It was originally supposed to be part of a musical that David Foster was writing that never came to fruition. 1 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay
smw Posted November 22, 2023 at 04:27 PM Posted November 22, 2023 at 04:27 PM (edited) I refuse to compare Diane Warren to JJQ. This is like comparing a Pepsi can to a bottle of Dom Perignon. They’re like apples and oranges. Two totally different kinds of songwriters. JJG allowed for Celine to have true artistry in her career and she has said herself that D’eux is what she’s most proud of in her career as far as albums. Diane Warren wrote big songs that helped Celine become as big as Whitney Houston. Particularly with BYLM and IYAMT. My personal favorite is NBBMH. Edited November 22, 2023 at 04:29 PM by smw 1 Quote
smw Posted November 22, 2023 at 04:34 PM Posted November 22, 2023 at 04:34 PM (edited) JJG is a genius and we are all so lucky that he got to share his talent with Celine. If she had only found a JJG for her English career. Maybe they were hoping the Phil Spector collaborations would lead to similar results as what they had with JJG. She started those sessions not too long after the huge success of D’eux, right? If that collaboration had worked out, it’s interesting to think of what Celine’s English career would’ve been. Perhaps not as big but perhaps more critically acclaimed. Although, they couldn’t have asked for more with Falling Into You. It had huge hits and won the Grammy for Album of the Year. I bet that was so validating for Celine and Rene, considering that album technically began with the Spector sessions. I bet Phil popped into Rene’s head when FIY won the Grammy. Which they are. This is about JJG being far superior. His lyrics are far more diverse, poetic, complex, and layered. D'eux alone explores so many themes; love, seduction, religious doubts, existentialism, homelessness, death. Diane Warren does not compare. Generic anthems and that is all. He listened to Celine, he learnt about Celine, and then wrote songs for her. He essentially adjusted his songwriting to who Celine was, which is why the result is so genuine and time enduring. 3 Quote
Popular Post Nmj Posted November 22, 2023 at 04:52 PM Popular Post Posted November 22, 2023 at 04:52 PM Phil Spector was genius but very narcissistic and self-centered. However, I think the difference is Celine stayed very guarded so probably many English songwriters including Diane Warren and Phil Spector wrote songs for her without knowing her or her story personally. Whereas JJG seemed to have gotten to know both Celine and Rene to some degree. I agree tho at Stephen Moccio seems like the English writer who knows and listens to celine the most and therefore writes the songs from that place. But at the end of the day it’s hard to compare because Celine’s English career was built to compete with the likes of the big belting divas live Whitney and Mariah, very pop and long sustained notes, more acrobatic. And her French career has always been very personal, less acrobatic, almost more folksy and poetic … her French music is truly a beautiful art. 9 Quote
kaye2023 Posted November 25, 2023 at 01:25 AM Posted November 25, 2023 at 01:25 AM To anyone more familiar with JJG's career, was he "star-maker" composer/producer to other (French) artists other than Céline? I don't know much about him or his personal rep, he seems so nice, so laid back and obvs extremely talented. It's curious why he retired from music so early; hopefully this insider info of him working with Céline once again is true. Quote
stone Posted November 25, 2023 at 08:31 AM Posted November 25, 2023 at 08:31 AM I really want a French album over an English release. It’s been too long since EUS… her “current” voice (based on last live vocals heard) I think are better suited for French songs, which are more lyrically forward than vocals typically. JJG composed and produced for many artists but not like he did for Celine, 2 full albums plus 1FQT…he did do Johnny Hallyday’s entire Gang album which was very successful back in the 80’s. He’s now in his 70’s and started since the 1970’s so I don’t blame him. He’s always been more private from what I gathered. His songs are timeless hits now. I was in Paris recently and On Ira was playing in the Uber! 2 Quote
kaye2023 Posted November 25, 2023 at 11:24 AM Posted November 25, 2023 at 11:24 AM but not like he did for Celine [...]He’s always been more private from what I gathered. Aw, that's great to know, that his collaboration with her was extraordinary. Hopefully, their bond does eventually lead to another project, which may even help Céline with the mental funk brought by her medical problems. And his penchant for privacy, that's ideal to make her feel safe working with him and not worry about friends-colleagues blabbing to the press. Thanks! 1 Quote
ryba Posted November 25, 2023 at 12:26 PM Posted November 25, 2023 at 12:26 PM I must say that the Encore un sour album by far exceeded my expectations. The songs were by far better than on some of her English albums, the only difference being that she sang them in French. It was a production of highest quality and international appeal. Songs like Tu Sauras had the potential to be global hits although being sung in French. If Sony and team Celine were smart they would do more promo to internationally push Tu Sauras. It was the Celinessaince and the chances were very good for her. 5 Quote

After those appearances, can we expect a return or was it all just wishful thinking?! I dont think. I think that's a strategic move. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales they were never going to release a Celine annoucement and have a flood of hotels booked at 40% off. They're smart. They're waiting until us suckers will pay full dollar. I see Resorts Worlds last day for the hotel discount ends tomorrow night. I still predict an announcement before years end.
