I agree 100%. Not every cover is a tribute. Celine is singing this song because it has tremendous emotional resonance at this point in her life.

Prince passed away. Madonna was close with Prince and had a lot of respect for him. It makes sense for her to pay tribute.

 

I think there's something kind of lovely about Madonna being part of the same show where Celine Dion is honored with the "Icon" award. It will show Madonna fans who maybe didn't respect Celine (the way that we do) that Celine is the real deal and is still relevant! (I honestly think that Madonna wishes that she could have changed the face of Las Vegas the way Celine did. She would never admit that. Thank God Rene was the genius he was! What a legacy he's left.)

 

It's fantastic that Celine is making a huge appearance like this. And I'm so glad she's not just going to present an award again. That was fine and lovely for the past couple of years but now it's time for it to be about HER again. She needs to remind the Beyonce fans and Britney fans, etc. who the real QUEEN is. Celine Dion is THE VOICE of today. Celine's a real singer and those young fans need to be schooled.

 

Additionally --

 

I've been thinking a lot about how Celine has been respected in Canada/France as an Icon for far longer than she has in the United States. Which makes sense -- since her French career is quite different than her English one. She has created more meaningful music in French and she has been singing in French for a lot longer.

 

I've been a bit concerned about Celine's English career in recent years. I just wasn't sure how Celine would be remembered. She dominated the 90s. But since returning from her break in 2002, she made the decision to not chase the charts anymore.

 

There is something so nice about Celine receiving this ICON award. Because this is for all the English speaking fans to see.

 

Her legacy is now coming into focus for me. Celine Dion changed the face of Las Vegas by taking a HUGE risk and making it THE place to perform.

 

Also, I think Celine is gaining a lot of respect from her peers and critics these days -- now that they see she is continuing on without Rene by her side. That shows a lot of strength that those folks maybe didn't think she had within her. We've known Celine is a strong, fierce woman -- but now the world is seeing it too. And it was great to see that she is one of the most respected women in the world. It makes me more proud than ever to be such a devoted fan.

 

In movies/screenplays -- the "hero" cannot truly claim his/her destiny without their mentor dying. The mentor cannot complete the journey with the hero. Now that Rene is gone, Celine is finally being crowned an Icon.

 

So incredibly happy for her and so happy that her legacy in English speaking areas is still rising and strong. :)

Madonna certainly has NO talent as a singer FACT! Now she can put on all the Halloween costumes she likes, but it definable doesn't amount to talent. Artisry, sure, but as far as talent goes, I don't think there is any. I don't think people are "worried" about Madonna, I think they are concerned with how much publicity Celine gets from this performance. With acts such as Rihanna,Ariana,Demi,Justin,Britney,Madonna etc. performing, she really is being overshadowed. She rarely gets this opportunity to perform at big events and to be outshined by teeny boppers, trash, strippers and the crypt keeper is extremely upsetting.

Personally, I think even with these 🚮 performers, Céline will shine brightly anyways. She'll get her moment, her award, her time to shine.

Celine and Madonna are my all time favorite singer. Ok Madonna doesnt have the voice of Celine so what?? But I prefer much much much more the artistry of Madonna over Celine singing the same setlist since 1992.
