Céline Releasing Studio Version of "The Show Must Go On" featuring Lindsey Stirling

In the midst of all the complaining, I still have this song on repeat. Some people are just full of themselves and downright ungrateful. One second there's hype, and then the next it's disappointment.

I don't really see the hate or the nervousness. Yeah it's not an actual studio session, but it's a single release WORLDWIDE. I for one see this as exciting and a really good way to build up her buzz. The actual song is amazing, and it's nothing new to throw auto tune on her vocals. She's been doing it for years. Everyone just seems to look past the fact that Celine doesn't care about technicality anymore and prefers to present her personal preference.

Of course is she cared what the media thought about her priority technical approach, she wouldn't have released her last 3 albums. Her motive now is more raw and it shows in this single.

Hate it or not, this single shows Celine is taking chances and doing something "different". I love it. And Lindsey Stirling just adds to the excitement, she's really talented and popular.

The first five seconds I thought it was gonna come across and say "this audio has been flagged by ____" and hence why it sounded like it was replaced. LOL, before she sang the first word i had no idea what song.... i'm not crazy about the rendition of the studio version. but let's not forget the first few pages all the praise and happiness seen by most of us over the decision to release this. yea, it's not that great. but it's an improvement for them to do something like this at all. i'm much more concerned about the performance on sunday than i am how this studio version is perceived by fans who have heard a more superior version of the song in comparison to MOST people listening who have not heard it, so yes it may sound like crap in a way, but our perception is distorted in a way of what we're used to hearing....just like many Queen fans would say as well lol.

Am I the only one who finds the cover photo choice to be a bad one, too? She looks far too happy and smiley considering the song's content.

no you're not the only one. At first I didn't care coz all I want is Celine's voice, but now I do care.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Sometimes I don't get people on here. It's so negative. Be happy that she's releasing a song *worldwide* and that so much media attention is on her. Even if the song was perfectly produced, it wouldn't be a chart topper. If LMBTL couldn't chart that well, then a cover of Queen sure as hell won't. Be happy that we're getting new music. And stop complaining.

^ 100% AGREE.

I hope Céline doesn't see this thread and how critical the FANS are being.

Right now, she needs support, she doesn't need FANS (many of whom do not have music industry experience) to be tweeting her (very successful and experienced) manager, telling him how to do his job because they don't like one song.

I, for one, like this recording and although I started this thread, won't be reading it anymore because of all of the negativity.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but this thread has turned to venom and it looks more like something you'd see on a "I hate Céline" forum.

After finally getting the chance to listen to this, here is my take. The raw vocal itself, probably is stellar. This whole thing is just terribly produced. It sounds like they took the arrangement and then laid Celine's live vocal over it (as has been said previously in this thread...yes, I've pretty much read the whole topic) and they didn't match up, so they had to compress (for lack of a better word) the vocal to match the arrangement. I tried to do this with some back up vocals to an instrumental, and the arrangements didn't match up...I just don't have any production skills to have made it "work." The auto tune you guys are hearing in the first chorus on the lyrics "The show must go on..." I don't think it's autotune. I actually think that they layered the same vocal on top of one another...poorly. The "screech" in the middle, I feel was speeded up to fit in the arrangement. I bet it's actually a little bit more drawn out on the original vocal. It's not my favorite...but I'm still going to buy it and support our girl. $1.29 is not going to break my bank. TeamCeline's heart was in the right place on this one, but I don't know where the hell their brain was.

She does an epic version every night in Vegas . . can't understand why they would releasesuch a poorly produced version. It would have been better if they had released a live version from ANY of the shows she's done for the last eight months. The vocal on this version is better than the production, but it doesn't have the raw emotion that makes the song so powerful live.

And the photo is all wrong for the song. It's a lovely picture. .but it's so laid back. For TSMGO, it should be fierce, strength, determination. . . like a picture of her in the sparkly green dress doing one of her moves where she throws her arms in the air. . .

It was an excellent idea to release the song like this, in conjunction with all the interviews and right before her Billboard performance. But the version they chose . . poor management decision. Aldo may be a good businessman, but an artist he is not. Such a missed opportunity.

Then May God never let her take chances like this again. Things like this can kill...

One, don't bring God into this. That's poor judgement and silly.

Secondly, you're still alive and well, so act like you have just a pinch of sense.

Hasn't been released here yet, but I'm SUPER EXCITED!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I'm definitely buying it, maybe even twice. This'll only live once. :giggle:

Well, I think it'll do moderately just with the force of her name. But, it'll take what they've been doing this week consecutively from now to after the buzz from her BBMA performance. A partnered video with Lindsey, some promo/social media backage, and Song's efforts, we could probably see some success on the Hot100.

A radio deal wouldn't hurt either.

Musicians out there, maybe you can help me figure out what's going on with that screech...

I clearly hear a F#5 which then turns into the screech... is she actually doing that over an E5? or in some way it's completely out of tune or "note-less"?

I can't seem to tell because the violin is very loud at that point.

Yeah... I kinda sensed that when he said you can't do anything too different with an established artist, and then he proceeded to talk kitchenware

He's a marketer, and in that domain I think he's been doing rather well thus far. But I worry about him tainting Celine's musical choices and forgetting she's an artist, not just a brand.

Lindsey Stirling's fabulous violin work is the best thing about this version, but everything about the production screams cheap, blatant commercialism. And that makes me sad, because right now a lot of people (and by that I mean casual fans more so than us) are waiting with bated breath for the next thing from Celine, and all they're going to get is this watered-down mess. Such a missed opportunity and I worry it can really hurt her.

It is an F#5, but I think it's very forced and the violin doesn't help. It's definitely a note, just a very strained one.

I hear that F#5 but then I feel like it goes down to an E5 when the chord changes and sometimes I feel like it stays at F#5. That weird a sound it is! :P

I highly doubt the media will crucify Celine for this version of "The Show Must Go On," considering the meaning behind it, coupled with everything that has happened recently. They'd be fools to be negative. Can you imagine the "blacklisting" Aldo would do if they did? Not to mention many in the general public would find it in poor taste.

they will call it a "raw-emotional and far-from-perfect rendition of a classic"

Which is ok!

I think it was a production effect that caused a glitch. I believe that note was originally held out longer, but they had to condense it to fit the timing of the arrangement, thus giving us a chipmunk orgasm.

But I don't really like it! You can put rasp into it and growl all you want but it has to be controlled in some way. I actually only enjoyed the first verse. Then when the first chorus kicks in her voice is suddenly muffled? This was just not very good.

wtf ? What? He was in charge! He'd never let this happen. No matter chart positions we always knew there would be at least a nice album, voice and well done songs. This is not his standard.

On another note, Lindsey Stirling confirmed she'll be performing with Celine at the BBMAS.

I'm so excited for this, never would have expected this collaboration.

Overjoyed wasn't poorly produced. Her vocal was lovely, it's just a cheesy song.
