That's actually a really interesting interview and gives me some confidence that Sony can once again get Celine's music heard by the masses. It's interesting that he acknowledges that at the beginning of Adele's career radio didn't support her as her music didn't fit into any one genre. It's kind of like the problem Celine has now (and has done since 2003) in that whatever she decides to record radio broadly ignore her. Hopefully the new CEO can provide some direction and influence at radio level as although I don't expect Celine to have worldwide number 1 singles again it still would be nice to think her record company can send songs to radio and they are played!

As CelinesDIVO5 said recently there's no reason why Céline can't have a combeback like Cher did with believe... or remember the impact Tom Jones made with his Reload album?

I agree. However Celine, Sony and her team should focus on the song and not continue to chase the "hot names" to write for her like they've been doing with NeYo, Sia and Pink for example. If those "hip" writers happen to come up with a brilliant song or something that would really suit Celine then so be it but I really don't think they should be chasing songs from these people. Just because these people "offer" songs to Celine doesn't mean she has to record them.

Look at what happened with "A New Day Has Come" for example. Stephan Moccio, an unknown writer, came up with that brilliant song and it really suited Celine and did brilliantly around the world both on radio and on the charts.

They don't need to chase collaborations with the latest "hip" writers. Just focus on finding good songs. Do that, like Cher did with "Believe", and she just might once again have that hit English song.

With a due respect, I think that Sia did a wonderful job with LMBTL.

I agree! Sometimes adding big names to a song can be worse as people have higher expectations on what it should be and sound like.... when no names are mentioned people tend to embrace songs more ....

Agree!!! That song just needed more promotion and a great music video.

Of course now we know that when the album was released Celine discovered that René was dying and that was the main reason of the lack of promotion.

I'm expecting LMBTL to be performed live on Celine's new European tour.

And despite Rene getting sick again, with her schedule, I can't say that the promotion for the album was all that horrible.

I think it's a great song. Modern enough without straying too far away from what Celine has always been. And Celine sounded stupendous on it!

Exactly! Same goes to music producers. I hope they find someone with fresh sound and fresh ideas. Big names tend to copy what's already been done. I hope they give a chance to some unknown talented producer.

I have completely given up on the idea that Celine will be played by radios and I am a happy fan. To think the opposite would eventually lead into disappointment.

However, I think she has potential to sell many copies of her upcoming album. Which is all that matters to me from a commercial standpoint.

Radios didn't play Adele but don't forget, she was an upcoming artist at the time.

When they saw she was selling like crazy they had no choice but play her.

Céline's story is different. They played her like crazy already so going back to the past isn't something radios tend to do much...

But since Céline is now somewhat cool again, it might be easier for Sony to push her singles.... We'll see!

Exactly. Let's see if they're still playing Adele's new music in 20 years time!

"Adèle wasn't played"?

When exactly?

I mean before 21...there was only 19 off which "chasing pavement" was well received by radios (nothing like afterwards but still much more than Céline).

I'm not gonna complain for her because her beginning radio career was so-so... there is a huge difference between not being massively played like she was for her first album and being totally ignored like Céline for more than 15 years now....

Let's talk seriously please.

Add to that that the total ignorance came all of a sudden, from one album to the next one, almost from one year to another

I know that the idea of a radio complot against her is completely ridiculous on a worldwide scale, but that's just what it looks it happened, from 2002 that she was literally everywhere to 2004 boom! She totally disappeared... and since then until the present day. It's as if all kind of radios agreed to banish all new music coming from her.

I know what youre saying but honestly, thats just celine and her choices of what to do to blame., nothing else. She even admitted it herself that she was on the top, at her peak, but she decided to return down. In 2002, 2003 she was huge, big as Madonna, maybe bigger, I remember even in my country articles saying: "Celine queen of pop" she got every eye of the world on her.

But once you sell your soul to Vegas, you're no longer a "Madonna", youre a star who decided to slow down and not to be in a news anymore. And the news dont care about you because you are not at their sight anymore, simple math. And then when she came back with Taking Chances, her star power was faded already, plus song that doesnt scream a hit, another simple math. But yet, she still managed to make it a small hit here in Europe and created second biggest tour by female artist ever.

LMBTL was a huge surprise, absolutely hitmaking song, but without any help from Sony already, so no attention from radio stations, and no video?!

Just imagining what could she has accomplished without Vegas, continuing her 2002/ 2003 route, doing some movies etc, makes me cry. Her potential was literally without boundaries.

THANK YOU! That's basically my same view of things since she started Vegas in 2003. And I would say it's a pretty relastic summary of how everything has developed. Other fans prefer to live in denial, though, excusing and making impossible pretexts of what has been and what hasn't (each one his own, of course! :flowers: ).

I just think her success in 2002 was SO powerful, she was becoming such force in music, then reaching even young audiences and a new public, that is very possible she would be regarded as a menace by other artists and her own record label. Her position in the industry was so strong to the point of being intimidating, there was nothign she couldn't do, and she proved she could have all kind of audiences with ANDHC and her great comeback. And maybe that's why (sadly) she was forced to be set aside by her own record label and radios, in favour of other artists that were just arrived and also deserved a chance.

Anyway, I tend to think that because it's just not possible that from one year to another she's alienated from radios on a worldwide scale.

lol. Is that a post sponsored by Javito?

Because its purpose is only to nutrish his obsessions against Vegas to me. 😅

Those allegations are only in people's minds who think they're right but based on fantasies only.

Not only real fact and figures.

And ironically, you've chosen the only artist ( and that's already enough to put down your hypothesis) who is the shadow of herself.

If Céline was Madonna ... and is no longer Madonna... What about the real Madonna who is not even "Madonna" herself?

And without Vegas.

I rather have Céline in Vegas than how Madonna has ended up. Sorry.

I wouldn't have said better what he said, really :giggle:

And it's sponsored by common sense. Everyone that has been following Céline before and after 2003 knows that her career was unstoppable, and only Vegas stopped her from doing LOTS of things, either postponing or ultimately cancelling many projects :) I'm not discovering gunpowder to you with this, right?

Again that's only your opinion. It doesn't mean it's common sense. It's not to me. Far from that. You envision what her career could have been without any facts.

That's pure speculation.

On the contrary, we have facts and figures that her career was actually stoppable and began to go down (at least commercially speaking) with "A new day has come" which was out of the main charts not even 6 months after its released.

That's a fact dear.

As well as that the second single off the album didn't even break the US HOT100. That was a big failure.

Nobody - I repeat nobody - has had a big successfull continuous career over decades. Each career has a peak and Céline had hers.

So no, sorry...I don't see the common sense in your post.

And if one day, Céline will be again successfull, it will only be the time of an album.

I was sure she would have her confessions (Madonna) or emancipation (Mariah)...meaning a big hit album between flops ... but I'm not anymore as the way of consumming music has changed.

But I'm sure that in 10 year, you will have the same speech that hasn't changed the last 10 years anyway.

I don't see the common sense of you repeating yourself that much... we all got your point I think. And we respect it but no use to bring it in every topic..

And the fact of saying it all over again makes no sense. What's the purpose? That's not gonna change a thing in her career now. It's like you are waiting for everybody to agree with it. But then again...what for?

If everyone said you are right, would we keep on talking about it for 10 years?

It wouldn't bring you or Céline anything...

As fact as in 2002 piracy and decline of album sales were at their peak and striking hard (to the point that in Europe the album was sold with a warning printed on the album cover and requesting not to play the CD on the computers to prevent illegal copying), and still the album was one of the biggest selling albums in 2002 :giggle: ;)

"A New Day Has Come" has sold more than Beyoncé's "Dangerously In Love" released in 2003 for example, and the same as Madonna's celebrated dance album "Confessions On A Dancefloor", released in 2005. Or the same as Dido's "Life For Rent" in 2003, the fourth best selling album of 2003 and the best selling album that year in a pivotal market like the UK... Not that bad I would say?

As well as that the second single off the album didn't even break the US HOT100. That was a big failure.

What you call a failure is one of the last most recogniseable Celine Dion single for audiences everywhere that she has released (then it came I Drove All Night, and since then, that's it)

So it's not that bad for a song that everyone still recognise and instantly connects with Celine Dion, unlike subsequent singles like Taking Chances, Alone or Loved Me Back To Life.

Nobody - I repeat nobody - has had a big successfull continuous career over decades. Each career has a peak and Céline had hers.

Céline actually was at her peak in 2002 still. In fact her peak never diminished since 1998 and despite her break during 2000. The industry and the public welcomed her back in 2002 with open arms. But then she left the international scene voluntarily while being at her peak. Only then her popularity started to decline while being in Vegas, and not any minute before.

You must be so delusional if you want to affirm the contrary and say that Céline was declining during 2002, or maybe you were living under a rock in 2002, because she was everywhere and she was demanded everywhere :)

That, I grant you. Wish it was that easy, only with wishing it...

No person with a brain would ever state that Céline was at her peak in 2002.

Let me put something into perspective for anyone that believes that - prior to releasing Let's Talk About Love, there was a buzz that the "Falling Into You woman" that sold 30m copies of an album was returning. Then Titanic happened and her fame went nuclear - if she was a company traded on the FTSE or Dow Jones, then her stock/shares would've doubled overnight when Titanic happened. Sony proceeded to ship to retailers an unprecedented 10.75 million copies of Let's Talk About Love before a single copy was even sold - it is the biggest advanced shipment of any single album I have ever heard of and that we will likely ever see [the growth of digital consumption basically guarantees this]. 10 million is the worldwide shipments figure widely accepted to be an accurate estimate for A New Day Has Come nowadays.

Basically, what A New Day Has Come sold by the end of its chart life was less than what Let's Talk About Love had "sold" before it'd even hit the shelves - there's no comparison. She was huge in 2002 but nothing compared to the Michael Jackson/Beatles-esqe fame she was enjoying in 1997/1998. And before anyone starts shouting "piracy, industry decline, digital growth" at me, take a look at this...

http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk292/WJD1989/ifpi.png

Basically, recorded music album sales had declined just 1.7% from 1997 until 2002 - you cannot blame a decline in the music industry on A New Day Has Come's lukewarm [relative to Let's Talk About Love] sales - simply put, she wasn't as big as she was at her peak. She was still huge and one of the top-selling female artists of 2002, just nowhere near her peak.

Everyone has a right to a view, but trying to sift through the bull here sometimes is just tiring.

Madonna right now has a bad reputation and is known to be a shadow of her old self. Celine was not like that in 2003. Even after 2003 Celine released smash selling albums in her native language. This has not been the case for Madonna since 2012 and I honestly doubt she will ever release another good selling album.

What is more Celine rose to fame step by step, reached a peak, then normally declined. Madonna, on the other hand, started high, there was some decline during the 90s, regained her status during the 00s and took a huge downfall the past years. Point is their respective careers are nothing alike and cannot really be compared.
