"How Does a Moment Last Forever" (Beauty and the Beast O.S.T.) - Official Topic

I'm not a huge fan of that song, it's just cute.

But the nominated songs are not any better IMO.

After hearing Diane Warren's song nominated this year, I pray that she will stay away from Céline's new album this time.

"How does a moment last forever" did the job last year for Céline : she was at last (!) linked again to something big and serious that kept her a while under the spotlight ! "Beauty and the beast" was the most successfull movie of 2017 ww and its soundtrack sold around 1.000.000 copies in the US alone.

Céline did the premiere and promoted the song on stage.

Since Titanic, she only did flops ! Quest for Camelot, Bicentannial Man, Stuart Little 2, Mona Lisa Smile, Asterix, Song for Marion, The Hymn ( don't even remember the movie) and even an unreleased soundtrack ("I had to dream").

That's already an improvement : better a meh song linked to a successfull movie than a bad song linked to an unknown movie !

Most of the movies you mention were BEFORE Titanic...

I wouldn't say flop to THE PRAYER and I'M ALIVE (was used again for another movie in 2012).

I was talking about the movies they were the soundtrack of.

Even though "I'm alive" was a total flop in the US.

Stuart Little 2 may be a flop (or not, honestly I have no idea) but I'm Alive certainly is not :P

And I Have To Dream is just another chapter in the shameful chain of GREAT Céline Dion songs that have been so badly mistreat and neglected: this one is a true gem of song

Back when it was released in late 2002 there was already too many great things going on around Céline's music and the crazy promo plan she was doing with the ANDHC album and its singles, but had Sony received this song in another moment of inactivity of her career (like 2006 or 2010), this song would have been a hot cake in their hands to promote. It went unnoticed unfortunately but only because there were already too many things on her plate those days.

Actually the movie IS about children and it’s called “Children On Their Birthdays” LOL!🤣🤭😅

Well I find the choirs she did glorious (miss more of her own voice doing the background vocals in her songs), and they lyrics saying:

“Some days are better than they seem,

Some days are better because you dream”

“To dream, isn’t that what tomorrow’s for?”

are delicious to me ❤️😍

Typical Celine Dion song!

Choosing nominations amongst 1000 of songs is always difficult.

Saying that, I listened to the nominees.

I really liked Mighty River and Mystery of Love and think they are special and deserve their nominations.

Remember Me is cute, disneyish, and with its Mexicanishness is within the current internal US debates, hence politically charged, which Hollywood likes. I guess you could not have 2 Disney songs.

“This Is Me” which won the Golden Globes sounded to me like dozen of previous songs. Found the melody quite common, and eventually not very memorable.

Stand Up For Something is bland. Surprised it made the cut. Sounds to me as Diane Warren golden touch is gone. Had same feeling with Unfinished songs and her nominated songs with Lady Gaga.

Well...the movie was called "Children on their Birthdays..."

It was still number 6 on AC. People underestimate the audience for Adult Contemporary stations and the reach they have. Also, "I'm Alive" was an inclusion to the movie, it wasn't specifically written for SL2.

Sorry but now if we have to discuss the success of a song even when it was not even classified on the main top 100...

This is too much for me to handle. 😁

It was commercially a failure in the US. And even being no6 on the AC radio chart is a flop for Céline. She used to be the queen of those stations.

If "I'm alive" did well as per some people I guess we can consider "nothing broken but my heart" as a big big hit.

And here we go again, reducing the potential success of a single (or lack of it) concentrating it only on how the song has done exclusively in the US market (as if that was the only important factor to measure the success of a song).

So besides that #6 in AC US, it got a #1 in Canada, two more in Europe and made into the top 10 in among a dozen other European countries and charts, was featured in 2 movies, remixed for her TCWT and rereleased as a remix single in 2009... and if that wasn’t enough, I’m Alive has been a permanent song in her shows and tours since 2003, and it’s one of the latest recent singles of her in English used to introduce her in TV shows and video presentations when she is promoting a new album (it happened during Sans attendre and again during LMBTL promo in France).

Yeah, it’s what we call a “flop” in her career

'I'm Alive' is probably the first song I name when people ask me 'What else has Céline done beside MHWGO?. Because even my youngest, most musically challenged collegues know the song. It charted for almost 30 weeks in Belgium and radio stations still play it all the time. Funny thing is I used to hate the song with a passion because there was no escaping it. 😁 Still not a favourite of mine, but I've grown to accept it.

And one of the last that many people with a minimum awareness about music is able to mention, after IDAN and 2003... Edited by Javito

Fortunately, I wrote "in the US".

I can't imagine if I wouldn't.

I stated the fact it was a flop in the US and you jumped to the conclusion I'M reducing while your post is full of shortcuts.

Did I say a success is measured only in the US? no

Did I say it was a flop in her carreer? no.

You are just full of bad faith because it is a US flop off your mighty album.

But I bet you would not have the same thinking about LCMM...which has been a permanent song since 100 years and still sung on tv shows till 2013!

Poor Céline... So many artists would love such "flops". It's all relative... :-D

I had to look up the lyrics today. I always heard the line "Protects, proceeds, and perseveres, and makes us whole" wrong. I always heard it as something like "for texts, for seas, and bursts of years" or something nonsensical. :giggle: Glad I finally got that cleared up!

Yeah, I can't figure out what he's saying after "protects." According to the liner notes for the soundtrack though, it's supposed to be "proceeds," lol.

Well, that's always more clean than what I always understood in the lyrics of Map To My Heart, when she says "What's making me come out of my shell?" I always heard "what's making me cum out of my shorts" :giggle: :innocent:

Ahhh, Céline's phrasing :giggle:
