Oscar predictions are starting to come in...

 

- IMDB is predicting both HDAMLF and Evermore have chances of getting nominated. Though Evermore is their likely winner.

My gut says How does a moment last forever will not even be nominated for an Oscar.

Well, if it's all about show, TV rates and media , Céline will be nominated.

 

I mean Celine singing @ the Oscars will be more appealing for people than Josh.

 

From a quality point of view, I prefer Celine's song because I'm a fan but objectively, both songs are the same : bland or at best lovely but won't pass the test of time.

I think a performance of this song at the Oscars could outshine the studio version of the song. It would be an important moment in Celine's career. Her first Oscars without Rene.

 

With her recent fashion icon status, her look would be just as attention grabbing as her performance.

Or, she could be up against my other fave, Mr Elvis Costello. Song written for a biopic, video by Mary McCartney (daughter of Paul), film produced by Barbara Broccoli (of James Bond franchise fame), so lots of heavy-hitters behind it. And apparently, Annette Bening is a "strong contender for Best Actress", so there's that. And Elvis is no stranger to film music - he sang the English version of Charles Aznavour's She for Notting Hill and was Oscar-nominated for The Scarlet Tide from Cold Mountain.

I haven't seen the movie but I would be very surprised if it was nominated or even talked about by the Academy for an award. I don't pretend to know anything about it but the movie doesn't seem very 'Oscars'?!

You're right that the movie itself isn't very 'Oscars'. But the song/soundtrack categories are completely separate from the 'big categories', there's no relation. Most of the Best Song nominees aren't nominated in any other category. I would be very surprised if no B&TB song was nominated. Soundtracks aren't as big as they used to be, so they sometimes don't even have enough songs to fill all the slots. My bet is on both HDAMLF and Evermore being nominated.

Céline is well-liked with the Academy so I'd be very surprised indeed if her song didn't receive a nom.

I wish she would be nominated. But for the last decade for the main evening they only seem to pay attention to artists that the audience aged 12 -25 love and I don't think Céline falls into that category :( They only care about ratings today and not real artists.

The majority of Oscar experts are predicting Evermore to get nominated over How Does A Moment last forever.

 

I too, believe Evermore will slide in over Celine's song. Too bad, because I would love to see her sing on the show..

 

Oh well. Not over yet, we'll see, but I think a lot on here were banking on a nomination and now, it looks rather slim.

I like Josh but he sounds like a sheep when singing. After a while it's quite annoying. Only song of his I listen to on occasion is Remember When It Rained.

Think we all felt it was a bit of a long shot for Celine to be in with a huge shot at winning. Recognition for her and the song would be lovely though. We'll soon find out.

Awards Circuit has finally come out with its complete prediction in the Best Original Song category.

Evermore is at No. 5

PROS:

 

Number sang by Dan Stevens (quite well) that could become a key way to reward the highest grossing film of the year (so far).

 

CONS:

 

Will they be on board with the live action remake when they've already rewarded the animated classic?

 

 

HDAMLF is at No. 16

PROS:

 

Alan Menken and Tim Rice are favorites with the Academy, partner this number sang by Celine Dion, this could be a no-brainer.

 

CONS:

 

Might move towards "Evermore."

I think HDMLF will not be nominated for an Oscar, it did not have any kind of promotion, unlike Evermore where Josh Groban sang on TV.
