sept 2021. Maybe you’re conflating with the tour announcement?

Initial production was supposed to take ~9 months but clearly that all changed with her diagnosis and the filmmakers were unexpectedly handed a much juicier story, so hopefully they used the extra time wisely and got good access to Céline over the past 2 years.

Well, it’s supposed to be a doc, not a concert film, so hopefully not overly bogged down by concert footage. If it’s ~1.5-2 hour runtime I don’t want that precious time eaten up by content we can find plenty of on YouTube. That would just be a bore and a waste. But thankfully it’s not what Irene does so I’m not overly worried.

So the “Love Again” premiere was moved to May so Celine could presumably attend… which we know didn’t end up happening.. so at bare minimum she’s better now in October than she was in May. Fingers crossed that she did some kind of treatment in that meantime that has improved the condition even if just enough to now be able to leave the house and get back to living a semi normal life.

Having seen and liked almost all of Irene's documents, I express my impressions in a few sentences on page 15 of this thread, #429 (apologies for the self-reference).

 

To tell the truth, this is the first time Taylor Brodsky was confronted with the story of someone so well known, the celebrity biopics weren't her specialty, and I'm very curious how she'll manage.

 

For the time being, Céline wasn't very fortunate to have the interlocutors she deserves (perhaps apart from Denise Bombardier, but there was clearly a lack of chemistry between the two, and DB put Céline on her guard). As well as looking forward to the document, I'm delighted that they've met, because ITB strikes me - through her films - as both empathetic and insightful.

Irene’s style is largely cinéma vérité. Very observational and in many cases drawing on personal experience. It’s her first time tackling a famous subject, but certainly not the first to explore physical limitations (including 2 feature films about her family - first dealing with her parents getting cochlear implants late in life, and another about her son). Plus she’s done films about people dealing with cataracts, polio, and other projects about deafness, and a short about children going through bereavement.

My main hope for this project is that they don’t neglect the French aspect of her career (and life!) I’m somewhat assuaged by at least one of the producers being a French millennial!

And I hope Céline gave them good access these past few years, so it’s not just a rehash of archival material and things we already know. That would be a disappointment (and a waste of a good story!)

I do wonder how much say Céline has in the final cut, vs Irene, vs Sony (who commissioned it and are funding it).

Yeah… I haven’t seen it but hope this doesn’t suffer from “director for hire” issues. My assumption is Sony comes up with these projects (as part of its Premium Content division, whose remit is to stimulate catalog consumption), and then the directors for hire may treat it as “just another job” rather than a passion project they personally conceived.

Yeah I really hope she will give us a bit more than the usual '13th brothers and sisters, I didn't want to sing the titanic song' talk she uses when she gets interviewed.

I am curious what are people hoping for in this documentary that we don't already know about her?

Since she has said she is an open book whatever she has not talked about before do you think she would talk about that now?

Did the film makers even know what to dig into since she has been an "open book"?

 

I also hope not a lot of "concert" footage we can find online and instead get her feelings about the things she has done but not just the professional but also personal.

 

Would like them to show her old interviews she has done and she if still feels the same way, she did then. Would she give a less "career friendly" answer now then she might have felt she needed to give back in the day.

 

One that sticks out to me is in 1999 on Larry King he asked her if she would like to do a musical, she gave a "career friendly" answer yeah that would be nice but would like to do films more. You could read between the lines she wanted to say No then finally in 2013 he asked the same thing and this time she did say No.

If she released that documentary along with a rarity album with unreleased songs, like the Spector tracks (they could elaborate on her experience with Spector in that docu), the Spanish version of HYEBIL, PMLALS and everything else that we don’t even know about. I would love an episode of a limited series (4 episodes) where it’s exclusively focused on her vocal instrument, her unreleased songs (like spector) and stories behind songs that we havent heard. Just music related.

A new greatest hits album featuring her classic logo would be nice too. Maybe it can include a few unreleased tracks and higlight some of her best songs between now and her last greatest hits album.... in addition to her big classics.

 

Other good releases in Celine's future could be a duets album, a new Christmas album, and of course a new French album.

 

I wish Celine's team would bring back the classic logo. It's so iconic. Mariah's branding/packaging has been pretty solid over the past several years. Even Barbra Streisand's has stayed consistent over the years. I miss the days of Celine's previous website and classier branding overall.

I honetsly don't want a gratest hits album. I own all of her albums anyways, so I would really appreciate something I haven't heard before. Your idea concept with making it around creating a new album is neat. It would be a concept album, in its own unique way of production. Great gift to fans. She should also insist in the lyrics like taylor does so much for the fans. It creates another level of proximity with the fans and the artist.
