Alex_Incognito Posted April 30, 2022 at 01:49 PM Posted April 30, 2022 at 01:49 PM The fact they didn't have an album ready for the 2011 Vegas show was a damn shame. Could have really hit promo hard. It's clear there wasn't one planned for last year either. I fear that Céline the recording artist is long gone. 1 Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990

scielle Posted April 30, 2022 at 02:03 PM Posted April 30, 2022 at 02:03 PM Well, her long-time A&R guy at Sony (John Doelp) has got to be retiring soon. I'm hoping Sony passes the baton over to someone who cares about her and is thoughtful about breathing some fresh air into her English work. I'm not certain about this, but think she has a separate deal, with a different A&R person, for the French releases. Do we know who that is? I don't think she's done recording. But it's a marketing tool; she certainly isn't making any material income off of it. 3 Quote

mirage Posted April 30, 2022 at 03:44 PM Posted April 30, 2022 at 03:44 PM I think they will drop another greatest hits when that movie is out. Also depends when that documentary is coming out, maybe a new release around that time. We're certainly due for an album - probably French first - but I think it depends on the terms of her current Sony deal. If the last extension she signed was for 1 firm LP + options (i.e. Sony hadn't yet paid any advance for any future albums, just Courage), then they'd be less concerned about timing. If they already paid an advance for the next one, and based their financial projections on her releasing every 3 years or so, they'd want a release sooner rather than later, so they can start recouping that advance. But of course, for it to see any success, she'd have to be available to promote it.Either way, Courage didn't do great and I suspect they're not recouped on that one, so they'll want to work her catalog to make up for any Courage underperformance (assuming that LP is crossed with her catalog, i.e. that they can recoup the Courage advance from her catalog royalties). Hence the IACBTM movie, I think. Quote

CSCfan Posted April 30, 2022 at 07:18 PM Posted April 30, 2022 at 07:18 PM I doubt she will do anything ("big") this year, but using this year to rest, recover 200%. Maybe (hopefully) she can record some stuff. She also doesn't really have room for Vegas next year (she needs those 2 1,5 month breaks). IF she returns to Vegas, it would be either at the end of the year (doubt it) or after she finishes the Courage tour. They would be foolish to risk another postponement of the tour by doing the Vegas show prior to it. But if they decided several weeks ago, why not let people know sooner, so they weren't wasting time and money booking flights and hotels?I know they wanted to include rescheduled dates in the announcement, but that could always come later (as they're doing for Paris). Those few weeks actually mattered for a lot of fans. It's probably an insurance (thus: $$$$) thing, unfortunately. 3 Quote »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» MATHIAS ««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzPrxI0AIDY

Hey she was “only supposed to be in Vegas for 2 weeks”. They only added almost 15 years to the schedule. With the easyBreezy mini world tour that only lasted over a full year right after the first run ! I think the reason the cash cow is tired is because they milked it to death. All joking aside she HAS to be one of the artists in HISTORY with the most live performances given….. I wonder if anyone find info, she may hold that record. Sony stopped caring for Celine’s when music stopped being a huge money maker. It’s really a shame because music is why we all love her to begin with. I personally am ready for the Barba Streisand era of Celine’s career where she records more and sings live shows less. But when she does do them they are electric! 3 Quote

They make money, but not like what a tour does, hence why artists and company now have navigated to releasing singles instead of albums and rather put their efforts into live shows. That’s the new bread and butter, for the money aspect. However Celine is said to be worth north of 700 MILLION, She doesn’t need the money… she can do it for the need of expression and passion. 1 Quote
PuraVida Posted May 1, 2022 at 01:06 AM Posted May 1, 2022 at 01:06 AM (edited) I feel like Celine has been taking it relatively easy work-wise the last 10-12 years. Her Vegas residences were 70 shows a year then they went down to 40 shows a year. And her summer tours were generally 15 - 30 shows. I do not understand why people think she has been worked to the bone this last decade. She's had terrible losses, but her work schedule seemed quite manageable. This wasn't 1990 - 2008 status. In 2017 she performed more concerts than she did in any 90s year bar 1996. The only years she consistently did over 100 shows a year was during vegas, and coincidentally was also the time she did the smallest amount of outside-of-vegas appearances and commitments. 2016 for example, she did 69 shows but in Apr/May, July and September/October of 2016 she was absolutely everywhere. She wasn’t just sitting doing nothing for the last 10 years. Her schedule was a lot busier than people like to think. 2 Quote

She wasn't just sitting doing nothing for the last 10 years. Her schedule was a lot busier than people like to think. You're forgetting 1994 where she did anywhere from 57 - 62 concerts. And the 90s until 2009 had way more album recording, promo, television appearances, and way more travel on top of her concerts. Travel being the most important factor probably in terms of exhaustion and overwork. Never said she was doing nothing. Obviously. But, staying in Vegas and commuting to work from home is way less stress on the mind and body. And you left out at least 5 years, half a decade, of the period I was talking about. 2010 - pregnant, 0 shows2011 - 57 shows2012 - 52 shows 2014 - 42 shows 2015 - 32 shows2020 - 25 shows All of this, not counting 2010, averages out to 57 shows. Without 2020, it's 60 shows on average. Even if we assume she works 3x more than her # of show dates reflect, that is 180 days...half the year. Someone working half the year is not overworked. 1 Quote

Dancing_Queen Posted May 1, 2022 at 04:34 PM Posted May 1, 2022 at 04:34 PM (edited) Poor baby. Her fifties have not been kind to her so far. It all started so ominously when she had to cancel her Vegas show on her 50th birthday and it hasn't stopped going wrong since then. I sincerely hope they are just being cautious by postponing the summer dates and she's truly on the mend...Hoping for a glorious come-back next year to start off her mid-fifties 😊. Curious about the Paris dates though. There are so many dates, so if they want to keep them together, they may have to replan them in 2024. Though if she's going to be based in Paris, she may as well spread them over the course of a couple of months, though logistically speaking it's not ideal. The email I've received said we'll get new dates on May 10th, so we'll see. ETA: Paris is most likely the reason why they waited so long to announce. They seem to prefer to communicate new dates as a rule (which I honestly appreciate). I suspect they did end up announcing the postponement before securing Paris dates because of the mounting pressure on social media. If the dates had been cancelled, we probably would have known weeks ago. Edited May 1, 2022 at 04:46 PM by Dancing_Queen Quote

She'd need the arena for herself for at least 1,5 or 2 weeks (I imagine they can't just pack everything up so someone else can do a concert in between). So that's a challenge for sure.
