Celine to Receive ICON Award, Perform at Billboard Awards - May 22nd, 2016

About the covers at awards shows...these are usually songs that are chosen by the producers of the show. The in memoriam segments are already set up. Songs like "Smile" were already put in place. They just had to find the singer. Maybe with the exception of "Hymne a L'amour" I'm not sure if that was Celine's choice or not. This award is for Celine, and about Celine. She can sing whatever the heck she wants.

I agree. This song is a brilliant choice! It's brilliant because the lyrics literally just say it all. And the song is Vocal enough to show her voice off as well. I think the audience will be on their feet for Celine, I think people's reaction is going to be " Wow, didn't know she could hit those notes still." Unless you've seen Celine in concert her latest tv performances in the US have been pretty subdued. "Smile", "At 17"....

 

It's time the people hear the vocal queen again!

True! Most of her tv performances were slow ballad songs.

 

So I think the choice is amazing! She feels the song, this version is amazing, the orchestra classic mix is done very good.

And her vocals

 

Hope she will blow them all away!

The more people suggest any other song the more I believe TSMGO is the perfect song for her. It's really reflect what she is going through. As someone has said, it's all about her. Rene may be has gone but she's still there, stand like a rock.

Because her carreer is more than her "own" songs. That's why she is unique in the current pop industry. Like Maria Callas she interprets songs. Songs are here to be sung, lived, performed by as many artists as possible. She truly is a classic star.

"A New Day Has Come" would have been perfect for this occassion, either in its radio remix or ballad form .

 

This song speaks for itself. It means to move on and turn the page, the lyrics would totally make sense in this time. She wants to come back and she's ready, "the show must go on", right? So here's Céline's own "the show must go on": that's her song "A New Day Has Come"

 

Besides, this song has not been performed to death so it is very fresh and not worn out, it is one of her most recent worldwide success (sadly, for a song that has 14 years already) and above all, it is one of her own songs.

 

I wholeheartedly agree with the fact that people got used to see her performing in all this BIG awards just performing songs that are not of hers. Oscars. Grammys, Billboards... When was the last time she performed one of her own songs?

 

It's useless to say because apparently it is her choice, but it's so sad she never finds comfort and confidence in one of her songs to perform in these big events, despite having one of the huggest music catalogue in the industry. And yet she has to resort to a cover. (Sighs )

You know I'm not unbiased with the ANDHC album and its songs, but its just that having her singing another cover again seems too much. And ANDHC is a great song which gave her her last worldwide hit, like it or not. The meaning behind the song would completely apply for her comeback to the public scene in this awards.

 

Of course it's up to her what song she wants to perform, if she's given the choice, but singing another ultra-famous cover in front of a millionaire audience for the umpteenth time gives her little credibility as a complete artist. She's working really hard not giving her own repertoire the credit it deserves, during all these long years, that's what I say

Rest assured that she and Annie Horth will be more concerned about the last-most-fashionable-outfit-out-there she's wearing than what she's singing, unfortunately . Nobody said she has to distringuish between her personal and professional life. I said that SHE IS doing so. By picking TSMGO she is sending a message to the world that she will go on as a singer. At this point her professional life is very different than her personal life because we know she has chosen to go on professionally but what about her personal life? Nobody knows. Maybe she will never be able to move on. Maybe she will get married in 5 years from now. We don't have any statement about it... We only have Celine choosing TSMGO over any other song.

 

There is something I don't like about your post. This is you saying Celine should pay tribute to Rene who built her career around her hits and not TSMGO. This is extremely judgemental and harsh. To imply Celine she is not properly paying tribute to Rene. I am wondering if some of you would have the nerve to say that kind of stuff to her face.

Ironically this fashion show has more live singing than any of her concerts since the days of The Colour Of My Love Tour.

Someday I would love to see ANDHC ballad version with full orchestra too. Hands down my favorite song of hers. However I am pleased with TSMGO for this occasion, loved it live in Vegas! She was so powerful and confident when I saw her. I Trust her decision on this one, if that's what she feels good about singing now then I am 100% supportive.

I'm very happy with this choice of music, if it was a few years ago I would say that was wrong with the choice, more today, I think she hit the choice, the music will really shake the public and besides passing a positive message and that it will continue, perfect for that moment when she is going through.

So I hope that his team did not disappoint, with some things, I hope they release the video on their official YouTube page and not be careless with it.

The Show Must Go On is a brilliant choice in my opinion. It's an incredible moment her Vegas show--it pinned me to my seat--literally took my breath away.

 

She will be outstanding. And it says so much. Guarantee you she'll bring the house.

I can't be any happier with this choice. Just watched several performances last night and I must say I certainly hope she is every bit as crazy and expressive with her hands and movements as normal. We haven't had such a large scale performance with such celine-isms in awhile
