I just read this comment on UKMIX Forums from what I guess is a casual Celine listener (hope he doesn't mind me posting it here):

 

 

Its really funny going on the celine forums and seeing the continued meltdowns on the setlist. Now they are trying to pass around a letter on FB asking Celines management to change the setlist. They really think 1000 entitled fans are going to make Celine change a setlist that at least 2 million people will love?

 

Im going to the DC show on March 11 and she better not touch the setlist. I need all those hits live as when I saw her in Vegas in 2017 the setlist was lacking.

 

Celine and her team created a show to please a broad audience. I agree Your are the voice and the medley could have been replaced by some of her own songs, but I refuse myself to be constantly frustrated by this. I'm going to this tour and I'm going to enjoy no matter what.

It's sad that apparently Céline's creativity only came to cover songs in a medley, instead of showcasing new wonderful songs from her last album.

Seriously what TF happened if they had long long sessions till early morning and yet they come up with a lame extract of the live 2018 show (that was already a lame extract if the wonderful 2017 show). And I guess she had the idea to listen to all her songs, but clearly they did not because no small gems were discovered or added to the show...

 

I said it before many times, Scott was so promising in 2015. He made some great musical changes to Celine and the 2016 and the 2017 shows were divine. But after the Live 2017 tour, nothing exciting really happened or it stayed too long (You're The Voice) or it got removed (Ashes).

Aggressive and whiny. If there are people who seriously think that posting that is going to make the entire team that is Celine Dion change the tour...I just have to smack my damn head. The tour is what it is. LET IT GO. If you don't like it, don't buy a ticket to it. If you bought a ticket before knowing what the tour was going to be like, sell your ticket - there are plenty of people who will want it. The freaking tour is selling out everywhere - WHY WOULD THEY CHANGE IT???!!!!! Because a (very) few spoiled, entitled fans think they're owed the kind of show that they want? I'm laughing my #ss off. Correct, it's not a boycott. But it IS a demand. She is allowed to sing whatever she wants even if we don't agree with it.

I'd also be pleased if she sang more songs from Courage, but I won't start nagging her on social media about it. I'm sure she knows what the reaction from hardcore fans has been (about the setlist). I don't see why people need to bring this up on social media. Many people ARE very happy about the setlist so why rain on their parade?

Yes, but IS she "THE" boss? Because she's mentioned quite a number of times she loves the songs on the new album, that she doesn't really like to perform all the hits anymore, that she wants to do songs she has never or rarely performed live, etc. etc. And everytime her/their reasoning is: "because the fans want to hear the hits". Well this is us, the fans, telling her we do love her big hits, but we also LOVE her other hits and other songs from her repertoire as much! Basically we want the same as what she wants, but "something" is preventing her to do that. Is it someone in her team/AEG telling her she needs to stick to the same songs for 20 years? It it Rene's voice inside her head? What is it?

 

Like Davey said, it's not a demand, it's feedback. We've sit through the 2017 tour, the 2018 tour and now the 'Courage' tour and we've been getting the same 10-12 songs for over 20 years now. She has an album out with 20(!) magnificent songs and we're only getting 2. She's done even more songs from 'Loved Me Back To Life' live and she didn't even tour that album. We're not asking to change 15 songs of the setlist. We're just asking if they might include some more new songs. And it doesn't have to be right away... the tour is barely halfway, so there's plenty of time. Also, they themselves created an expectation that this tour was going to be special and mindblowing and that they're very creative. I'm sorry, but the 2016 tour was all that, this isn't.

 

And again: what's the point of 2000 pages of whining about something with no effect (we THINK they read the forum, but we KNOW they read social media) or to do something (and these days with social media, people do have a voice) about it. If you really want change, then act.

I completely understand what y’all are saying but we will never know what “it” is. But I do not believe that it is anyone in her “team” saying hey let’s do a medley of Bowie and Queen ect ect.

Maybe not, and I really do believe that doing Bowie and Queen is HER idea and what she wants. I for example can totally live with that (even though I prefer a medley of her own songs). But doing all the other same songs in the same versions for 25+ years.... that's just... I don't even know what to call it..

 

She has SO many beautiful gems that scream to be performed live (again). Especially now she's at a point in her career where she can do everything and anything (she has said so herself). Then why do the same things again and again and again?

I would love a medley with at least 3 songs from Courage but with new arragements as they did with I'm alive in the TCWT. Something that people like and make them curious about which songs are those and buy or stream the album.

 

For example... in my opinion, Tous les blues is a great song, but is a little bit slow and boring at some point (not to mention is a not so known french song for the US audience), no visuals, no light effects during the performance, but the ending (the combination of the high note and a dramatic ending with the band and all those lights)... that is what makes people stand up, clap and scream to Celine. They should arrange something from the album that causes that same effect.

Good idea but I think mentioning it's not a greatest hits tour comes off a bit aggressive and informal. It would have been better imo to mention that being the Courage tour fans feel the album is being underrepresented, that we understand many hits are essential but that there might be a better way to balance the old with the new (and even the rare).

Well I agree with the part “in Vegas in 2017 the setlist was lacking”. The ‘Courage World Tour’ is setlist heaven compared to that. I really don’t get people who praise the 2017-2018 Vegas show. How could someone possibly like that short setlist, full of lipsync and boring, useless covers? Let alone the show’s ridiculously boring wardrobe: 100% beige/brown dresses. I was relieved when she brought the Asia tour to Vegas in 2018.

I, for one, would be outraged if “The Prayer” was replaced by “Ashes”! “The Prayer” is such a beautiful, intimate song which wonderfully grows into a powerful, soaring ballad. Also the string intro is divine. “Ashes” doesn’t even come close! I wouldn’t mind the other replacements though, especially WIFIL.

 

Also, I firmly believe that they did have meetings which lasted until 3am and did listen to all of Céline’s songs again, looking for forgotten gems. The only explanation I have is that maybe Céline didn’t find any gems and is not performing any other songs because she doesn’t want to. I’m pretty sure that at this point it’s mostly about what the want to perform than what they have to perform when choosing songs. I do believe there is a reason behind each strange, disappointing decision Céline and her team make. After all, they are professionals who have been in the industry for decades, and many helped Céline get to where she is now. Therefore, I try my best to accept it and be happy for what we’ve got (A LOT).

It just goes to show how different we all are. I would MUCH rather hear TTWII than ANDHC. I would like to hear Ashes, it’s true, but this solo version of TP is a highlight of the show. I wouldn’t want it to be gone. The general public doesn’t remember WIFIL. No one talks about Sleepless in Seattle anymore. BATB is a classic that recently had a new live version done that brought it to a whole new generation.

Nat King cole too. But I’ve not heard this song being covered by anyone lately or even mentioned . BATB is in a completely different contemporary category especially considering the 2017 movie.

It never hurts to ask and you don't know unless you try. These fans are doing so respectfully on social media and I commend them for making an attempt. It's not "nagging" and "whining"...if anything, you folks are the negative nancy's constantly trying to make fans feel bad all the time for having an opinion to anything whatsoever.

Imo a little bit, yes. Just envision yourself talking face to face with Celine or one of her team members, would you really say to their face "this is the Courage tour not the greatest hits tour"? I know I wouldn't. And what do you imagine their reaction would be to hear that? It would not be positive or make them want to change anything (especially since it comes from a minority).

 

And you are right, this tour sadly isn't for us hardcore fans. Just as the Asia tour wasn't. It's for the general public that hasn't seen her in over 10 years or are seeing her for the first time in their city/state/country (like Baltimore recently). She's trying to reconnect with the casual fans.

 

But I am all for this campaign because it's finally getting fans away from simply complaining into the void and it's much more respectful than, say, calling her greedy or lazy on her facebook page. If none of this affects this tour than hopefully we see improvements in the next.

Fan campaigns aren't anything new and it doesn't mean fans are demanding things (especially in this case since what's being asked isn't anything illogical). These types of fan campaigns also show that Celine has passionate fans and any respectful form of fan engagement is a positive. Why do you all think team Celine created that gif page or asks fans what songs they're excited to hear, or created a fan group on facebook? They're bad at creating fan engagement but it's clear they want it.

I remember in one interview prior to the world tour she mentioned she was going to give us an incredible experience that her audience won't forget. Granted the stage set up is interesting/different, drones in place, visuals are actually really good, voice is in top shape, she is in top shape, but she is really not bringing the ethos or emotions of 'Courage' where art meets life... to life in the show. I get why they include that silly medley to get the tempo going or even the fact that Celine likes those songs and wants to perform them but they really add little to the story of 'Courage'. Art is about telling a story, expressing and taking your audience on that journey you went through to create. Just not getting it with her setlist. Creativity on story telling fails. She doesn't even introduce the two Courage songs well or give much background or what it means to her. She has such a strong repertoire to choose from that would fit with showing 'Courage' it baffles me why she doesn't! I get the whole writers rights and financials playing a role but cmon. I would rather go to a Celine concert and not dance around and clap but be over run by the emotion she can bring. That would be more memorable than listening to Your the Voice or another medley of other artists. You are Celine Friking Dion baby!

Considering the show is a hit in the US, the setlist will probably not change until Europe. I'm quite sure the medley will be kicked out for the European leg... My personal setlist for Europe would be this one:
