Javito Posted November 30, 2017 at 12:26 PM Posted November 30, 2017 at 12:26 PM (edited) Just like timing was important to get a nomination...artists who release an album every 10 years get a nodJust like all nominations are super fair... From my point of view, when you see her history in Grammy nominations, since 2002, there wasn't any major duet (only with Stevie Wonder but was not released), there wasn't any success either. I don't know if this category still exist but "loved me back to life" and "taking chances" (both songs) could have been nominated as "best female pop vocal" or whatever but since they flopped...If songs like "Because you loved me" and "the power of love" got a nod and didn't win...I guess her unsuccessfull songs can't even get nominated. And on top of that, I think Sony has to submit its artists as well... and knowing them, and her crappy work with Céline since a few years, I wouln't be surprised they didnt submit anything ( they don't send her music to radio, it makes sense they don't submit her). But I'm not sure if record companies have to do it. Don't know the rules. Chances are that picking covers like Taking Chances and Alone and insisting to promote non-original songs when you go to TV is that you lose all credibility if you want to be supported by the industry to get a nomination. And Céline has crowned herself as the queen of covers when promoting her albums, it's been ages that she presents covers before her own original new songs included in the new album, either when she goes to TV and misses the chance to introduce the new original songs to the audience in top TV shows viewed by millionaire audiences like: Oprah: she performed Taking Chances, Alone, I Drove All Night, Hallelujah -all covers, not a single new song-or the TV special of her album: she performed Taking Chances, Alone, Something with Joe Walsh and then old cover hits like TPOL, RDMH etc And then whe she goes on tour, time and again she picks more covers instead of presenting new songs to the audience: It's A Man's World, We Will Rock You, The Show Must Go On -a song that today 9 years later she's still performing , Soul Medley with another bunch of 5 more covered songs... The list is neverending. The only one new original song she really presented from the TC album was My Love. That's just one new original song from a new album, after 4 years without new music. And well, the unnoticed try they did with Eyes On Me and that "remix" version they did for the TV special, which was never officially released nor supported in any form after that... So it's not surprising that the Recording Academy doesn't nominate her, for an artist whose main aim and obsession each time she releases a new album is to inundate all her presentations and public appearances with covers, and neglects the original material time after time! The list is neverending. It's true that then she came back to Oprah and performed My Love (already out from the TC album and as part of the promotion of her new GH album), but heavens, that's just only one new original song she really presented from the TC album! Only one real original song that she believed in to present to the public everywhere. That after 4 years without new music. And well, there's also the unnoticed try with Eyes On Me and that "remix" version they did for the TV special, which was never officially released nor supported in any form after that, so... It's not surprising that the Recording Academy doesn't nominate her, for an artist whose main aim and obsession each time she releases a new album is to inundate all her presentations and public appearances with covers, and neglects the original material time after time! Then the chapter with LMBTL... She tried a bit further with the lead single and then Incredible, but half her heart and efforts where put in the covers since the start: the Vegas covers were forced at all costs in the album, then the fiasco with Water And A Flame, they took Breakaway and then we find out it's again a cover... Where was the good intentions to remix Somebody Loves Somebody? When did she perform the original ballad songs in the album like Thankful, Unfinished Songs?... Quote "Hush, now... And well, there's also the unnoticed try with Eyes On Me and that "remix" version they did for the TV special, which was never officially released nor supported in any form after that, so... The original of TC was not known at all! It was written by songwriter Kara DioGuardi and former Eurythmics member Dave Stewart for their band named Platinum Weird. It was supposed to be released as a single in February 2007 for their unreleased self-titled album. However, after DioGuardi and Stewart recorded the song, they played it for Dion's husband René Angélil, who loved it and Dion recorded it. It's not even a main track on their album, only commercially released as a Best Buy Bonus Disc Track Listing! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Make_Believe_(Platinum_Weird_album) I know your hatred against covers, but TC should be seen as Céline's original IMO. It can't be compared to Alone. (Or IDAN, TPOL, etc). It was a damn good song and it's a shame it wasn't picked up the way it should have. (Vegas, the tour, bad promotion etc to blame). The EOM remix with Will.I.Am didn't happing cos of conflicts between the record labels 6 Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th

From all the things he could have done to that song, I thought that remix made no sense and was very disappointing. Quote

I consider a cover every song that wasn't initially written or sent to Céline to be recorded by her, and Taking Chances wasn't Well I'm not against covers just for the sake of it (some of Céline's finest songs are covers -TPOL, IACBTMN, TFTEISYF, FIY etc), but having a new album to promote with excellent new original songs and ignore them on a constant basis either on TV or while on tour, to perform more covers instead, that's plain ridiculous The EOM remix with Will.I.Am didn't happing cos of conflicts between the record labels I thought all the problems that could arise in that sense would be cleared before they actually got to perform the song on TV? Geez, if they get to that point of the story in which they meet together and perform the song on TV, a commercial release of the song after that normally goes without saying (or includes that possibility)! Ahhh, the messy procedures of Sony Music with Céline Dion Edited November 30, 2017 at 03:55 PM by Javito Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

québecflower Posted November 30, 2017 at 05:06 PM Posted November 30, 2017 at 05:06 PM So , we were talking about HDAMLF, a song she sang in her last tour, she didid not do it on tv because she did not do tv. so.... She promote it just with the robe she was having at the premiere, it was enough. What a fabulous outfit. And the way she sang it in the tour was great. And she will do the oscars, sure of it because they will want her. At this point , she is promoting herself , not her songs , she take it from another side , maybe it will be more efficient. 7 Quote Plus qu'ailleurs , but now Si c'était à refaire , i still love tant de temps....

First 2 songs off TCOML were covers and nominated. Let alone FYI... So all of a sudden the academy stated " enough is enough with Céline and covers"? haha Your hatred against some things goes beyond true facts. I consider a cover every song that wasn't initially written or sent to Céline to be recorded by her, and Taking Chances wasn't Most of songs are not written especially for Céline. Even when you go back to the 50s and 60s, multiple artists would have the same song on the radio at the same time. There was no matter of who was covering who. It was who could deliver the song as the biggest hit who got the recognition. As for Toni Braxton...yes she did turn down BYLM. Celine also passed on "Unbreak My Heart."
