scielle Posted March 1, 2020 at 04:21 AM Posted March 1, 2020 at 04:21 AM (edited) Looking lovely and happy on the streets of NYC today: https://www.gettyima...=newest#license So I realized earlier today that this was taken just across the street from my dentist, which is a few minutes' walk from my apartment. Which means... she's in the neighbourhood (Hi, Celine! ) And, completely incidentally, the moment I got out of my local subway station on the way home from the show tonight, is the moment she arrived back at her hotel. She had just finished signing autographs, it seemed, and I missed her by about 30 seconds that it took to cross the street. She hung around for another minute or two as she posed for a few pictures, but security kept us away - posing against the wall, man-spreading on a park bench in the hotel courtyard , wearing black track pants and a neon green jacket. So I'd say that was a pretty cool way to cap off the evening! Also cool - there was a sing-off at the Barclay Center subway station - two groups of people on opposite sides of the platform, trying to outsing each other with IACBTMN. Bummed I didn't get it on video. It was a moment. Some continued to sing once they got on the train. And, same observation as last night. Definitely a younger crowd than I'm used to seeing at Celine shows. Perhaps because it's hipster Brooklyn. Edited March 1, 2020 at 04:22 AM by scielle 4 Quote
celinefan1985 Posted March 1, 2020 at 04:30 AM Posted March 1, 2020 at 04:30 AM Looking lovely and happy on the streets of NYC today: https://www.gettyima...=newest#license I was at the concert last night, and was very surprised by how young the audience was. Pretty much every Celine show I've been to so far was a mostly boomer, mostly female audience. But last night, it looked to me like the majority of the crowd was millennial. I wasn't expecting that. Groups of guys, groups of girls, lots of people proudly wearing their homemade Celine shirts (with pics dating back to '80s and early '90s). Definitely not a "I'm only here because the wife dragged me" kinda crowd. I'm going again tonight, but must say, I've never been this unexcited about a Celine show. This set list does absolutely nothing for me. In fact there are several songs on there I just can't stand. Still, it's always nice to see her live, I suppose, and especially when she gets a reception like she did last night. She was a top-10 trending topic in NY last night, by the way. And yes, I saw at least one Celine billboard at Times Square (a video one though, so you had to wait around for many others to cycle through before it got to Celine). Also, if she reads any reviews at all, I hope she reads the NYT one. Particularly the last sentence: "Maybe she should set herself an actual challenge next, and do an intimate Broadway residency à la Springsteen — with wiggle room for improv." Javascript is not enabled OR refresh the page to viewClick here to view the Tweet Also interesting to see Variety point out that she should do the Suprbowl half time show.Javascript is not enabled OR refresh the page to viewClick here to view the Tweet “And unlike fussy artists who refuse to revisit their greatest hits, Dion gamely slayed all of them, from “Beauty in the Beast” and “Love Can Move Mountains” to “Because You Loved Me” and “To Love You More” (for which she was accompanied by a violinist she introduced as “Felipe”). Sprinkled throughout the set, she also sings a handful of new songs from her latest record. Even if the lyrics aren’t as well-known, she performs them with such vitality, it’s hard to resist.” Well I wish she were like other Artists and performed more new songs! Imagine the Hardway or Change My Mind live? I would even take them lipped over songs that need to be retired asap like LCMM! Quote
Popular Post CelineDionForeverNY Posted March 1, 2020 at 05:51 AM Popular Post Posted March 1, 2020 at 05:51 AM Just got back home from the show, I say this every time, but despite my qualms with the setlist over the years, Celine never fails to amaze me in live performance. Videos and bootlegs does not fully capture the energy and true dynamic that happens on stage. Her voice was on fire tonight. The Prayer was the highlight for me tonight, absolutely beautiful with her tone right now. So many videos and pictures to share, as well as full bootleg audio. 10 Quote http://i.imgur.com/dQ1vYVz.jpgMais qui peut dire, qu’il peut vivre sans amour, qui?

"It's been more than 10 years since we were last here," she said. "Maybe it's because they locked me up in the Nevada desert all that time. It doesn't matter, because, you know what? I escaped! And finally, I made it here to the great state of New York." Doesn't sound like someone who wants to go back to Vegas soon. The only stretch of Courage that doesn"t exactly cohere is toward the end, when Dion emerges in a sequined disco jumpsuit to tackle a few covers. Some choices, such as David Bowies Let's Dance and Labelles Lady Marmalade (in French), are fun enough, but her take of Princes Kiss feels like a cold leftover from her Vegas act. That said, hearing Dion in concert makes it hard to believe that she's never been asked to headline the Super Bowl halftime show." See the medley is too random, too all over the place and it needs work. With the 2017 medleys a story was told. This is just her karaoke moment. This is just her karaoke moment. :(quote] Yeah but...then there’s this from The New York Times Review: “No matter what she sings, Celine Dion makes it her own. Toward the end of her show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Friday night, she performed a megamix that included the ultra-recognizable likes of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust,” Prince’s “Kiss,” Ike and Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High” and “Lady Marmalade,” made famous by Labelle. Each of these songs is a calling card for its original performer, and each had been thoroughly Dionized. The metamorphosis involved more than singing most of the Labelle song in French — “Je suis Lady Marmalade!” — instead of just that one line everybody knows. Dion turned the medley into a sleek vehicle for herself, confidently strutting across the stage knowing she could take any hit she wants, bite a piece of it, belt it back out with a trill and a shimmy, and move on to the next one.” So it’s all simply a matter of taste with the medley. Some people LOVE it (I fall in that side) Some people HATE it. She can’t please everyone. That’s why she should just keep doing what she enjoys doing and hope that there’s something for everyone.
