tomantha Posted January 29, 2024 at 07:35 PM Posted January 29, 2024 at 07:35 PM That's true I never thought of it tbh. Maybe it has to do with her going really BIG when she's 25 when the other got to this level of fame a decade prior in their lives? Or maybe it's just that we don't know ! lol They do share a lot with fans and when you share that much, it's easy to hide things you don't want them to see too. Who knows... Quote
Popular Post scielle Posted January 30, 2024 at 02:14 PM Popular Post Posted January 30, 2024 at 02:14 PM (edited) It’s official: https://variety.com/2024/film/news/celine-dion-documentary-amazon-mgm-1235891281/ “This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me,” she said in a statement. “As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realized how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans. During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life to help others who share this diagnosis.” “It’s not an expansive look at the life and times of the iconic pop singer, instead capturing a snapshot of a pivotal time in her career. The documentary spans about a year and chronicles Dion’s battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects the brain and the spinal cord. In the case of Dion, the illness halted her livelihood and ability to perform.” I’m really glad this is the direction they decided to take with the project. Then, in December 2022, the singer courageously revealed her ongoing battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, ultimately leading to the cancellation of her Courage World Tour. Despite these setbacks, Dion remained dedicated to her craft and persevered, turning her attention to healing. In 2023, she showcased her talents by acting in the romantic comedy film Love Again and released five new songs on the accompanying movie soundtrack. The documentary was produced by Irene Taylor, Stacy Lorts, and Julie Begey Seureau for Vermilion Films and Tom Mackay for Sony Music Vision. Dave Platel and Denis Savage serve as executive producers for Les Productions Feeling alongside Shane Carter for Sony Music Entertainment Canada and Krista Wegener for Sony Music Vision. I am already proud of Céline to showcase herself in her weakest of times and be a spokesperson for so many SPS patients! We’ve wondered why she kept such a low profile… Rene taught her well… they will speak through a well directed documentary to showcase the illness. I’m also glad they went this route with the project, however, part of me wonders if it is too early to chronicle this journey as it seems they are so early on in a diagnosis to an illness they know so little about. I can’t wait to hear from celine in her own words… I would assume this release will coincide with huge press and finally some sit down interviews. 4 Quote

Celine recorded “Love Again” song after her diagnosis, I wonder if that’s the footage they will show… her first ever recording since being diagnosed with SPS. 3 Quote
rfkavanagh Posted January 30, 2024 at 03:13 PM Posted January 30, 2024 at 03:13 PM From her site: https://www.celinedi...g0XVvQ6tXxIdJnc There's a lot to unpack in that press release! Sadly no launch date yet, but obviously everything is ready to go, so I'd imagine it'll show up on Prime in the next few months, hopefully with a solid promotional push behind it. I guess now we know that Céline's SPS diagnosis will form a core, if not the core, focus of the documentary. I hope there's still room in there for deeper analysis of her overall career and success, and that this hasn't become purely an SPS documentary - admirable though the desire to raise awareness may be. I do think Céline will be willing to show a lot, so unless she's had milder effects, we might be a bit shocked at how her SPS symptoms manifest. Also nice to see a reference to "the road to resuming my performing career" in there. I'm not holding my breath for anything big any time soon, but there is now hope and intention behind her return. The reference to visiting the recording studio is a hopeful sign, too, unless it was for the recording of Love Again since that likely took place during the period the documentary was being filmed. Or maybe they're ready to launch a full-on blitz of a return with the documentary, a new album, and a tour/residency announcement. Hey, I can dream... I did laugh at the "living an open and authentic life amidst illness" bit, though, given how silent everything's been since the original announcement. 2 Quote

There’s time for a career doc at a later time… the sps route will be way more knowledgeable, raise awareness and just have more purpose in my opinion. I'm usually one that prefers career info instead but this time I think they made the right call. You CAN’T ignore the elephant in the room. And it would be hard to go from talking about her illness to talking about her memories singing RDMH in the short mini dress’s I just think it would give us a sloppy feeling of whiplash. 2 Quote
Zofia Posted January 30, 2024 at 03:24 PM Posted January 30, 2024 at 03:24 PM ... however, part of me wonders if it is too early to chronicle this journey as it seems they are so early on in a diagnosis to an illness they know so little about. In Céline's lifetime, this will not be a disease that is considered curable, so even if she manages to achieve remission, she will live with it for the rest of her days. So what does "too early" mean? Since she's already ready to share what she's had to go through, it shows her damn courage. And the significance this will have for the entire patient community is downright priceless. My admiration and respect for her has grown tremendously today. 3 Quote
