Celine and Pepe

So a woman with almost 40 years of experience working in the industry cannot make her own decisions? Cannot have her own vision? She has to be dictated to and influenced by a man? And that's the only explanation we will accept...in 2019? What a misogynistic piece of nonsense. Of course Pepe has some influence. He's her friend. My friends have some influence on me too. But Celine is not a puppet. Page Six is trash...we know this...but this article is pretty offensive.

I don't read this as offensive or misogynistic; at least I don't see that as the point of the article. I think the (supposed) frustration would have been the same if it were a woman.

I read this as someone who's perceived as a relative outsider (and seemingly marginally qualified for some of the jobs now in his purview) suddenly taking up a lot of space at the expense of people who have been there for years / others who are more experienced. It's understandable some would feel threatened, or at the very least annoyed.

But yeah, I'd say Page Six is on par with a TMZ when it comes to journalism & reliability... but it's got a sizable following and it spreads.

Tabloids will be tabloids. They will make up stories as they wish just to call attention. I find it incredible that in 2019 people still believe that a woman is incapable of making her own decisions without a man. When Celine was with Rene people said that many times. He was the one calling all the shots and she just followed him. Thank god I have at least three interviews with Rene where he says the exact opposite. She was very much in charge! Now she is totally in charge. As she says with Rene they had a 50 /50 partnership. Now she is 100 percent the boss. Pepe is talented and is able to help her a lot, but you can be sure that the last choice and word is always on Celine.

some people can take advantage of you even if you have a lot of experience. she look skinny, something is going on. Her career is not what it use to be. When I see her and this Pepe it look like a remake of the song ziggy

Well she has to call Pepe before she eats anything for his permission. I read about it on the internet.

If the enviermonet surrounding her was so good and postivie, it should have showed on her too, fow now sadly, it seems the opposite.

When I'm looking in all the last interviews, I'm seeing her eyes without any sprakle. Really hoping she will be fine but why bothering seeing reality as it is when all I can see "Celine is the boss and blah blah blah".

Now even Le Journal De Montreal is addressing the subject? Well, I believe Pepe is just Céline's best friend and that's it. As Incognito said above, our friends have a certain degree of influence on us, it's only normal. But I think the original article also said Pepe is her manager, which is not true, as we all know.

It would be really interesting to see a documentary with interviews to her former team (Julie Snyder, Annie Horth, Law Roach...) about what really happened between them and Céline and their opinion on the current situation.

Julie Snyder? Is there a fight between them?

I don't think there has ever been a fight between them, but they stopped working together after René's passing.

But whose space is he taking up?

Who is he replacing? Who was fired to make place for Pepe?

I think Céline is being a mentor to Pepe, more than anything else.

She loves what he's done for her (taught her about dance and art, shares her passion for fashion, basically opened up a whole new world that she loves to explore...)

In return, she's brought him into contact with talented people (like Sydney) who he can work with and learn from.

He probably has vision/talent, but he'd lack the experience to be her sole stylist. Which is why he's part of a team.

And yes, I most definitely see a lot of sexism in this story.

First of all, Sydney and Dee are barely even mentioned.

Everything seems to indicate that they're just as influential as Pepe, but hardly anyone seems to care.

It seems much more interesting to frame Pepe as the scheming handsome devil, trying to isolate and manipulate a naive widow.

Secondly, like incognito said earlier:

Everyone is influenced by the people that surround them (friends, family, collegues...).

The people we like and trust most, will have the biggest influence.

Only with women, people are all too quick to assume that there must be a man that's calling the final shots.

Maybe women are generally more inclined to credit their influences.

But even when a man does talk about a friend/wife's impact on his life or career, no one will think twice about it. Because he's a man, so in the end, we're sure he'll make his own decisions.

It's infuriating, quite frankly.

If people think Pepe has more influence than them, then that probably means she likes him better than she likes you. Tough. Now deal.

Well, I'm not sure about marginally qualified. I mean his resume his more than fine. Having worked all his carreer among Cirque du Soleil or Broadway show, and more recently as a quite recognised fashion illustrator is way enough and legitimate to integrate Celine's team even as a creative director. I mean did she ever have a creative director ? Was this role entitled to René before ? Was he more qualified with his background in the Baronets ? Wasn't the creative part of Celine's whole carrer the most critical part till now ? Having a young guy coming from Cirque du Soleil and Broadway show, even just as a dancer, is an amazing input for Celine.

Other than that this whole Pepe bashing really annoys me because I feel that this is for some unclear and conservative reasons only.

I like to think factually about it :

For the last 15 years I kept reading that:

- Céline should sing live more often

- Celine should sing more of her old repertoire

- She should re interpret her own song live: Acoustic version....

- Take more risk in general

This is exactly what she is doing since René's death, She is addressing all of those points little by little like NEVER before. Facts ! Once again, I'm talking here about facts and not opinions. It has never been that exciting to follow Celine actually and see her finnally adressing what everyone wanted, what I kept reading for 15 years. And the bashing has never been that important. It's unfair, just unfair at this point, and factually wrong.

Then if we talk about opinions, it doesn't mean I like everything she is doing but I factually see that she is getting closer and closer to what the majority was asking for.

And for the people bashing Pepe because Celine is skinny or her smile is not excatly the same, no comment. That is creepy as f***.

Factually, I love Pepe and we have never been that close to see exactly how it will turn into her music/live aspect.

what is more creepy for the general public, Celine with Pepe , or Celine with René?

I think we are really starting to overthink this, much like the romance rumours a couple of years ago.

Let's take a step back. This is a tabloid/trashy news site trying to extent a storey which let's face it for most of us has run it's course. Celine is not in love with Pepe and Pepe is in a relationship with someone else. They work together and spend some time with each other outside of work.

I have always mistrusted Pepe, it felt to me like he had too much influence, too quickly, at a time when she was very vulnerable. So I'm not entirely surprised that an accusation like that has come out. I guess as she said she just needed some company and a friend. Let's hope he isn't isolating people around her and if he is she sees that.

What’s more worrisome is that let’s hope she’s not being isolated from music too, because Pepe’s thing clearly is fashion and NOT music, and in light of events Celine has been more in the news for her fashion appearances than for music since René passed away.

No I never thought that. I just thought she had a happy, fulfilling home life, which was evident from her general demeanour and apparent happiness. And I think she and Rene were out and about quite a lot prior to the kids coming and whilst not being stupidly busy with their work of course.

i think that she was isolated , but all major stars are in a way. Maybe she is trying to break that , not saying she is having succes about it. I don't know how she feels , i,m not her friend. Maybe i should try to do some paparazzis work, she is staying in my town this summer.... :giggle: Edited by québecflower

I think you are right. And actually the truth is maybe somewhere between what we have both said. By definition of being a celebrity you are probably going to be isolated, especially when you reach her level of fame. I suppose for her, in Rene, maybe she had found the right person to be isolated with. That is why she has stayed eccentric but sane where other celebrities have lost it completely.

It may not be for her, but it WILL be the main thing for her public sorry. Celine Dion is first and foremost a singer (may she like it or not today), and what people and her public will always expect from her now and until the end is music, new albums and more music, not fashion display shows in front of hotels or a collection of bags designed by her or a clothing line from babies. That's the way it is! ^_^

How is he isolating her from music? This year she participated in an Aretha tribute, created a free event for fans to announce her tour, did a festival in London, is releasing an album, participated in Carpool Karaoke, and is preparing a year long+ world tour. Meanwhile, she went to two fashion weeks.

She really loves ballet now, I guess her dance teacher is isolating her from music AND fashion.

Pepe gets blamed for so much, now even of isolating her. Maybe the problem isn't him but people who underestimate Celine's intelligence and strength.

And also like to ignore everyone else that is around her because it isn't just him. That the media singles him out is one thing but in terms of work Celine has never credited him alone (neither has he). In her personal life he is important now because he is her bff, he's someone she created a close bond with and if someone doesn't like that then tough.

I don't understand why it was fine that when Rene was alive he was pretty much the only person she was seen with in public but it's wrong now that it's Pepe? Why? She's not cheating on anyone, Pepe isn't forcing himself on her, they're just friends who also work together.

There's a big portion of the public that think still today that Celine Dion has been retired from music since years ago (thanks to the isolation itself that her Vegas residencies itself provided too). That speaks volumes, and if we put both fashion and music on the scales, one thing has clearly had more weight on people's minds than the other. We only have to ask someone on our entourage when we say "I'm a big Celine Dion fan" and they immediately say "oh, she's been on TV/magazines quite a lot recently because she's much into fashion, isn't she?" or "I thought she was retired from music?" Everyone here knows a similar situation happening to us :innocent: :)

Well, either way, im still glad shes even continuing her career after Renes passing, i thank her and the man up stairs every day for that, because i just remember after Rene passed thinking she was going to buy out of her Vegas contract and live a life in the shadows for the rest of her days

Rene was her husband; don’t compare him to Pepe! When Celine will fall in love again, Pepe will cease to be part of her life and that will be a nice thing. For my part, I have never like Pepe. He is not a low profile guy and he is too young.
