Someone who is involved in the recording of their songs. Meaning, more than what Celine has said in the past about once she lays her vocals down, her "job" is done. Someone who isn't afraid of saying, "Screw just the hits! I'm going to reflect and do older material to see how far I've come!" Someone who is also greatly involved in the merchandise aspect of their career. Meaning, not just leaving it up to marketing "specialists" to create lackluster t-shirts and posters. Celine is showing great promise in some of these areas. I loved the fact she chose every song included in the last tour. The incorporation of the "Law & Order" theme as a nod to Rene was fantastic! Also, including "unknowns" showed great promise as an artist in the making. If she keeps on this trajectory, she will be an Artist in my eyes in no time. With all that said, I fully understand the term "Artist" is completely subjective. What may qualify as an "Artist" to one person may not to another, and vice-versa. That's my belief, anyway. Agree! Barbra Streisand in 2006 played the piano for the first part of the very first song she wrote called Ma première chanson and then the orchestra took over. It was a funny/cool moment. I completely agree with everything you said about what your idea of an artist is. And I would have said the same thing for anyone else but Celine lol! I seem to have a very weak spot for her for some reason I really do think she is an artist because she does take every song she sings to a whole new level. And it's not just her voice...it's the interpretation of it. And let's not forget that she was the one who first got the idea to create a singing show just like "O" So she might not yet be the one who actually creates things but I think many many of the things we've seen her do all these years started from her own ideas. BUT, this is just my own opinion and we are all free to have our own views!!! That being said, I DO agree that I'd like to see her take the reins on more aspects of her career and I think that this is exactly what she is slowly beginning to do which I am enjoying immensely. So let's hope to see her blossom into a fully-blown artist that also writes her own material!! 1 Quote
